Brilliant mess of a movie. Title song and "Look of Love" are both great...
The film's a mess, but by jingo I do love it so and it has a soundtrack to die for.
I saw this movie in real time, and it made no sense then or now. I don't care. I love the whole movie and the soundtrack.
Years ago when I bought this album I was so disappointed that this rendition of the theme song was not on it.

This is a really fun song after Woody Allen explodes and kills everyone they all go up to heaven except Woody he's pushed down to hell and this song was a perfect way to end the movie.

The song, with the vocals or without was by far the best part of this movie. The rest of the movie was a disgrace. I'm sure Ian Flemming never would have sold the rights to the title if he had known it would be turned into a farce.
I believe Fleming was dead by the time this was made, so he had little input. Carrying your idea further, what would Fleming have made of the preposterous special effects and stunt driven schlock now being trotted out? You couldn't follow these plots with GPS!
I saw the movie when it came out and this 8 year old loved it! I look it as an adult and say to myself what was I thinking🤷🏻♂️
The plan was to film it as a proper bond film with Richard Burton as bond but his demands where off the scale ,,,they approached Michael Caine who turned it down because Sean was his mate ,,,,so they came up with this rubbish,,,,they could have done it as a straight thriller with Niven who although a bit older always kept in great shape ,,,,
It’s not “rubbish.” They considered doing something along the lines of what you’re saying, but producer Charles K. Feldman thought if he did that, it would just be compared to EON Bond films, so he instead made the spoof to end all spy spoofs.
Very true... But can you imagine Burton or Caine as Bond ? 😉🇬🇧 I certainly can ,,,,
@@brianallsopp69 Burton did the The Spy who came in from the cold, and Caine did the Harry Palmer films.
They could have got another actor and done it as a proper Bond film Rod Taylor springs to mind ,,,,

I remember this while the end credits were rolling. They probably couldn't secure the rights from the artist to release his vocal performance for inclusion on the soundtrack album.

Should have stayed lost
Who are you to judge? This track perfectly fits the fun, energetic, chaotic vibe of the film, so for it to “have stayed lost” would’ve been a travesty.

In reality, Redway CAN sing. He just sang off key with this song for comedic effect. Also some sources say the vocal version was recorded FIRST! But afterwards Burt Bacharach and Hal David were not happy with the final product, so Redway's vocal was removie and replaced with Herb Alpert's magnificent trumpet.
