Helpful but........I don't know what "koto" means. Also, in "hanaseru you ni naru". Hanaseru is "can speak" and "naru" I think means "something that becomes" but I don't know what "you ni" means? Thank you.
Hi. I see what you mean. Thank you for asking. "koto" means "matter"or "things". It is hard to translate in the sentense but it is used to refer to something you can't touch physically like situations, activities, events etc. "naru" and "you ni naru" are very similar. naru: to become you ni naru: to become able to ( "you" means 'a way" or "a state") I hope this helps!

Is ランチ more common than 昼ご飯 ?Or is it more of a casual/formal difference?
Good question! 昼ごはん and ランチ are both common and casual. You can even use them with your coworkers/colleagues. 昼ご飯(ランチ)いっしょに行きませんか? hirugohan (ranchi) issho ni ikimasenka? I would even use the word 昼ごはん or ランチ with my older colleagues I'm close with. If there's a significant difference in age or rank between you and your coworker /colleague, you might want to use "昼食"(chuushoku *formal) instead. Thank you, as always!
Hello Mai, I'm interested in what is the difference between "tokoro" and "basho", when it comes to a place/location, etc.? Thanks for your effort and instructions best regards b.j.
Good question! I just wonder if you study Kanji since you came up with the idea. 場所 basho and 所 tokoro both mean place or location, but they are used in different situations. 1.場所 basho: It tends to indicate a specific physical location or geographical spot. <Examples> この かぐ を、 おく 場所 が ない。 kono kagu o, oku basho ga nai. (=There is no place to put this furniture.) まちあわせ 場所 machi awase basho (=meeting place) してい 場所 shitei basho (=designated location) ========== 2. 所 or ところ tokoro: refer to a place or area (and a situation, moment, or aspect of something.) しずかな 所 ですね。(place, area) shizukana tokoro desune. (=This is a quiet place, isn't it?) すてき な 所 を みつけました。 sutekin tokoro o mitsuke mashita. (I found a nice place.) I find that most of the time you can replace tokoro with basho, but no the other way around, especially when you combine 場所 with other Kanji. I think that he best way to remember the differences is to memorize these words in sentences. I hope this will help!

For "eat breakfast" why did you use torimasu instead of tabemasu(食べます)? I don’t know torimasu? 🤔 Thank you!
Choshoku o taberu is used in daily life. However, some people think that it sounds a bit strange because "choshoku' is more formal way to say "breakfast" than Asagohan but "taberu" sounds more casual. If you want to say in a casual way, you can say "Asa gohan o taberu". Choshoku consits of 2 kanjis: 朝(cho means morning) 食(shoku means morning). 1 of the meanings of toru(とる)is to have meals. So Choshoku o toru is "to have breakfast"
Very good. Useful for us beginners! ありがとうございます! 👍

HI, I totally understand. That was something I was struggling when I was learning English. Lol If you find it's too fast for you, you can change the speed on RUclips setting. I also recommend you to pause and mimic the phrases over and over. Both of your speech and hearing will improve gradually for sure. Enjoy your learning journey!
Mai-sensei, if I wanted to use particle O when ordering, would I put it after the food/drink item or after the counter for that item? Thank you. あなたはとてもかわいいです!😉
Hi, thank you for asking! We usually put "を(o)" after the item. For example, Karaage "o" mittsu (3つ)onegai shimasu. However, you could also say, Tomato sarada hitotsu, Yakisoba futasu, Karaage mittsu "o" onegai shimasu. This time, you don't say "o" after each item because it sounds weird repeating " o" several times. I hope this helps!
@@MaisJapaneseHandwriting Yes I understand! 分かります! Yes, when ordering several items I feel a little weird repeating "o" over and over! Haha, only after the last food item! ありがとうございました 👍

It seems there are a lot of verbs for cooking depending on how you're cooking the food. From the video I saw these: Itameru - cook in frying pan Atatameru- heat in microwave Yuderu - boil in pot Yaku - bake in oven Taku - to cook grains Very helpful. Does atatameru work for heating food, like leftovers, in an over or skillet as well?
Hi, thank you so much for asking ! Yes,"Atatameru means" heating things up so you can use it for heating up anythying in pot, microwave and oven. (but not in a frying pan) You can use "atatameru" to heat up a heating pad as well. *Yaku (焼く)has lots of meanings: bake, grill, burn, roast, cook in pan Do you know Yakiniku (焼肉) ? It's grilled meat. Itameru is frying something in pan. To make stir-fry, you need to "itameru". I really appreciate your support!

