5 Advantages of Optical Level Sensors over Float Switches | SST Sensing
Hi, I’m Michael from SST Sensing and I want to talk about our optical liquid level switches, and the benefits of our sensors over conventional float switches.
Our sensors are used all over the world and a wide range of applications.
From run-dry pump protection, leak detection and high and low alarm systems.
They are used to protect vital machinery, to detect level of fluids in vehicles and also to tell when there is liquid where it shouldn’t be.
Our sensors have many benefits over conventional float switches and I’m going to discuss five of those today.
One, our sensors are small, so only the sensor tip has to be in the process, making it ideal for applications where space is at a premium or...

Hi, I’m Paddy Shannon. Technical Director here at SST Sensing. Today I’m just going to do a quick demonstration of our Optical Liquid Level Sensor and just to show you how versatile they are. Now, traditionally when you want to measure or detect liquid, and that’s what these sensors do, they detect whether a sensor is air or a liquid. The traditional technology is a float switch. Now a float sw...

This is an Optomax Liquid Sensor You know, electronics and water don’t mix, so it’s sometimes difficult to make a liquid sensor. Because you don’t want to oxidise or damage or flood your electronics. But this a really nice solid-state sensor and its completely enclosed in plastic and it works very well. It’s very simple, you just power it, from 4.5 up to 15 Volts and then the output is just low...

    Can the sensor detect liquid without coming in intact with it? Does the device have a reading gauge or meter to detect deviations?

    • @SSTSensing
      @SSTSensing 2 года назад

      Hello Mr Duru, Thank you for your question and for watching the video. The sensor can only detect the presence of a liquid if the medium physically touches the tip of the sensor. Approximately 1mm of liquid is required to allow the sensor to switch. Please see this video for the animated explanation of the measurement principle: ruclips.net/video/PuRf3mT9jgo/видео.html The sensors are for the presence/absence of liquid. Similar to a switch, this gives a high/low output. There are a variety of different electrical outputs available depending on the application and interface requirements. I would suggest reviewing our popular Optomax Digital sensors to see the range of options: www.sstsensing.com/product/optomax-digital-range-of-liquid-level-switches-2/

      Hi, If the supply voltage is between 4.5-15.4VDC then our Optomax Digital: (sstsensing.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/DS0032rev16_LLDigital.pdf) range would be a good choice. You would want a LOW IN AIR version. This will allow for a close to supply voltage output when in contact with liquid and 0V when in air. Examples of this would be LLC510D3L, LLC210D3LSH or LLC710D3LSH. All of these versions can be sampled on Digikey and Mouser. Please note if the supply voltage is not suitable or you have other questions regarding suitability then please send to technical@sstsensing.com and our engineers will assist directly. Hope this helps! SST

      Hi David, Great question! - Our sensors are digital and contain a microcontroller. The software inside is designed to counter various environmental conditions and intelligently switch. However, there are limits to conditions such as high humidity. If condensation is allowed and forms a drip on the sensor then it will be detected as it is liquid. Our recommendation is to test a standard sensor in the environmental conditions of the application. If the sensor gives false positives in the high humidity conditions then contact technical@sstsensing.com - there is a possibility to try a different software version which could operate better under the humidity conditions.
