MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE MEETING WITH A LANDSCAPE DESIGNER OR CONTRACTOR
These aphids were on my pepper plants, and Barbados cherry trees. Best way was to use high pressure water and hosed them off.
Can the soil in potted plants be reused say the following season after a plant with sooty mold previously lived in the pot? Perhaps the soil can be hydrogen peroxide flushed?
I have seen no signs of aphids on my pepper plants but they're infested with sooty mold. I sprayed a mild soapy water solution on the plants and gently wiped the mold off of the leaves reapplied the soapy water solution and then rinsed. I was told to never water the leaves of the pepper plants, however I think after an aphid infestation or occasionally I will spray with mild soapy water and rinse.
Thanks my Crape Myrtle’s are catching hell the last two years.
You are welcome @BigJohnson1566 Thank you for the comment! What state do you live in? Hope our video helps you alleviate your sooty mold problem. Crape Myrtles are highly susceptible to sooty mold. You can also use horticultural oil in lieu of the soapy water if it’s especially bad. Just google “Horticultural oil bonide” to find and purchase Spray in the early evening after the plant is no longer in direct sunlight. Just like tanning oil, neem and horticultural oil can exaggerate the effects of the sun and you run the risk of sun burning the leaves if you apply in full sun. Depending on the severity of the infestation, repeat applications may need to be made every two weeks or so. Always follow the directions when using any pesticide.
Thank you for this. Can it grow on grass? If so, can pets drag it in the house?
Thank you for the great question! Yes, sooty mold can grow on grass. Sooty mold on grass is indicative of overwatering Yes, pets can drag in home, though, do not foresee this becoming a problem for any indoor plants you may have as the inside of a home is generally dry. Sooty mold needs constant moisture or humidity to survive
And you are welcome. Thank you for your comment, @FRAILT :)
Chinese Lantern flies also cause sooty mold..and there are alot of then in Va
Interesting Thank you for the fun fact, @FRAILT!
I'm thinking ants are causing it also because I thoroughly inspected my plants and found no signs of aphids but found ants here and there on my plants.
I think he meant the crane rental was worth the $2,500
Exactly Thank you for the comment and clarification!
Was the cost $20,000 or $2500? The video says both.
Thank you for the comment! Project total was about $25,000. Crane rental was $2,500
Wow feel like aphids are ruining my life
aphids have been found to ruin many lives…. #plantlivesmatter
Great video!
Thank you! :)
Would love for shaded patio. Where to purchase!
Aki Nursery in Irvine, CA, located at 6900 Alton Parkway, Irvine, CA 92618
Are these native to the United States?
EXCELLENT QUESTION! Thank you! No they are not, BUT of my favorite native groundcovers in California (thank you for the new vid idea by the way!) include: Fragaria californica (Wild strawberry) Arctostaphylos 'Emerald Carpet' (Carpet Manzanita) Agrotis pallens (Native Bentgrass = Great & Handles foot traffic lawn alternative)
Hi, can this be planted in south Florida hardiness zone?
Thank you for your second comment and question!!! :) Do not know.... One concern would have is excessive humidity and constant rain... the number one killer of this guy is overwatering Would suggest going to a small family owned nursery in your area and ask either a senior employee or the owner themselves what they recommend
Great video. 1. Won't the excess water affect the plant in one of two ways? Either by washing off the first solution at the roots or reintroducing the "washed off aphids and the mold back to the roots through the drip line? 2. What are your thoughts on neem oil regarding the same overall issue of small insects including white flies, mily bugs, etc? Thanks
Thank you for your comment and questions 1. No, excess water from applying the soapy water will not wash off the first systematic insecticide solution. Do not excessively wash off the soapy water. By excessive I mean spraying the soapy water off more than 30 seconds to a minute 2. Would use neem oil in conjunction with the systematice insecticide. The neem oil can serve as a substitute for the soapy water foliar application
Thanks great video..appreciate it
Thank you for the comment!
Thank you for videos. We are in need of landscaping and had company quote us with some turf, pavers and DG. But trying to cut costs and figure if DG best or something else just like some river rock instead? Do you offer some design help in OC area? We are in Anaheim Hills area.
Hi OCDrummer74, Apologize about this very late and delayed response… if you’re still looking for a landscaper, you can book an appointment at the following link or give us a call at 949-397-5896. Thank you for your comment and interest meetings.hubspot.com/oscar-giron
@@meetyourplant6437 Oh by this time we already found another landscaper but thank you for at least replying
@@OCDrummer74 ok, great, happy you were able to find another landscaper to help you out :) You're welcome~Thank you for your inquiry and video comment
did you use the 9 inch or 12 inch lights on the steps?
