We Went SXS Oval Track Racing With The YXZ Sprint Car @ Goods Raceway
Просмотров 732Год назад
We finally took a green flag with our YXZ Sprint Car setup on Kev’s car. We were the only N/A car there so we had to run with the turbos but held our own. Rain ultimately ended the night 1 lap into the feature.

Most if not all UTV woods races or harescrambles are dead engine start. You said that it’s the same with the stock white single coil springs on a 16 correct? You just disregard the crossover spring settings.
@@ricksteel6401 thank you and yes! Of course the measurements would not be the same but overall the idea and the theory behind it applies to both.
Awesome Video!!
Say I want to make it smoother for trail riding should I speed up my rebound at the bottom of my shock. I experienced a little with the rebound on my pit bike aftermarket shock and when I went all the way fast on the rebound screw on the shock it rode alot better than when I turned it to slow. I figure it my transfer to my yxz totally new to this just trying to do a little research. seems to me rebound screw would be easiest to experiment with first. Don't really want to mess with the bolt with the little screw if it turns with it yet till I learn more but that single rebound screw at bottom of shock seems easy enough
Yes the rebound setting will have some affect on the ride no doubt, but to be honest if we were going to try and improve ride quality on the trail I wouldn’t go there first. The first two things I would look at it the low speed compression setting, or if it has a dual rate spring setup we would look at where the slider is in comparison to the crossover nuts when the car is at ride height which controls how much of your rod is being controlled through the tender spring. Don’t be afraid to adjust on the compression nuts. They have 4 turns of adjustment all stiffer rotating clockwise. Put a wrench on the high speed and count the number of turns until the screw bottoms out. Back the screw out back to where it was and soften it by 1 turn. If you would like to discuss this more in depth we’d be glad to help. Go to the Race Relentless website and send a customer email and leave a number and we can call you back to discuss further.
What size/shape groove do you recommend, figure flat bottom but wondering how wide?
Are the sxs races here beginner friendly
@@briankent1922 very!!
@@briankent1922 this track is great for beginners! Joe and his staff are super easy to get along with and I think the “down home” feel you get there really takes the pressure off beginner racers. You will have fun there!!
@@writeselwelding thanks
Did you all not have minimum ride height when racing?
@JoshStenberg ..no we never had a minimum ride height rule at any of the places we were racing…I think that’s what you’re asking? We have a 10” minimum ride height rule in the pro buggy but we never had a ride height rule to follow in the sxs
@writeselwelding yeah I seenyou all in Lena last year since champ off road has that rule. I'm running in sxs class and they have it top. Hence why I asked. Also might see you at a couple races too. I will stop by and such
@@JoshStenberg yes! Stop by anytime!!
What size are those Hoosiers
@aronsrb4815 those are 26.5” mediums… and a 27.5” medium on the right rear to put some stager in it
My 17 yxz has X2 shocks. Is it possible to tighten the springs up that much on these? The other adjustments made a huge difference. I do a lot of road riding to hit the trails and would like a tighter ride.
Hey @jamesbrady1959 thanks for the question. When you say tighten up the spring are you referring to moving the compression nut at the top of the spring to compress the spring more?
First race is in March, hope to see yall there.
After taking some laps…Racing on that track has to be an absolute blast and we ever have the opportunity to go back we definitely will! Where can we find class info for the races?
They have a sxs class the dates are on there fb page
March 9th is round 1
Gp race and night endurance race I believe they run once a month
I have the 2024 rules in a pdf
“John was fired up!” 😂😂😂
Oh yea!!!
That was an understatement. You would have thought we won
Where do you guys race at? Mao?
@Hondarider35 no we’ve never been to any MAO events that’s a long tow for us. We race the SXS in the Ohio Pennsylvania area. We’ve never ran any real big event with the SXS but we did run the buggies at 6 races with Champ Off-road last year
Are there any honda pilots/oddyseys still racing up there? We used to bring our 4 rotax oddyseys up there from Southern Maryland. Utvs were rare to see then. But haven't been up there since 2013.
No not anymore unfortunately. We started racing there in 2011 and I remember some pilots running there it was probably you guys!! That’s cool. I remember a group running with MAORA also and I believe there was even some old Briggs Built Stadium Lites that ran with them.
You guys race in 4x4 H or 4x2
We always run short course races in 4x4…it was tempting at first to run in 4x2 just to help the rear end rotate on corner entry but once we got our setup dialed you can’t match the drive off the corner like in 4x4
I am sorry about sliding up into you going into turn one. I do want to say, Thank you for mentioning me trying to bring attention to this sxs oval track racing. I hope other tracks in the area see this and give it a chance.
@brendanhbeck7127 not a problem at all man that’s racing! Had fun racing with you all…A quick mention is no big deal we’ve been watching what you’re trying to put together and appreciate it! Keep up the good work.
