    These aphids were on my pepper plants, and Barbados cherry trees. Best way was to use high pressure water and hosed them off.

    Can the soil in potted plants be reused say the following season after a plant with sooty mold previously lived in the pot? Perhaps the soil can be hydrogen peroxide flushed?

  • @brianjohnston4207
    @brianjohnston4207 2 месяца назад

    I have seen no signs of aphids on my pepper plants but they're infested with sooty mold. I sprayed a mild soapy water solution on the plants and gently wiped the mold off of the leaves reapplied the soapy water solution and then rinsed. I was told to never water the leaves of the pepper plants, however I think after an aphid infestation or occasionally I will spray with mild soapy water and rinse.

      You are welcome @BigJohnson1566 Thank you for the comment! What state do you live in? Hope our video helps you alleviate your sooty mold problem. Crape Myrtles are highly susceptible to sooty mold. You can also use horticultural oil in lieu of the soapy water if it’s especially bad. Just google “Horticultural oil bonide” to find and purchase Spray in the early evening after the plant is no longer in direct sunlight. Just like tanning oil, neem and horticultural oil can exaggerate the effects of the sun and you run the risk of sun burning the leaves if you apply in full sun. Depending on the severity of the infestation, repeat applications may need to be made every two weeks or so. Always follow the directions when using any pesticide.

    Thank you for this. Can it grow on grass? If so, can pets drag it in the house?

    • @meetyourplant6437
      @meetyourplant6437 3 месяца назад

      Thank you for the great question! Yes, sooty mold can grow on grass. Sooty mold on grass is indicative of overwatering Yes, pets can drag in home, though, do not foresee this becoming a problem for any indoor plants you may have as the inside of a home is generally dry. Sooty mold needs constant moisture or humidity to survive

    Great video. 1. Won't the excess water affect the plant in one of two ways? Either by washing off the first solution at the roots or reintroducing the "washed off aphids and the mold back to the roots through the drip line? 2. What are your thoughts on neem oil regarding the same overall issue of small insects including white flies, mily bugs, etc? Thanks

    • @meetyourplant6437
      @meetyourplant6437 7 месяцев назад

      Thank you for your comment and questions 1. No, excess water from applying the soapy water will not wash off the first systematic insecticide solution. Do not excessively wash off the soapy water. By excessive I mean spraying the soapy water off more than 30 seconds to a minute 2. Would use neem oil in conjunction with the systematice insecticide. The neem oil can serve as a substitute for the soapy water foliar application

    • @meetyourplant6437
      @meetyourplant6437 Год назад

      Apologies for the delayed response... Here are the answers to the questions you had: 1) Each floating step was about 4' deep and 8' long. When creating steps, do not make it less than 3" thick and no more than 5" thick. Forgot how thick we made these steps. The thickness of each step depends on the height difference between the beginning of the step path and the end of the step path. Consult with your contractor how thick each step should be. 2) Step lights were the 12" ones. Model numbers for each light we used: Path Light Model #1050-A Directional Light Model #1140-A Flood Light Model #1240-A Step Light Model # 1411-12 Do let us know if you have any other questions and thank you for commenting!

Neither of these applications will kill the plants so long as you follow the instructions in the video and those found on the Bonide systemic insecticide label. Would mix about 1 cup of laundry detergent per 5 gallon of water for the foliar application. When you purchase Bonide Systemic Insecticide container, the label will provide instructions on how much to mix with water.

    Hi! Thanks for sharing! What zone are you in? I'm in Southern California, inland empire and it would be nice to see more flowers that are native and drought tolerant. Thank you!

    • @meetyourplant6437
      @meetyourplant6437 Год назад

      Hi Veronica! Thank you for the great question :) Zone 24 is where am located. Having said that, have done several designs in the IE. Will definitely create a video depicting some of my favorite and proven flowering plants that have used in those designs that will help you with your native/drought-tolerant plant choices :) Would like to mention that I do not use zones as they are limiting and cause people to miss out on fantastic plants they could otherwise grow due to their microclimate, unfortunately :( Before reading on, here is the short version of what I explain in detail in the long version below: Short Version of Why Do Not Use Zones: Rather than using zones as a guideline for planting decisions, find out what temperature range the plant you are considering for your yard can survive within, and what kind of environment it naturally grows in. Then determine whether your yard actually fits that temperature range or not :) Long Version of Why Do Not Use Zones: Zones cause people to rule out plants that can actually grow in their yards because our yards possibly contain microclimates that do not fall under the "zone" they are located in. For instance, planters near houses can sometimes create protected environments where plants that normally would not grow in the "planting zone" actually survive. Those protected environments help shield plants from extreme heat, cold snaps, high winds, and other weather elements. The way recommend picking plants is determining how hot and cold temperatures reach in your actual yard or neighborhood. Then, based on those temperatures, you can decide whether a plant can thrive within that temperature range. Let us say, for example, that you are able to grow a Cordyline fruticosa because you actually live on a heat island caused by asphalt roads, concrete, or large stones. Cordyline fruticosa tend to die when temperatures dip below 55 degrees. The heat island you live on provides warmer temperatures than the neighborhoods surrounding your home, thus limiting days that reach 55 degrees or below. Since you live on a heat island that rarely gets below 55 degrees, then you can plant Cordyline fruticosa in your yard whereas your neighbor 3 miles down the street cannot because their microclimate is 10 degrees colder than yours. Rather than using zones as a guideline for planting decisions, find out what temperature range the plant you are considering for your yard can survive within, and what kind of environment it naturally grows in. Then determine whether your yard actually fits that temperature range or not :)
