Interesting how at different venues there are differing levels of audience sing-a-long! The one I was at you could hardly hear Brandon for everyone else singing it! I'm also surprised that so many people know it and like it enough to sing with him, afterall it's not a new song, it hasn't exactly been a big hit in the last 30 years or more. But it is a fantastic song by the late Ewan MacColl, father of Kirsty.
