The Long Haul Jacket from Taylor Stitch
I've been enjoying textures lately. The Long Haul Jacket from Taylor Stitch experiments in this, so I'm looking at Taylor Stitch's Long Haul jacket as a series. I have the Washed Indigo Waffle, Peat Nep Herringbone, and Light Sage Corduroy. We'll examine what I can see from the construction and why I like this jacket.

Truman Boots (79 vs 20 vs 56 Lasts)
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.Месяц назад
I know it's controversial with them possibly shutting down, but I have seen a lot of people wanting to know how they fit in case they're picking up some new boots in the clearance process. Let's talk about Truman Boot Co. and their lasts for how the fit. We look at the 79 last, the 20 last, and the 56 last today. As said in this video, that's the order of familiarity for me. The 56 last is thei...
Grant Stone Lasts (Leo vs Floyd) and their Patterns

I was a bit too ambitious with this video. I tried to redo some of the parts but I still wasn't happy. I'm going to put it up still hoping it can help some people look at all the models within the Grant Stone Leo and Floyd lasts and what might make a small difference with the different construction choices. Obviously, the last is the most important part but I do think some of the small construc...

I was contemplating for quiet a while( i mean years😅) When one day i found a rtw on instagram by junkard Looked at the price ✅ The colour - honey glazed shell by horween ✅ In a classic service boot style😍✅ I told my self the stars have aligned for me to have them dont close the doors and regret later😂. So i pulled the trigger and yup was the best decision and most loved boot among my "little" collection of boots😂
I own one too and is the best shade of shell cordovan by horween. Cigar shells may be close second😅
Same experience with my WC field boot so until the heal locks in I have heel liners in. I typically have this problem with PNW Boots until they break in.
I also wish they expanded the Ottawa line with leathers and outsoles. I would love the choice of doing a custom boot with them.
I’d do some leather sole MTOs given the choice
That Rough Mohawk leather is so cool. Seriously a great reason to buy a pair of boots.
So, did you size down from Brannock in 56 last, or did you go true to size?
TTS and am happy with it
@ thank you! That’s very helpful. I’m trying to figure out my 56 last size. I had to size up a half from Brannock in 79. TTS in 20. Imagine that!
Lovely lineup, take no guff from any one that gives you a hard time about the Brass in the rough suede. Those boots are awesome. 👍 And if your feet are in the normal sizing bracket, give thanks! Those of us who have a Brannock at or above size 13.5 don't have the variety of choices that most do, and have to pick and choose among our limited options carefully. It's an issue that's becoming worse, I've encouraged Andrew at Parkhurst to expand his sizing, and he's adamant that the business case isn't there. Truman has stopped making large sizes for all practical purposes even though they advertise them. And Grant Stone is apparently holding fast to US 13 and below. So pour out a little eggnog for those of us born with boat oars instead of feet. Happy holidays everyone! 🍻
One day we will have all bookmakers celebrate all foot sizes
like the denim with the plaid lining, can you id please?
Oh I love them. Bonobos flannel fireside jeans

Congrats! I have the Garnet shell from the 1st quarter of 2023. Great leather, and good boots. Please give us an update each month or so. Ps. Im a 10.5, if you ever want to sell haha
Careful, I might need to snag your Garnetts!!
New subscriber here. Going to catch up on your other videos too.
Side note: I think it would be cool to see your entire footwear collection as a dedicated video.
Awesome! Thank you!
I still can't figure out what size to order. My Cowboy boots are 8EE. Tried 8.5D for a while, but after break in they are a bit long. Yet still tight around the mid foot. Now I have to add some tape on my heel to get those to fit. Sneakers are 9.5 since I have a bit of wide feet in the front. JK boots recommends 8EE, but after talking with Truman. They suggested an 8D. I'm not too sure about that. I am thinking about just getting some Red Wing Blacksmith's first. There is a store right down the road from me and I could get a good idea on my boot size. Been dealing with plantar fasciitis for years. I started wearing some Ariat cowboy boots a few months ago. it seems like the stiffer, less cushioned boot causes less swelling and pain in my foot by the end of the day.