Apologies for the delayed response... Here are the answers to the questions you had: 1) Each floating step was about 4' deep and 8' long. When creating steps, do not make it less than 3" thick and no more than 5" thick. Forgot how thick we made these steps. The thickness of each step depends on the height difference between the beginning of the step path and the end of the step path. Consult with your contractor how thick each step should be. 2) Step lights were the 12" ones. Model numbers for each light we used: Path Light Model #1050-A Directional Light Model #1140-A Flood Light Model #1240-A Step Light Model # 1411-12 Do let us know if you have any other questions and thank you for commenting!
You rock Victor! Thank you! Beautiful job!
Wow . Won’t that kill the plants ? Do you have a recipe for someone who doesn’t have a hose end sprayer ?
Thank you for the great questions! Neither of these applications will kill the plants so long as you follow the instructions in the video and those found on the Bonide systemic insecticide label. Would mix about 1 cup of laundry detergent per 5 gallon of water for the foliar application. When you purchase Bonide Systemic Insecticide container, the label will provide instructions on how much to mix with water.
By the way, did include links to the Hose Mixture Sprayer End, the bonide liquid, and the Hose Nozzle Attachment, in the description.
Hi what are the purple flowers on both sides
Purple Scaveola species! plants.rogersgardens.com/12290002/Plant/28726/Purple_Haze_Fan_Flower/
Are Scaevola perennial for you? We use them as an annual and are lucky if they last halfway through the hot, humid summers of the southeast
Thank you for the question! Yes, scaveola are perennial here in Coastal Orange County, CA.
Will give this a try
Let us know the results and thank you for the comment!
9,000 dollars for an olive tree? Dang that’s a lot. I got a weeping willow installed for free because we did it ourselves before it got too big.
Nice! How tall was your Willow Tree when you installed it?
Maybe a little over 6 feet so nothing too big
hey, that’s still a good sized tree to plant. Takes a lotta effort and sweat to plant trees regardless of size so kudos to you by the way, try out these agriform tablets. we started using them on our installs back in january of this year and have been really pleased with how well our plants have reacted to them. has really helped our plants grow fast and nicely! not sure where you’re located so would recommend doing a bit of research to make sure it’s alright to install these tablets in areas that receive extended periods of freezing temps www.amazon.com/Everris-90026-Agriform-Planting-Tablets/dp/B008JSOOXO
also thank you for commenting on the vid! much appreciated
Yea, I just love seeing all the different cool flowers and trees in your channel
Beautiful plant...Unfortunately, the bunnies completely ate mine and that yarrow too. 😢
Oh no! hmm.... a few of bunny resistant plants recommend include: 1) Lantana camara 'Patriot Petites Rainbow' (this is actually a dwarf variety that not many people know about. Recently discovered it, and you'll get the beauty of lantana without the hassle of it growing too large 2) Salvia 'Roman Red' is an excellent smaller sized Salvia that bunnies will not eat 3) Geranium spp. - great groundcover. Cut back once a year in January or February (if you're in Orange County, CA)
looks fab! I can't seem to get the PDF for the plant list but is that an Olive tree? Stunning!
Hi Tatiana, Just included link in description. Here it is, though! And yes, you are correct! We installed a large beautiful olive tree :) drive.google.com/file/d/1EZarUChp2OKVOlksc9x4C0RFzRX7B5-W/view?usp=sharing

that’s pretty cool!

Beautiful!
Thank you so much for your comment :) Apologies for the late reply. Hope you found this video helpful!
how do you bid a job like this? I feel like bidding would be the hardest part! Please let me know! Also... SUBSCRIBED!
That is a great question! And apologies for the very late response. What would you like to know about the bidding process? We typically bid these projects out based on square feet and linear feet of materials. Thank you for asking this question as it now gives me a new video idea! :)
Hi! Thanks for sharing! What zone are you in? I'm in Southern California, inland empire and it would be nice to see more flowers that are native and drought tolerant. Thank you!
