The humor worked for MWC because it was supposed to be a dysfunctional family. If a real family said those things to each other, you'd think they hated each other. But underneath the hatred, MWC had a heart. They really loved each other. And inspiring irreverent humor is great, in theory but writers seem tragically devoid of originality thus instead of more irreverent humor you get the exact same thing on shows it doesn't work for. Namely, they all insult each other all the time. But they were big hits so what do I know? Examples, Will and Grace, Big Bang Theory and eventually, That 70's Show. It just seems negative to me. It worked for MWC because there's a rhythm for one. Timing. And it seemed just outrageous more than negative because it worked for the theme of the show. That 70's Show started out fine but eventually they started doing the same thing. It's lazy and uneffective. BB Theory is a show designed for me. I LOVE the premise. I'm a science nerd who talks about the academic process and peer review more than I should. But it just failed in execution in my opinion. Great idea, bad show. In my opinion. But if you like it, cool. Different strokes and all.