Love the yxz bro I got a 22 xtr myself. You got that thing looking like an outlaw car. What state is goods race way in. Keep the vids coming I seen the white yxz in a UTV mag bout a yr ago said it was gonna be in next months issue but I never seen it or might have missedit. I made mine street legal mines all black going for the bat mobile vibe. If u was turbo they wouldn't stand a chance
Thank you! Goods Raceway is in Deerfield Ohio. Yea when we finished the wing it was in UTV Action and was supposed to be in the next months issue with a full story and we sent pics and an in depth description of the car and it was never in the next months issue so we don’t know what happened! Street legal would be awesome! What tires did put on for the street?
@@writeselwelding buddy I'm still on stock carnivores and they suck and it likes to walk on me in turns. This is my first utv still trying to teach myself and research what to get. I got 55hrs and 1169 miles do u have any suggestions has for a good street tire that will fit and work on my stock 14 inch wheels I do have the Xtr so I think my wheels are a little different than 1000r yxz I got beadocks. I want 30x10x14 I guess seems to be what a lot of ppl are running
Glad to see the video! I'm tip toeing into sxs racing, had my first one a few weekends ago at durhamtown in GA. You should check it out. There's just nowhere In my area hosting races.
@townsendstewert661 Do you take it Offroad also or is it strictly a street machine?
@johndiel651 Durhamtown! Nice! I bet that was a blast. My partner Kevin had raced down there but i personally have never been there. Always wanted to though it looks like an awesome place!
ruclips.net/video/nxuQrZprOik/видео.htmlsi=WJflKOH71mc7O8jj
What stage springs did you guys use? 1 or 2?
Single stage springs but dual rate
I’m blaming my tires not the driver skill😂 always awesome to see you guys come down hope to see you all again in October maybe give you some competition in the dry
We were lucky we brought the mud tires with us cause the weather showed absolutely no rain for the weekend lol…it was fun but the racing is never that great in those conditions. Hopefully next time it’s a little better conditions and we can have a Che-NOWTH showdown!
Now that you have Hoosiers how do you like them versus the Ceros?
@markmanning6773 Hey Mark! After having both styles of tire we still kind of lean towards the Ceros and thats just because of how versatile they are. The Hoosiers are great don’t get me wrong but they need the track to be in a certain condition for them to really shine. To many races we have seen really fast guys go with Hoosiers and the track crew water the track right before our race and by the time the Hoosiers really started working we had already checked out! This also has to do with the area we mostly run in eastern Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and we always have the Hoosiers or snow tires ready to bolt on we tend to run the ceros more often! Hope this answers your question, thanks for watching!
Have you seen the Hoosiers bite’s tires?
😃🤙
🤙 Thanks for watching!!
@@writeselwelding No thanks for putting out good useful content ! You guys are some good racers ! I love watching some yxz content when my buts parked in the sofa lol ,got a YXZ a few months back so I'm having fun with mine -2015- riding and tuning stuff like suspension ,tires, eco tune, exhaust . Love the Yxz , its a blast !
Thanks man we appreciate that!! They are a blast for sure. If you ever have any questions we’d be glad to help don’t hesitate to ask!
Awesome info thanks! I noticed a huge difference after watching video and adjusting suspension ! Maybe you can make a video on what tires and size are good for gravel dirt roads /track , that be helpful! Thanks a bunch !
That’s awesome!! we’re glad we could help! The tire video is an excellent idea we will definitely keep that in mind! Thanks for watching!
Hi guys I have a 2017 YXZ SE with the X2's what's your thoughts on a better ride for this setup?
Hey, Thank for watching thanks for the comment…a better setup for improved ride quality really depends on what type of riding or racing you primarily do with your machine? What do you use your machine for most of the time?
@@writeselwelding we do a lot of sand dunes and desert riding
Wow great! Were out in Arizona so would need new springs? Oh also do you guys run the sway bars front and rear?
Yes we run Eibach bars front and rear on one car and on the other we run the stock bar up front and a custom built setup on the rear. Definitely a dual rate spring setup is the ticket for desert riding…the dual rates will allow way more fine tuning. If your in the desert at higher speeds across the chop you can work the tender springs and play with the high speed compression settings and then rely on the main spring for the bigger jumps…that will be done with your crossover setting
Love your video!
Thanks Judy!
Could the Lone Star+3,5" Kit make lowering the ride?
I’m not sure I’m fully understanding the question, what exactly are you asking. I don’t wanna answer and sound stupid lol
@@writeselwelding I am trying to find Out if it is possible to make the yxz much lower. Kind Like a Buggy. The Lone Star Kit makes the ride wider, but is it able to lower the Chassis .
