Having a 106 degree fever isn't just serious it is life threatening. It is a condition called Hyperpyrexia and if left untreated can cause organ damage and death. The child would be suffering from loss of consciousness, rapid shallow breathing, dry, hot, and red skin, weak fast pulse, widened pupils, and seizures as his brain is literally cooking inside his skull. There is no way that the mom would simply pick up a child with such a high fever and take him home because he would be admitted into the hospital for at least a few days to make sure no permanent damage has occurred from his condition. While the flu can be treated at home the child was left unattended for a period of time while his mother conducted an affair and his father was away on business so there is no telling how long the child was suffering from the condition or what damage he suffered due to the neglect. The "mom friend" who found the child and took him to the hospital would have 100% told the doctors that he was abandoned by a parent that knew he was sick and left him anyway so I highly doubt he would have been released into her custody. Doctors, nurses, and teachers are all mandatory reporters of suspected child abuse and neglect (in the US) so a case with CPS would have been initiated whether OP called them or not. If you are going to write a story please at least make the details realistic!

Okay, in the first story the OP is dumber than the poor woman sending the packages. If someone sends a package to you house or apartment, you don't have to pay for it if you didn't order it.
