Before Zep, Jimmy Page wanted to reform The Yardbirds but with Steve Marriott on vocals. I'd say he more or less got what he wanted.

The Yardbird's lyrics are terrible.

This is amazing James using a bow on this version I thought he only did it with zep

not overly different to what Zep did a few months later in terms of phrasing & timing.

This is my first exposure to Yardbirds handling this tune. I heard Led Zeppelin perform it in January 1969, as the warm-up band to Vanilla Fudge. Fascinating.
