@@tarekcat1 Having the US as the good guys isn’t the scandalous part. What’s scandalous is that many of America’s current/recent enemies, both irl and in the video games based on real life, were former US allies, who the US made an alliance with even though many of them were evil people. Noriega’s just one example. Saddam and Ghadafi were two villains the US never had a problem fostering longterm working partnerships with, until they eventually stepped out of line; it was only then that the US suddenly had a problem with all the terrible things their former allies were doing that the US was previously willing to ignore. The Taliban descends from the Mujahideen, and the US never had a problem arming and funding religious extremists when they were at war with the Soviets and the Soviet’s puppet government in Afghanistan. The problem with “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” is that the conventional wisdom isn’t so trustworthy when your new friend is also another group of genuinely terrible people, since you might just soon find yourself having to go to war in Panama, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya just to eliminate your “friend.”
