I streamed Facorio: Space Age for 24 hours!
...I did. I promise. Sadly VODs cannot be longer than 12 hours, so RUclips didn't save the replay. But fortunately I had been recording the stream the whole time! Or, uh, most of the time. I ran out of disk space just past the 19 hour mark.
Fortunately I did manage to capture the first rocket launch! Space science was a huge deal for me, not just for getting requester chests, but it was my first time building a space platform. It wouldn't be my last either - but unfortunately my second platform (dubbed Purple Haze as it was meant to carry me through the cosmos the same way the energy drink of the same name carried me through the night) is lost to ...

    Hi! I was wondering if you wouldn't mind telling me how you got the camera to move and zoom during the video? I want to make a timelapse, and I know how to make the actual timelapse using a script that takes screenshots, but I have no idea how to make the camera move around to focus on different places you're building.       No, I used a time lapse mod that took a screenshot of specific areas on specific intervals then just stitched those images together into this time lapse.

    How did you set up the lights?

      The lights next to the accumulators were displaying their current charge level. I simply set those lights to come on when their input signal was above a certain level. The combinators between them and the accumulators just converted the 'A' signal from the accumulators into a color. (That way the lights could be red, yellow, etc.) The lights on the machines were set up quite similarly. I would pick an arbitrary value to be my "green" light (usually a very high value, so that if a resource was green I could feel comfortable that, even if all smelting stopped that moment, I would have enough resource to last me for quite a while.) Anything below that would be yellow, until the red threshold. The threshold for red would usually be a little less than half of the green threshold. Then, if I ran out entirely, the lights would go magenta. As for how the lights themselves worked: I had a setup of three combinators. The yellow and green ones both outputted above the red threshold, and the green would turn off below the green threshold. Let's use an example: So, our red threshold is 100. The green threshold is 500. If we're above 100 of the item we're monitoring, the red combinator does not output, but the yellow and green combinators do. If we're below 100, the red outputs and the yellow and green combinators do not. If we're at, say, 400, we're not high enough to cause green to come on, and we're too high for red to come on, so only yellow outputs. When we're above green, let's say at 1000, things get a little trickier because both yellow and green will output. I tried to come up with a more elegant solution, but ultimately I decided to just have yellow feed into another combinator, and this only allowed yellow through if it was below the green threshold. The magenta color is in the constant combinator, because at zero the lights would just turn off since - with the way combinators work - there would technically be no signal. Since it's later in the list than the other three they get priority, so I was able to just always keep magenta on, and it would only display when no other color was being broadcast over the network.

      lowerlowerhk Not really sure what you mean by "how". All I did was set up a bunch of laser turrets, making sure not to place them within firing range of the spawners. It was really just for fun and doesn't provide any real benefit, aside from absorbing a bit of pollution.

      ^_^ Well thanks. The lights near the accumulators were just showing charge levels - I was having power issues the whole time (because I challenged myself not to build on the mainland unless absolutely necessary). Whenever they hit red (30%) I had my furnaces rigged to shut off so I could at least use my lasers through the night. The lights on the furnace were monitoring my ore levels, so I knew when I was starting to run low and needed a new outpost. Green was... Ah it's been a while, but I think >150K. Yellow was between 150K and 80K, while red was below 80K. (And if I ran out, it turned pink.) The rest of the lights were also level monitors of varying amounts, so if I started running low on oil, green circuits, or what have you, I would know about it.

      Kenkojuko MC Let me ask this: You're modding 1.7.something, right? If so, you had to run gradlew. Did you run setupDecompWorkspace? If you didn't, then while you'll be able to see that the files are /there/, you won't be able to actually open them and look at the source. (Also, before messing around with gradle stuff, remember that recreating your workspace will do just that: Recreate it. Meaning all of the files that you've created will be deleted. So, before you mess around with it, backup your source to somewhere safe, like your desktop or something like that.)

