POST GASTRIC BYPASS
Vitamin Regimen - BASIC plan
(Add to this based on your particular lab work)
30g of whey protein supplement, made in water, 3 to 5 times per day, no milk, no sugar.
AND 64 oz of water - minimum
This vitamin schedule is just a suggestion. You can take them any way you wish as long as you follow the rules listed below. Since the rules can be complicated, many people wanted a good place to start. That is why this schedule was created.
For the first 5 weeks, you should be taking your vitamins in liquid or chewable form. At 5 weeks you will be able to change to pills. It will then be a good idea to put the vitamins in a pill case for the week. Then you can see what you have taken, or if you have missed something. A good pill case has removable sections for 7 days.... 4 sections for each day. These are available at most pharmacies.
AM: 2 iron (25 mg each) Ferrous FUMERATE, Carbonyl iron, or elemental iron
Vit C (1000mg) ascorbic acid
MID-DAY: Calcium CITRATE (500mg) with Vit D and Magnesium (250mg)
Vit E (400IU E - DRY)
1 multi-vitamin with minerals
EVENING: Calcium CITRATE (500mg) with Vit D and Magnesium (250mg)
Zinc (50mg zinc gluconate, chelated)
1 Vit A&D (10,000 IU Vit A & 400 IU Vit D3)
BEDTIME: Calcium CITRATE (500mg) with Vit D and Magnesium (250mg)
1 multi-vitamin with minerals
EXTRA: 1 sublingual B-12 daily (cobalamin concentrate)
or monthly B-12 injection - 1cc
B Complex tabs daily, especially for added energy

Some rules for vitamin supplements:
IRON.............
Take iron (ferrous FUMERATE or Carbonyl iron only, NOT ferrous SULFATE!)
Iron is NOT a friendly vitamin.
**Take iron ALONE, NOT with other meds, calcium fortified juices, dairy products, calcium, etc....ALONE (ok with Vit C only), or it will be useless. We have a VERY hard time absorbing iron, so this is very important!**
CALCIUM..........
Take Calcium CITRATE, NOT Calcium Carbonate. Not Tums (This is carbonate). We do not absorb the carbonate! There are some other types we do absorb, one is elemental calcium. Remember....do not take it with iron. Calcium also needs Vit D and Magnesium to work. If your calcium does not have these in the tablet, then you must add Magnesium and more Vit D also.
Multi-vitamins.....
You should use **adult *

Please arm yourself with the knowledge of what kind and some sort of schedule. So many people I am watching take their vitamins and are not sure how often or when...BUT most important is WHAT KIND!!!

Thanks for this post. One of the goals of the WLSFA - I sent you a link in your channel comments is to develop a best practice guide for WLS people so they have a go to place to get the BEST information regarding vitamins and all follow care after surgery. If you join the web site and fill out a volunteer survey you could help us make this a reality! Thee is a lot of info out there... it is just a mess really!
Ouch! Why didn't they give you the patch first? It is an Opiate probably Morphine, but if you feel pain maybe not. Hope that heals up quick for you!

Protein is HUGE!! I agree, Thats why I lost the use of my legs and muscle all over. But I didnt know that out of 13 grams you only absorb 3 grams... I need to look more into this... thanks love...
lmfao, your too funny "We are So not babies" Lack of B-12 can cause irreversable brain damange... Very dangerous - I have to take 1500mg daily to keep up with it. I do- do the childrens daily Vitamin, the one with breast milk in it, unfortunately to take these you have to take tons - I have to take 8 of these a day LOL So it is okay to skip meals? Because I will be honest, Im tired of eatting, but I take enough vits and cottage cheese to last lol
ty! AMAZESD is how I am starting to feel. Never thought this was possible!! I love all the support from my WLS "family" it has helped in more ways than anyone outside looking in will ever be able to understand!!

I feel you on expecting better than where you are... I do the same thing but you look amazing girl. I dont know how you work out as much as you are. I am on a plateau too...