I only own a 79 last and I find the fit physically ok, but I do really dislike the shape of the toebox. I find it kind of an ugly stubby almond. I wish I could have got the 20 last, which seems a bit closer to a munson style last that I prefer, but they are so limited with their leather options.
Limited 20 options? Yeah. Just ordered another 20 last myself w their recent MTO
Please do the dedicated video on that Brass Boot Jungle Kangaroo
It seriously is an addiction, great choices for boots. I’ve got several Thursdays and several Grant Stones. Need to check out Truman. What about the Diplomat from Thursday maybe that one would be ok for snow..
I tend to avoid wedge soles in the winter. The grip seems to be ill-suited for my situations in winter.
@ oh gotcha. I thought wedge soles were good for winter. But what do I know I’m in Texas…
I've always gone TTS on the 79 & 20 last, but I'm looking forward to trying a 56 last in half size down to see it works
It’s probably rare to go down but certainly possible
They're not the RT3, mine are much rounder in the toe. Either True or Kingmaker last. *I went down 0.5 for the RT3 and they fit me perfect! I had to go true to my sneaker size(9.5) for my Classic Brown Lug sole Diplomats, the wedge sole was way too narrow for me even at 9.5.
Thanks. Wish they had serial numbers that could give me the answer
i'm interested in seeing the update on the Challenger. I just picked up a pair in the black teacore leather. I do already own a pair of PNW boots (JK OTs), so I'm not concerned about the break in, but I'm interested in seeing how the Thrusdays do.
I’m working on it!
You got the Wookie skin boots! You are a far more flamboyant person than I for sure!
They’re different for sure
Give your cobbler some work and get them re heeled. Thursday went full Retard these these heels. There is no dress shoe, cowboy boot, or logger that has a sloaped heel its the stupidest thing ive ever seen and a medical risk...
I have two pairs, the Edward in Minerva and Grant Stone in Color 8. Both great, feel sturdy for any normal activity you’d realistically need them for. The Edward is definitely a more refined fit while still being in the Leo last, likely due to the stiffer Minerva leather. But both are just incredible fitting. They did tell me as someone with high insteps to get the E width at Brannock size for anyone else out there, and it’s worked wonders for me after years of trying to dial in my boot size.
I’m all for thick tongue leathers
What boots was at 0.37 ? With arctic grip 0:37
You can get that sole as a replacement. They come stock on Wolverine Durashock SRs
Great video! If you're not already a part of the r/grantstoneboots subreddit please join us there. We started the sub almost 2yrs ago and we have over 3070 active memebers. This video could be good on the sub. Would be happy to have you there. Cheers!
I’ll have to create an account.
Do you find a real benefit to the boot trees as opposed to using low shoe trees? I haven’t seen them selling for less than almost three times the cost of regular shoe trees.
No, I haven’t noticed a big improvement other than carrying them. I’d probably stick with the low ones if i were buying them now. A lot of them were gifts from the wife over the years after I bought first few myself.
I would like to see red wing lasts used as a comparison to judge other lasts on, since they are kind of the benchmark most people are familiar with. Consensus or reddit is the 79 last fits half size smaller than the 8 last from RW for example.
Was supposed to be Dome
There are boots go wear them and send to some to be viewed.
Sorry I can't sit through anymore Carl, Rose anvil, Teik boot videos subject is getting bored. Sorry it was you who I texted to I did text them also
Love the list, those are excellent picks for a rotation. Personally I love the nappy look of the mohawk roughout leather. I have a pair from Lanx in my rotation right now that uses the much darker variation and I'm hoping it lightens with wear. I also just bought a pair of GS during the black friday sale that are outside my normal comfort zone...the Diesels in Waxed Burro leather...they're going to be my experimental pair for the next few months at least. :)
Oh those look super interesting as they wear. This is the one hobby where I can say I hope yours get super messed up 😂
@@TheStyleCantina For sure, that's why I prefer a boot collection. I have a sneaker collection too, but it's too much of a pain keeping them clean and crease-free :)
Thursday seems to put too tall a heel on their boots than the Last is designed for. You can see how the Lasts used in PNW space and cowboy boots where they flatten back out in the heel even with tall heel/arch. They don’t look like a door stop, which Thursday reminds me of.
