Another little jam, sync'ing these two awesome machines. The 707 is again clocking the Buchla. The occasional 'shout' is a randomly triggered 261e osc going to a bandpass filter, with some modulation. Got the TR-707 recently. I have a huge soft spot for early Chicago house, especially from mid to late 1980's. So I thought it would be nice to see how the 707 gels with the 200e with that style of beat. Here the 707 sends rim shots to the 250e to sync the Buchla. So instead of constant spinning, the steps of the 250e only advance when it gets a rimshot hit. I've also set the 250e to offset this...

The 259e mod osc again acts as the main clock (like in tune # 9). The mod osc is affected by subtle modulation which results in fluctuation and occasional glitches in the tempo. I think these make the loop sound less rigid and machine-like.

The 259e principal osc provides the the shaker & bass - yes the same osc simultaneously, this was a happy accident. The 259e mod osc sends cv around providing the main tempo. The rest of the tune builds around that. The snappy drum sound goes to Eventide Micro pitch for some pitch-shifted stereo delay. The lead "guitar" goes to Eventide Space for reverb.

The 250e creates the basis for this rhythm and the 281e pulses do the rest of the pattern, as the A/D envelopes are interacting. I really like how these rhythmic patterns emerge with the Buchla: after doing the basic patching, you don't know exactly what kind of rhythm will come out, but very often it's something nice - like I think in this case! The 281e quad function generator is sequencing the beats. Its four function generators are cycling at different rates, sending cv's to affect each other's attack and decay speeds. Each of them is then triggering the percussive sounds. This becomes the rhythm. However, in this case it ended up creating the fills quasi randomly. A generative patch, ended up sounding like living things. Camera rambles through the cable jungle. I let this one play for a while after the pictures end, so you may enjoy it a bit longer if you like.

The Buchla 200e system can do very natural and acoustic sounding percussion & groove, as you may hear 0:40 onwards. Here the woody percussive tones are done with the 259e & noise, both going through the 292e low pass gate.

Another simple melodic tune sequenced by the 250e. The 258 is one of the fattest oscillators I know. It's doing the bass line here, using both of its two oscs, the saw and pulse waves.

Having a day off today so I spent some time with the Buchla.

The Oberheim DX is syncing the Buchla 200e system. The DX is sending analogue clock signal to the 250e’s start/adv input (white cable, top left) which puts it in sync.