Ok gotcha now! So ride height on a coil over setup is typically determined by the spring compression setting. However shock length and location can also affect this if they are changed so in the case of the lone star kit if the same overall shock length is used and the shock mounting location on the upper arm is moved out towards the wheel then yes the lone star kit could potentially lower the height. I’m not familiar with that kit enough to say whether those mounts are in the factory location or not! I hope this helped in some way!
@@writeselwelding thank you! Yes now I See whats the main question Here : "mounts factory Location" It Seems it's Not that easy and expensive to make the Yamaha low.
Well not necessarily. You can simply adjust your spring preload setting as it sits and will lower the ride height but you are bound by the total length of the spring stack at full droop………..unless you introduce limit straps! What suspension setup are you currently on? And what machine? You may have a few cheap options
Great video
Thanks man!
Well done, and congrats to a couple of successful fathers. You are fortunate to enjoy the same things your father was into. I was nearly 16 when most of these videos were made, and wanted nothing more than to do exactly what he was doing. My father was very well educated engineer, and only accepted good grades & being an engineer - which was not me. Sounds like you are on the right path with your kids - be supportive and understanding, while showing them hard work creates the ability to live their dreams 👍👊🇺🇸🤘
Right on! Thank you!!! Always great to hear from you!
An interesting fact you might not have noticed because of the low quality in the old clips but the yellow buggy #43 that’s racing my dad in the first clip of the video and a few other times throughout is actually Kevin’s Dad…John
@@writeselwelding that is cool. I’ve got 2 buddies from HS that grew up together, born 1 month apart, and now have boys nearly the same age and best friends. That’s building a tribe, community, and culture 👍👊🇺🇸🤘 Looking at them all standing around the trailer reminded me of being around the extended family, which were all farmers. Those were great times, with great people.
That’s awesome!! So another cool fact since you mentioned that scene…sitting on the trailer is Scott Kuryn who has 2 sons our age that race the buggies with us, and standing next to my dad is Tim Molinaro who now owns the green super buggy and 1600 buggy that I drive!…just amazing how everyone stayed together and got there kids involved and are still doing it together 30 years later just in different ways is awesome to me
Pretty kick ass! Awesome Fathers Day tribute.
Thanks man!
Where is this track at?
Little town in Eastern Ohio called Adena
Awesome I'm in North Carolina I'll have to check it out sometime is there anywhere else to ride around there or is it just this track?
Cool! Yea this is the only track in this area besides Rolling W Ranch in West Sunbury Pa. We’ve raced there in a few of our other videos….there’s a place to ride real close to this track called Renegade Ridge which isn’t a bad place
good to see you still racing Hoss.. awesome man!
Almost 15 years in it buddy!! Where does the time go! Good to hear from my friend hope all is well!!
Car is flying! That track looks killer
Thanks! KG got this girl ripping! This track is always fun to drive its elbows up for sure! Heard the YXZ was on rails at Marengo until it wasn't!!
Just wondering, and I apologize if it was mentioned in the video because I must have missed it then. What ride height front and rear are associated with these settings?
No you are correct we didn’t mention ride heights in the video. Ride heights measured roughly 10 3/8” rear and 11 3/8” front using the most rear facing lower pivot bolts to the ground! Hope this helped!! Thanks for watching!!
You might be able to get this exact measurements it will depend on the spring setup you’re running but you do wanna be 1/2”-1” higher in the front
Much appreciated! Great video, great info. Tuning a 2020 XTR with RC2s and stock dual springs and looking to see what kind of performance I can get out of them before jumping to Weller.

🥲🥲🥲
Time for some new projects Rick! When are we gonna that RZR trail ready??
There is no straight away anymore. That was really the best spot to make a pass was setting someone up there. Not a huge fan or it with all the tight turns and no straight
I would agree that the straightaway was the best place to pass as long as you were a good deal faster than the other car. I feel like this new section presents more opportunities to set someone up than the straightaway did. I can understand you not being a fan of it though. All I can say is I personally have hundreds of laps around Joes Speedway and I enjoyed driving this configuration way more than the others!
Add an option/joker lane… that will help make it racy and exciting
Brad that would definitely be very interesting! I would worry a little about it complicating the scoring as far as keeping track of who has taken the joker or not on top of the running order. It might be something that’s easier to manage with transponders? What’s your thoughts on that?
It looks different with a different lay out
Yea it’s definitely different!
@@writeselwelding yes it is

We got it all!!! The final episode of this build will be the best by far!!!
what is y’all’s tire and wheel set up? i have a yxz and want to get into short course. it’s stock, what are the first few changes i should make, thanks
Our wheels are 14” system 3 (stock offset) with 1.5” spacers and the tires are 26” maxxis ceros. If you’re 100% stock you should absolutely get a good cage first! Then I would definitely go suspension upgrades next, shock valving/ sway bars helped our cars so much it was unbelievable! I would get comfortable and get the car to handle before I did anything else. A steering quickener is a huge upgrade also!
