      They're actually a lot less radioactive than even I thought. But x-rays involve blasting people with radiation and even that sits well below the maximum annual dose of radiation, so it's just people having a degree of hysteria when radiation is involved.

    Comment on the beryllium copper tools. They were not "anti spark" nor used to prevent explosions. The beryllium alloy will spark like most any metal. They were used to work around large magnets. We used them in the military when working around radars. The magnetrons and amplitrons used in radar transmitters have very strong magnets and will pull a ferris tools out of your hand. Beryllium alloy tools are non-ferris which makes them not attracted to magnets and magnetic fields.

    I have a tablesaw with a Wisconsin gasoline motor. Can't put an exact date on it since the manufacture went out of business in the 60's. I completely restored it several years ago including a complete overhaul on the motor. The motor was made between '42 amd '57. I have a sales brochure that shows an earlier saw with a smaller motor which was discontinued in '41. Would like to sell it.

    Not true at all. There's the Mandarin line, the Chinese Yellow line, many vases are swung, there is breading, cut glass with a cut glass edge. He's speaking only of Fenton that has a crimped edge and doesn't even know the correct terminology for it. Very misleading.

    I have a Case Knife I recieved from my grandfather in 1967. I believe it is pre WW2, maybe 100 years old. It's a larger pocket knife, than the current smaller Case knives. It has a brown bone handle, three blades, short blade has a flat screw driver tip and a old style can opener. How do I find out its age?

    • @BackPorchAntiques
      @BackPorchAntiques 8 дней назад

      It is awesome that you have that piece of history. I'd start with a Google image search. If that didn't work, I'd search out large case knives and see if I could find something with a similar look. Also, check the tang stamp and compare it for age.

      Yeah, that's one way to do it. As long as it's not in the weather, it shouldn't need too much of an oil coating. If you run it on the front of a car, I'd oil it down after every hard rain.

      I'd have to see it, but it sounds like a case select version. They made a Christmas tree coloring in that series that was absolutely gorgeous. Some of the earlier types of those handles would "off-gas" destroying the handles and other knives around it. You may want to give that a quick search. Thanks for watching.

    I’ve been hunting uranium glass for about 12 years. Found some great pieces and sold some I regret selling because I’ll probably never find them again regardless of the price. There were Vaseline glass pieces made that have uranium in them even in the late 1800s. Getting harder and harder to find the really old and rare pieces, seems like people who are buying them are keeping them nowadays and not selling them. I have over 100 uranium glass pieces currently and I’m no longer selling any of mine either. When I first started hunting it was so much cheaper and easier to find them then it is now. I believe I missed my era for buying nice pieces for much cheaper then they are now. I no longer buy common pieces though and only hard to find pieces.

    If you start collecting the Tupperware cannister sets, check the lids carefully. I received a set for a shower gift back in the 80s and as it aged, the lids would crack when I pushed down on them. (I did not store them in the attic and I did not push down hard.)

    Granite ware enamel. Black and white, red and white a couple other variations. Most of this stuff was everyday use for middle class folks.. pieces in top condition not too easy to find any more. Many variations made by lots of different companies. I started buying and using it 20 plus years ago. Stuff is damn near bulletproof USA made Even 50 yr old examples way better than modern Chinese junk! One subtle way to buy American!!