The Thursday Challenger is an expensive cheap boot, all the right materials put together in the worst possible way. Made for looks and not human feet IMO.👍
I was going to post something similar. I own a large number of boots and own several Captain, Vanguard and President boots. Though I like them and the price makes them worry free if I damage them, I've always thought the heel was a bit high compared to many of my other boots (from Vibergs down to Chippewas). I notice it if I try and hurry and walk fast or run, it feels awkward and uncomfortable. I've not found a problem walking normally though and I think it affects you if your gait makes you a heel striker. I don't own any tall heel PNW boots but none of my other boots from US, British or European manufacturers feel the same.
It almost feels like a mistake sometimes when I look at it. Like trying to cover up a Lasting mistake but it’s their actual design. It’s such an odd decision that probably won’t bother most people, but it seems to be activating issues for me lately. At least, not until lately
When it comes to a winter boot I think of outsoles like tires: what makes a winter tire a winter tire isn’t the tread, it’s the rubber compound, more accurately it’s softer. I have found the softer rubber outsoles have better grip in the snow and ice. My go to winter boot is a Whites bounty hunter with a combo wedge/Vibram Megagrip trail running sole.
I really hope you do a review of the red russet rambler trumans. Those were beautiful. I think they are my favorite boot ive seen so far in my 3 years of boot collecting
Oh I love them. I’ve had a few requests for it. I will work on it but give me a bit of time as I had a few other video ideas I’m working on in the meantime
I would so love that leather on some boots, some day....
The Color 8 Diesels are a staple in my rotation. I agree about their versatility; too many people overlook burgundy. The bronze rough suede Brass boot is becoming a fall/winter favorite of mine. Love the Garrisons in storm kudu. If I get another pair of Garrisons it will probably be that one. Overall a really great list and loving the channel. Keep it up :)
If you get them, they are as amazing as they look!
Thursdays captians and president narrow boots with weak heal stack whatever it is on back of the heal , it will give your feet pain because it's a cheap built boot. My thursday is on bottom of my 13 bott rotation , dont wear them anymore .
Thanks for sharing. What’s the most frequently worn for your rotation?
Friends dont let friends buy Thursday's. Never could get behind them and it was getting increasingly irritating they paid so many social media content producers to hype them up. i get they are a gateway into boots at that price point but I'd rather save another couple months and straight to Redwing or Wolverine.
I like the idea of focusing on a few boots. I’ve found that some of my boots work better with thin dress socks, while others better accommodate medium or thicker socks. And so I try and have one or two pairs on hand that can work with whatever socks I’m wearing or want to wear due to the weather.
I have that same situation but haven’t thought of it that way. Good point
🫢😮
Got my Honey Ottawas yesterday and they're my favorite pair yet. Super comfortable and they look amazing. Can't wait for them to patina and darken
Good choice!