      Are you sure you did /decomp/ workspace? There's more than one setup*something*Workspace parameter that gradlew will take. And what's more, it doesn't tell you to do setupDecompWorkspace in the read me file that comes with Forge. (Or at least it didn't as of ~2 months ago.) If you only do the steps that are (were?) in the read me, then you'll get that "no source attached" error.

      How do you mean? If you want to, say, shoot fireballs or make snowmen or something like that, then I don't think so. I could be wrong, but I don't remember any function like that. If you just want to make something like a piece of paper mine stone though, there might be a way to do that.

      ChaosBeing I think it would be as you first said. If I make an item, like a gun or any other item that could act as a bow, but I want to attack by shooting instead of hitting. That would also disable the ability to destroy blocks by left-clicking.

      No, sorry. If there were such a way, then there are quite a few things, both modded and vanilla, that would use them. Potions, food, splash potions, bows, just some examples from vanilla minecraft of things that you need to right-click in order to use. (There are probably hundreds of examples within the modding community, so I won't bother getting into that.) There /may/ be a way to disable block breaking if you really wanted to with NBT data in the future. I know you can set something like that up in the snapshots out now, but since there isn't a forge version out for the snapshots (for obvious reasons) I can't say for certain. And even then, it would be quite a ways off.

    Really really. Vista crashed on a daily bases, never got around to 7, and 8... I mean, damn, look at it. I'll probably either have to move on to 7 or switch to Linux/Mac at some point in the near future, but XP has been fine so far. I haven't found anything I can do on the newest Windows 8 computer (sitting three feet behind me) that my windows XP can't do.

    Hmm, that sounds odd. The best I can tell you to do is to print out a stacktrace so you can see what methods are calling what methods and why. To do your own stacktrace (and one that doesn't stop minecraft) do for (StackTraceElement e : Thread.currentThread().getStackTrace()) { System.out.println(e); }

    Ah, ok, gotcha gotcha. Then rather than a bucket, you just need to look at the bottle. For the most part all you'll need to do is make a new water bottle that extends the food class.

    Well that depends. If you mean you want a bucket, that's easy enough. I think there's even a bucket event you can hook in to, though I don't have the code in front of me. If you want a bucket that can place liquids, then just look at the water/lava bucket, and it should be apparent. However, if you want help with custom liquids, or with a bukkit script, you've got the wrong guy.

    Well, you're certainly not wrong, but just know going in that if you edit any preexisting files (A.K.A. "Vanilla files") that your mod will most likely be incompatible with most other mods. Maybe if you sent me a PM with a more detailed description of what you're trying to achieve, I might be able to figure out a workaround. Otherwise, it sounds like you're on the right track, just keep what I said at the top of this comment in mind.

    Thanks, I thought the same. Actually I want to check the number of achievemnets and I think I have found the place, where achievements trigger: net.minecraft.stats.Achievement;("Adds achievement on the internal list..."). But I'm still new to programming, I understand what I should do: after it registers the achievement I should add one to an int(maybe?) that stores the number of achievements done, then check for that number. rrriight? :D

    Hmm, that's a pretty interesting question. I don't know of any built-in way to tell if an achievement has been triggered or not. Granted, there must be /some/ way, or else minecraft itself wouldn't know what achievements you did or didn't have. My suggestion would be to try and find the part of minecraft that renders the achievements and must know what is or isn't triggered, or if you're making your own achievement, to just put a boolean in your mod that triggers with the achievement.

    Don't worry, it's easy enough. Just check for water when you right click (check out the bucket or bottle's code if you're not sure how to do that) and, rather than just giving them the item, do a Math.Random 10 to 100. If less than 10, give them the item, if not, do nothing.

    lol Well you're in luck as most of this already exists. You just have to make your item extend ItemFood. (I think that's what it's called, but if not just check potions to see what they extend.) If you set it up the same way potions are set up, you should be good to go.