Is there a difference between chooshoku and asagohan?
Hello thank you for your question! Both Chooshoku and Asagohan mean breakfast. We use kanji for Chooshoku and Asagohan 朝食(Choo-shoku): 朝 means "morning", 食(shoku) means" to eat" 朝ご飯 (Asa-gohan): ご飯 means meal *ご飯 gohan also means cooked rice but here we use ご飯 as meal. Hope this helps!
Hi , is there any reason for 1 , 14 & 20 having different translation(days)? Or did they just keep it that way ? 1 to 10 follows the primary numbering system of Japanese right(days) ?
Thank you for asking a question! Long time ago, we used old ways of numbering system for telling days. For example, 11日 is used to be tooka amari tsuitachi, hatsuka amari tsuitachi for 21日. However, they got shorten afterwards. Yokka, tooka, hatsuka are already short enough so they stayed the same. I hope enjoy studying Japanese!
@@MaisJapaneseHandwriting Thanks a lot for clearing my confusion .So they got shortened and 20's Japanese translation came to be as Hatsuka. But I think u wrote same "hatsuka amari tsuitachi" for both 11 & 20 . So both of them earlier used to called as hatsuka amari tsuitachi , correct?
@@lampis1774 My apologies. I edited it. 11日 used to be Tooka(10th) amari tsuitachi( 1st). Hatsuka(20th) amari tsuitachi (1st)for 21日.

why do u use ni narimasu instead of ni arimasu?
Hi thank you for your question. Basically it means the same. Arimasu is "There are/is" .
Thank you for your work! your content makes Japanese learning feel so simple and easy. please continue making videos!
Thank you so much for saying that! Yes, I will!
Is the 'んですけど' at the end of あの、おさいふ を さがしてるんですけど added as a way of sounding polite or maybe unsure?
Hi, thank you for your question! It is added to make the sentence sound unsure. "おさいふ を さがしてるんですけど" is more like "I'm looking for wallets (but I don't know what to do.../I don't know where they are...) It sounds like an unfinished sentence but Japanese people speak like this way. さがしているのですが is more polite. さがしてるんですけど is still polite but sounds friendly as well. If you just say おさいふ を さがしています(=I'm looking for the wallets) sounds a bit unnatural since you are just saying what you are doing but not asking for help.
@@MaisJapaneseHandwriting Thank you! That's very helpful.

Are these the only fundamental alphabets? Are Dakuon and Handakuon other kinds of alphabets, which, when joined with these alphabets, create words?
Hi, there are 3 different scripts in Japanese. Hiragana, katakana and Kanji. These alphabets in this video are Hiragana. Dakuon and Handakuon can be be made with certain hiragana and katakana( the other video explains the detail) . Originally, there was no phonetic writing system in Japan. Kanji came first from China and Japanese people made Hiragana out of Kanji. However, Japanese people couldn't write all the Japanese words by using only 46 alphabets of Hiragana . That's why they created Dakuon and Handakuon. For example, panda is パンダ(ぱんだ)in Japanese. This word can't write without a Dakuon and Handakuon. I suggest you to get familiar with Hiragana sound first and then you can just check Dakuon and Handakuon when you come across words that contain "g z d b p" sound. (ゴジラ、ぎょうざ、ダーツ、バター、パパ, etc.) I hope this helps.
Are these the fundamental alphabets?
Hi, thank you for your comment! No, these are not fundamental. Here is the video for fundamental Japanese alphabets. ruclips.net/video/HuX1GBWmb-8/видео.html However, you still need to remember the sounds because we use these letters in daily life. For example, じかん (jikan ) means time.
@@MaisJapaneseHandwriting Thank you so much for the response. Are these different from the basic alphabets? Also, do we have to go from right to the left while writing in order?
If we are writing from the top to the bottom, we need to write from the right to the left. That means, all the Japanese books and magazines start from the right of the page. ( except for e-books)
