    Let’s say I get rejected by QB, can I still apply for ED for Columbia? And let’s say I rank Columbia as number 1 but they reject me, can I still apply for it for regular decision?

    • @samanthainez2596
      @samanthainez2596 4 года назад

      If you aren’t chosen as a finalist in October for QB you can still apply ED for Columbia. However, by the time you find out whether you match in December, it’d be too late to apply ED at that point given that ED results come out about 2 weeks later. And to answer your second question, yes! If you don’t get matched during ED you can push your QB application to the regular decision round and 100% still get in.

    thank you so much this gave me so much hope! do you think that admissions can also work backwards of the way it did for you with really good standardized tests and not being in the top 10% of your class?

    • @samanthainez2596
      @samanthainez2596 4 года назад

      great question. most of these schools take a holistic approach when reviewing applications so I’m sure it can work backwards as long as the rest of your application is strong. it is important to consider the fact that GPA provides a more consistent illustration of yourself as a student however, if your GPA is still within the 3.5+ range and you’re just not in the top 10% of your class you shouldn’t have much to worry about.

    • @samanthainez2596
      @samanthainez2596 4 года назад

      I truly believe colleges will be entirely more lenient with SAT scores for this application season. It’s completely understandable why many students have been unable to take these standardized exams. Just work on strengthening the other aspects of your application!!

    thank you so much for making this video. i’m only a freshman in high school, but my dream school is columbia! everyone’s stats are so intimidating but i think when you talk about your extra curricular’s and aps you make it all sound less impossible. i’m only taking one honors class this year because of the way my school is, but i’m also taking spanish II & III along with some advanced alg 1 class! i would’ve taken geometry but i didn’t take an advanced math class in the seventh grade lmao. i’m also doing debate and a community service club.. am i off to a decent start? i’m really unsure whether i am or not

      you’re so welcome ! you’re off to a great start. being a freshman in hs already concerned about college applications displays your determination to get into Columbia. you still have a couple years to go though, so don’t stress yourself out too much! the only advice I’d give is to start studying for your PSAT/SATs (or ACT if that’s more your speed). the more you’re familiar with the format of the test, the easier it is to get a good score. wishing you the best of luck!

    • @samanthainez2596
      @samanthainez2596 4 года назад

      the sat was definitely something I struggled with as well haha. i relied heavily on khan academy’s personalized SAT prep- it personalizes questions for you to practice everyday based on your past psat/sat scores as well as allows you to construct a schedule for doing those practice questions + practice exams. i took the sat three times; for the second time I focused on improving my math score by strictly studying sat math in the two months leading up to the exam and for the third time I focused on improving my reading score by doing the same but for reading. all in all, practice is key !!!! go back and review your mistakes as well. make believe you’re teaching someone how to complete the math questions you’re working on. practice completing the reading section in intervals (13 minutes for each passage ideally). also, invest in a wristwatch that has a silent stopwatch (this helped me manage my time well for the reading section). hope this helped!!
