@@martywalsh4427his Dad did the right thing for his career (ultimately Jeffs..). Emil Richards, Hal Blaine, Rich Lepore, Al Lepak, and the Porcaro's were all from the Hartford-Springfield area...even Kenny Aronoff is right up the road in the Berks.
yes Joe saw LA as the future. I worked with Mike quite a bit and of course Jeff. The first time I played with Jeff I was 19 he was 17 and the groove with us was immediate. We played a few more times then Jeff blew up and I next saw him and Mike on the first hit I played on Love Pains by Yvonne Elliman.
@@martywalsh4427 Oh wow Yvonne...from the theatre world and the big hit from SNF... LA must have been such a dynamic place in the 60s and 70s...and quite frankly affordable. Perfect weather too..

You should get the latest Robyn Flans book called Moments In Time. A collection of people's memories of Jeff. I'm on page 161 :) It says so much about who he was.

Agreed such a great version we were able to do.
So some studio musicians have likely played solos that WOULD be considered one of the all-time great solos, but they just got ignored for whatever reason. Insane to think.

He did that during the "Push Back the Walls" sessions with Scott Page, etc. It's here at RUclips. It was Scotty, Lenny Castro, several others, and right before they kicked it off, he dropped a handful of Regals across the snare in front of him; the whole room cracked up! 😂

back in the 70 recording studios used metronome.but the click went out from the headphones i got in to the microphones, the the studios begun to used the" blinking light metronome"

The songs from "Roundhouse" are really some of the most amazing ever written for television. Just wonderful. Soulful. Authentic. Magical. It's a shame we never got full length recorded versions. I still have my old VHS tapes of the show and cherish them deeply.

Shakin was HUGE back in 85 as I was locked up in San Quentin as a 23 yr. old knucklehead. Couldn't WAIT until September 25, of 88 to parole and get my shaft wet with a honey that was SHAKIN'.
Gosh, I was hooked on Jeff's playing in 1978 or so with "Hold The Line" and "99." I was a mere 12 y/o back then and I knew instantly that Jeff was not your avg drummer. My drum teacher for over 8 years here in the Allentown, PA area studied for 7 years with Joe Porcaro privately. My teacher also has numerous pictures of him, Joe and Jeff together. Videos of them all and more. My teacher prefers to keep them off of the net but has shared the videos and letters, emails with the remaining Porcaro family.

Marty, I just found your channel and I appriciate your videos! Especially the tracking rec sessions. I know many yeard have passed and things arent the same but where would one go to pursue a career in producing? Im already experienced and have my own studio with 2" tape and I studied music and compose/perform. Im just located in south texas and there is NOTHING here.