Hi Veronica! Thank you for the great question :) Zone 24 is where am located. Having said that, have done several designs in the IE. Will definitely create a video depicting some of my favorite and proven flowering plants that have used in those designs that will help you with your native/drought-tolerant plant choices :) Would like to mention that I do not use zones as they are limiting and cause people to miss out on fantastic plants they could otherwise grow due to their microclimate, unfortunately :( Before reading on, here is the short version of what I explain in detail in the long version below: Short Version of Why Do Not Use Zones: Rather than using zones as a guideline for planting decisions, find out what temperature range the plant you are considering for your yard can survive within, and what kind of environment it naturally grows in. Then determine whether your yard actually fits that temperature range or not :) Long Version of Why Do Not Use Zones: Zones cause people to rule out plants that can actually grow in their yards because our yards possibly contain microclimates that do not fall under the "zone" they are located in. For instance, planters near houses can sometimes create protected environments where plants that normally would not grow in the "planting zone" actually survive. Those protected environments help shield plants from extreme heat, cold snaps, high winds, and other weather elements. The way recommend picking plants is determining how hot and cold temperatures reach in your actual yard or neighborhood. Then, based on those temperatures, you can decide whether a plant can thrive within that temperature range. Let us say, for example, that you are able to grow a Cordyline fruticosa because you actually live on a heat island caused by asphalt roads, concrete, or large stones. Cordyline fruticosa tend to die when temperatures dip below 55 degrees. The heat island you live on provides warmer temperatures than the neighborhoods surrounding your home, thus limiting days that reach 55 degrees or below. Since you live on a heat island that rarely gets below 55 degrees, then you can plant Cordyline fruticosa in your yard whereas your neighbor 3 miles down the street cannot because their microclimate is 10 degrees colder than yours. Rather than using zones as a guideline for planting decisions, find out what temperature range the plant you are considering for your yard can survive within, and what kind of environment it naturally grows in. Then determine whether your yard actually fits that temperature range or not :)
Hope this helps :)
the driveway looks like marble!! So cool
Yes, you’re right! It does look like marble! Thank you for pointing that out :) Glad you enjoyed this landscape 😃
This is so nice!
Thanks!!!! :) Really enjoyed this making this design and seeing it come to life 😃
That’s not an unreasonable cost for such a beautiful project !
Agreed :)
My roommate keeps saying she’s going to start a garden, I’m gojngn to send her thing as a nudge
Wonderful! Hope she finds my video useful and encouraging for her to start gardening :)
Drought because I don’t water them, not because it’s not raining lol
Lol I am guilty of not watering my plants, too 😅
Oh no used to eat these, not the other ones
Ahhh, got it. Yes, the leaves on Salvia are generally edible. Have personally never tried them, though. How do they taste?
I used to eat plants that looked like that, they were super sweet
Really? Which plant did you used to eat?
These are beautiful!
Thank you. Really enjoyed designing this landscape. It was one of my favorites :)
Nice!
Thanks!
Super good info thank u for the video
Thank you! Happy the video helped you :)
Wow those flowers are amazing! Great job!
Thanks so much 😊
Do you have any plants on your property?
Yes, primarily cacti and succulents. Am a cacti & succulent collector 😁
Great landscaping job!
Thank youuuuu :)
is tha tedible?
Thank you for your question! The leaves are edible, however, wouldn’t recommend eating as it is does not have a great taste according to my research :) Personally, have never tasted the leaves myself. The best salvia for cooking and eating is Salvia officinalis!
Wow the landscape design is beautiful.
Thank you :) stay tuned! More beautiful plant design videos to come with plant names to help you with your own design and landscape!!! :)
They look amazing!
Thank you for your compliment! Just posted a new video with some more great plants :)
I will sub as soon as You Tube allows me ("You have too many subscriptions for the number of subscribers you have.") ???
Thank you :) Hopefully RUclips will allow you to subscribe!
Beautiful! Are any of these toxic to dogs or cats?
Thank you for the great question! This plant is non-toxic to your feline and doggie best friends :)
Beautiful design!
Thank you, Roxanne! As I said above, just posted a new video with some more beautiful plants for you to try out in your landscape :)
I love salvia I’m stealing that design, beautifully done ✅
Yaaaaay :) Thank you for the compliment and hope you have a wonderful time designing with these plants :) A few other plants I usually use with Salvia Mystic Spires include Leucospermum ‘High Gold,’ Leucadendron ‘Safari Sunset,’ and one of my favorite coastal rosemaries, Westringia rosmariniformis 'Wynyabbie Highlights.’
Plant Otaku!
Not sure what this is but I’ll look it up and plant it!!!
