During this *third* leg of our 1600 nautical mile MAIDEN VOYAGE we're tasked with a major stressor: taking (both) masts down on our 1984 Pearson 530 Ketch in order to enter the Erie Canal. We are heading east to our homeport (Sea Bright, New Jersey), where we spent our last sheckles on a seasonal slip. Will synchronicity be on our side OR will unexpected schedules and weather delay our plans? S...

If you take off to sail the world, do you have a proposed departure date? 2025, 2026?
@@LouisBackover good question! We were planning on spring 2025 buuuut as always, life has thrown us a curve ball. We will keep you posted as soon as we know for sure! Most likely 2026. We appreciate your patience along this wild ride!! 🤍
Big smile on my face this morning seeing a Sailing Every Day post. Abby and Max you guys are killing it, your channel will grow and grow- Yes its a perfect unison of two people who have similar ideas and a great love for each other.
@@MrFormeypi aw your comment makes me so happy! Glad we reached you :) thanks so much for watching and commenting!
I can’t wait to see more! If I can make a recommendation, lock off some cheaper Amazon faux-pro cameras on the stanchions in the cockpit, up at the bow pulpit, in the cabin, etc. Wire in USB outlets everywhere, so you can set up a camera and not worry about the battery draining, and each day swap out the memory card and load the footage onto an 2TB external drive that you use for an archive. When you need to pull B-roll, it’ll be your fountain of footage. When things suddenly happen, you can put down the big camera and still have usable footage. Also, you can get both of you in the same shot, just being real, and nobody feels like they have to be “on”. Nobody watching a sailing channel cares if you cuss a little, if your hair isn’t just right, if his beard isn’t perfect, or if the angle isn’t the most flattering. We’re here for it.
@@bravofighter yess!! I love this advice! Thanks so much for the hot tips - we really appreciate it. We’ve talked about how we need to mount cameras because “catching” key moments seems to be the hardest part. Stay tuned as we learn & evolve. Thanks for being on this journey with us 🤍🙏
I couldn't sleep, so I picked up the laptop and tuned into RUclips and yall popped up. I was glad to see a little something from you, even just a few minutes. I'm hoping you are getting the hang of editing shows so you start sending out weeklys. It's 4 am here and I was glad to have something from you to watch. I'll send in my vote! Good luck and smooth sailing.
@@craigkepchar2619 aw wow thank you so much for watching, commenting, AND taking the time to vote!! Glad we caught ya! Definitely hope to produce more frequent videos in the future :) thanks for your patience and support, Craig 🤍🙏
Alright a new video. Looking forward to it. I've also been sailing before I knew how to swim and without a life jacket. My parents were risk takers and wild.
@@robertlaird6746 that’s so cool!! I (Abby) am envious of the lifelong sailing experience. I’m at an unfair advantage! We hope to raise our future boat babies the same way. Your parents sound like legends! And you lived to tell the tale haha. Thanks for watching, Robert 🙏🤍
Awesome!! You all have my vote definitely!!

@@stevenplancich6449 good q!! We just returned back to New Jersey after cruising around New England. Thanks for watching 🙏⛵️
I think this video was filmed in the spring because of the locks opening up for the season comment. It's been a while since you posted your last video. Keep them coming.
@@robertlaird6746 you got it. These videos are from the very beginning.. May 2022! Thanks so much for watching 🤍🙏 working on it - appreciate your patience!
@@sailing.everyday Better late than never. Where are you at now? I'm planning my Cyber 48 build sometime in 2025
@@robertlaird6746 agreed!! we recently returned back to New Jersey after cruising north around New England for a few weeks. Our plans are always up in the air. Max is racing in j24 world championship event in Seattle end of Sept then we’ll be venturing to the boat show in Annapolis. Thats so exciting!! 2025 will be here before we know it 🎉
@@sailing.everyday I live about an hour and a half north of Seattle. I also used to race small boats like Naple Sabots, Lasers and Nacra catamarans as well as some larger boats but I didn't like being crew. I belong in the captains position :) I used to have a Tornado catamaran and raced in an Olympic qualifying regatta and won with four 1st and one 2nd place but I didn't have enough money or sponsors to compete in the Olympics. You need two boats and a lot of money to travel with one boat in one country why your other boat is being shipped to a different country.
@@robertlaird6746 oh wow!! We’ve never been to the PNW - super excited to check it out! Very cool. Sounds like you’ve had some awesome adventures! Aw bummer.. so close, yet so far. sailing is quite the expensive sport. My favorite is when people ask if they win anything at regattas…. Most often, just bragging rights 🤣
Great job with story telling.........
@@lindaholt7596 thanks so much!! ⛵️🤍
Just ran across your channel, think i'm gonna have to go back to the beginning. Nice to see a local on YT (i grew up right across the river from the home port). I also rode the canal, though on a bike alongside, some of the views were vaguely familiar. Fair winds (or in the case here, calm seas).
@@stewkingjr aw wow!!! We appreciate the local love so much. Haha that sounds like a great memory. Please let us know what you think if you’re able to watch from the beginning :) cheers
I've been anxiously awaiting your next video, I thought that maybe you sailed off the edge of the flat earth! I'm glad to see your still around and producing great videos. I hope the wait for the next one isn't as long. Smooth sailing to you all.

Those locks are crazy! So wild to think that they were hand dug so long ago, can't imagine the crew it took to make that happen :) Looking forward to seeing the lock ups and downs, sounds like a pretty crazy adventure!

@@MichaelEvans-b6t thank you amigo!!! ❤️🔥⛵️🎨
As a new owner of a Pearson 365 Ketch, I’d be interested in seeing how to rig and fly mizzen spinnakers and stay sails. Not that it will make my boat any faster, but it certainly looks cool.
@@nutsandbolts432 congrats and welcome to the Pearson Ketch crew!! That’s a great idea - we’d love to showcase how we fly so many sails. We’ve been piecing together this footage from 2 years ago, eventually we will catch up to real time. Planning to start shooting episodes with the story in mind first - stay tuned and thanks again for watching ⛵️🎬

You folks remind me of a couple from Ireland we had as neighbors at the marina I grew up in late 70s, in Cortez, FL. My dad called them "Hippies", but they were so cool, and became good friends to our family. They still live aboard and sail to this day in a Trimaran they built them selves in the early 90s.
