3:14 😱 Too much water 🚿 (+ hot sun but less afternoon light) , that’s why my last strawberries were sour ! 🤦🏻‍♀️ No matter I fertilized them with Kali to make them sweeter. This information is a true exclusivity! Nobody else ever mentioned that too much water make the strawberries sour. Thanks for the tip On top of that, my new planted strawberries are dying of over-watering , root rot , because the soil mix for fruit trees that I’ve used retains too much water. After I planted , I had to water to pack the soil around the roots but then it’s waterlogged. And this Japanese variety Hana - most popular for its sweetness - is super sensitive and fussy about the soil and watering : it easily dies for a yes or no as soon as you transplant it in the planter. It’s the 2nd time I fail to plant it and it dies within 3 days. So I have to redo it all over again add some more coconut coir. Initially nursery planted them in coconut coir + little bit of rice bran, coco has no nutrient , it keeps moisture but in a small pot, it also dries out fast to where the plants leaves and berries looked dehydrated when I received them - only 4h shipping - and you have to water everyday cuz you see the soil level went down at the end of the day. Must say: I’m in Vietnam Saigon and it’s 33-36°c everyday of the year. Strawberry plants get 5h of burning hot morning sun so the plants need to be able to find the water they need to resist the heat. I want the soil to drain properly but at the same time I don’t want to have to water everyday or every 2-3 days which can be a burden if I need to go on holidays for a week or 2 , I want the planter to supply enough water for 1 week or 2 so the plants never lack of water because as I said, the sun here is burning hot …we got heat waves So mixing the perfect soil mix and water enough without overwatering is a real headache in here : The monstera ferns and strawberries seem overwatered , soil is too wet but when I let the waterlogged soil dry more than a week, suddenly the monstera leaves start to wilt or turn yellow , the ferns and strawberry leaves get crispy before the soil surface even looks dry 🤦🏻‍♀️ . I don’t know if I can cut the watering for the strawberries in an attempt to obtain sweeter fruits because that’s a dangerous game to play with the sun & heat waves we deal with even tho the varieties sold here are heat resistant