Have ordered the saphir cordovan cream but scared using it don't want to ruin by oversaturating the leather
Thank you for taking the time to make this. It's definitely the most informative video I've seen on the topic. I'm not personally in the market for another pair of Truman's, but they are all the rage at the moment with a following that's devoted to say the least, and they will continue to get some interest from new buyers, and people like me who became automatically interested in them when I was looking to make my first higher end boot purchase but limited in options since many makers don't produce anything above a size 13 (I'm a 13.5 D Brannock and wear a size 14 in most casual and dress footwear). I ended up going TTS on the 79, and tried a half size up as well with poor results despite never needing a wide width in any footwear previously. So in my case, with a higher volume foot I had to go to an EE width to get a good fit. The leather type may also play a role, the size I settled on in my 5oz Java Waxed Flesh boots did not fit with a 7oz Seidel "Double Shot" variant. I found the 79 to be awkwardly designed, wide in the heel, and narrow from the waist forward. And obviously if you are expecting any significant amount of arch support from that last, just don't. If memory serves the 79 last was not their own originally, I recall reading that it was purchased from another footwear company that went bankrupt. The new lasts are apparently much better, and as mentioned not inexpensive to have produced, which makes this nonsense about ceasing production of heritage boots laughable in my opinion. They've moved twice to set up shop in an area with the workers they need, and invested heavily in the machines that allow them to produce the easier to make and more profitable GYW boots compared to their original stitchdown models. And they did all this at GREAT expense. If I had a farm like Truman's profane, angry/frustrated owner, I'd bet every acre that we see few significant changes from them in 2025. Keep tabs on their Terms and Conditions, they have changed dramatically this year alone. Refunds used to be held for 15 business days, thats now reduced to 10 (Likely due to pressure from Grant Stone, who issues refunds in 3 days MAX). The restocking fee used to be "Rarely applied," that language is now gone. Not that it ever mattered, if you do something they don't like as I did (Ordering multiple pairs in different sizes to bypass what was then a month long return process) and arent in the 5+ pair club, you'll learn about their restocking fee at the end of the process, when your refund amount is $30 per pair less than what you paid. You not only won't get your full refund, you won't get a reason why either. They also have a two-pair limit per order now, which was not in effect when I purchased mine earlier this year. Ultimately I kept a $480 pair of Java 79s, who knows what they do to customers who order from them but don't actually keep their purchase. It goes without saying they don't like to produce any large sizes for reasons that are fairly self-explanatory. All of that's a non-issue now, I haven't seen anything over a size 12 in inventory in many months. Only one thing that can really be said about Truman with any certainty: The owner's madman-adjacent ramblings and the accompanying rumors certainly seem to have fueled a LOT of sales of late...
Thanks for sharing your experience
Congrats! I'm on the GS mailing list and get mail from them constantly. Just never any relating to the shell pre-orders. I'll live. Plenty of similarly cool options at that price point.
GS is stacked with amazing options
Wish they came in wide widths
I hear you
I managed to snag a new pair of these on Grailed from the last run - they are beautiful. Been waiting for Maduro shell rerun since then 🥲
They gotta come back soon, right?
Maduro coming soon (could be “within weeks” soon). GS noted on StyleForum today.
@@VincentGeorgeOnSF awesome! thanks for the heads up.
Congratulations beautiful Shell Cordovan on immaculate GS finishings!
Thank you so much!
Shell from GS is always preorder. All GS boots are 15- 20% more expensive than 4-5 years ago. No Edward boots are gusseted, shell has no grain as its a membrane between the skin and the horse’s a**. The $200 more is for materials, there will not be any difference in QC. It’s referred to as shell and not leather.
Shell is still leather, it's a tanned part of the hide.
I ordered the Veg Tan Leather Diesel limited release in their Lug outsole. There is such a depth of color...cant imagine the Shell in-person. Congrats! What a gorgeous boot I relate to the "ohhhhh" when you see the boot and try them on haha
Good choice!
My exact same pair arrived yesterday. Just beautiful. By now everyone knows, if you want a GS shell boot you have to sign up for the mailing list and buy immediately or very soon after receiving their notification. I have three of their shell boots and they are among favorites. Nicely done video!
It would be amazing to have three. That’s awesome
Great timing. I have the same pair out for delivery today! Such a cool boot.
I hope you enjoy yours!
They are never available.
One day hardly seems long enough
Your best bet is to sign up for their email newsletter so you know when the pre-orders are up
#1 First, I settled on the dark olive cxl edward boot. I missed out on the jungle kangaroo sold out. Man the dark olive cxl is the poorman's shell. Glad I so called settled on the dark olive.
Olive CXL is a beaut! Enjoy!
I got this leather in the Chelsea style boot and absolutely love it.
I needed tts in 20 and 79. Haven't tried the 56 last yet.
I need the video for that red russet rambler. No one has a video up for that leather. It's so beautiful. I want a pair but it's not findable in my size, why! Obviously a limited edition release
Will do!
Ended up getting lucky. They had one pair of seconds available in the upland red russet available in my size. Bought it literally ASAP. I love the boot. It's beautiful. Just got it yesterday. @@TheStyleCantina
