Ultimate Traditional Bulgarian Food Tour in Sophia!
Просмотров 2 тыс.Месяц назад
I'm making my way around the city center of Sophia to try the best Traditional Bulgarian food. I used ChatGPT to recommend restaurants or cafes to eat at for this food tour. It led me to some amazing places, but the last one it recommended was a longer walk than I expected so I looked up a nearby place to try Shopska salad. I'm glad I found this restaurant! It was my favorite part of the food t...

The mekitsa has many variants, but the original one that we know from our grandmothers is probably with white cheese. Banitsa is the same situation, it used to be only with cheese, today it is even with apple as a strudel Thanks for sharing Bulgaria

Great tour! Not VERY representative of our cuisine but I didn't expect much more from 5 dishes. I wish you could be around more and taste really authentic Greek food and not just street food. Don't get me wrong, we have some great street food too, but I wish you could taste real dishes a family enjoys in everyday life. I wish you the best for your future travels!

We are putting the coin usualy in the pita not in the banitsa but somme pple are putting it in the banitsa as well but the real tradition is you put a coin in the pita and then you cut it or break it and you give everyone in the family one piece and the one who find the coin is the one who will be lucky in the new year this is very old bulgarian tradition

Jarmarks may be convenient because the stalls with different food are not far from each other, but the quality is rather poor. Polish food is of better quality in restaurants and you also need to be guided by people's opinions, as not every person who runs such a place knows how to do it and employs good cooks.

Think that smoked cheese is one of the most disgusting things you can get in Poland. BTW, that cheese is the biggest miracle of Poland. Population of the sheep in Poland decreased by 80%, but the production of that cheese increased by 500 %.

@@WorldFoodTour-wft Original oscypki made from only sheep's milk can only be bought in the Polish mountains, in Zakopane, and only between May and September - when the sheep are grazing on the meadows. The rest of the cheeses are made from cow's milk or the highlanders also mix cow's milk with sheep's milk. There are different variants - smoked and unsmoked; there are different shapes and sizes too. What you can buy everywhere in Poland is oscypki made from cow's milk. But I like all these cheeses and it doesn't really matter to me what kind of milk they are made from. If you find an original one, that's fine, and if not, that's fine too.

Those places, are not that traditional. The tarator and Shopska salad were original. Mekitsa should have powdered sugar on it, not "that", and banitsa and boza - are new-age versions of the traditional ones. The boza for an instant, the only traditional ingredients in it, were the water and sugar... It would be best if you visited more local restaurants, those are fancy tourist traps. However, I am glad you liked our food and spirits.
