Same issue here. I read on vtx Cafe that the solenoid can get welded due to a weak battery. A good wack should break the weld, but if it's the battery, replacing the solenoid won't solve the issue. If didn't for me. The replacement solenoid worked for a while. I haven't tried this tractor solenoid, but I'm going to charge and take in my battery for a test first.

You got a sticking starter relay change the relay and your problem should be solved

@richardcole1280 the colors matched perfectly but the new ones are nice and glossy, like new paint. Unfortunately I purchased these several years ago and can't remember the seller.
@@Larsterlarster2010 darn. Because it looks like the blue is too purple and the yellow is too bright now. Any chance you’d be able to look it up for me?

@@Larsterlarster2010 S is not on the plastics and shouldn't be on the title(if it is the dealer messed up). tecnicly tecnicly its not an S or a T just "super adventure", In 2017 the R and S came out on a new platform and this was renamed to T.

My vtx 1800 starter button was getting stuck. Put dielectric grease on contacts and hasn’t had a problem since!

@byron5607 Check out the video again.........replaced the battery...... twice, my first attempt to fix the issue.
Did the colors match the original pretty well? I have the same OEM ones but my front nose cowl needs replaced, do you think it would be noticeably different?
Mohamed Eshnuk not sure how much sun your bike has had over the years but they are probably somewhat faded. The colors matched my old plastics but the new ones appear to be clear coated and highly glossy. Also I bought these as a complete set, not sure if they sell individual pieces

Thanks for the video. Very helpful! I couldn't help it and replaced the solenoid with a Honda OEM solenoid. It worked and fixed the problem, not sure for how long though. I think the cheap Pirates battery I got on Amazaon one year ago will need to be replaced soon as well.

Von satter I would if I had them, I tossed them out......not one piece was in decent enough condition to save or list on eBay
Cruise control deactivation tends to be problematic! CC disengages if either the hand or foot brake is touched / if the throttle is opened / OR if the right hand throttle is nudged backwards! This last one is a problem because if you hit a bump or pothole your hand is more likely to slightly nudge it and you're damn near launched forward off the bike. I either have to keep my hand off of the grip entirely or risk an unexpected disengage. Very worrisome during strong wind gusts.

Is that a cheap ebay one you first bought. The one you pulled off didn't look like a oe Honda solenoid.
@centennialfarm9811 That was the original that was taken off as far as I know. Bike was low mileage, too soon for solenoid problems I would think

This was a work around but it doesn't address the cause?... you mentioned you also put in a honda OEM solenoid with same issue of bike not turning off, replacing it with a different solenoid from a lawnmower? doesnt make sense unless internally or amp wise there is something different?
The commodity Doesn't make sense, right. I'm no motorcycle mechanic or electrician. I read on a VTX blog that a lawn mower solenoid would fix this common problem. I tried it and it worked for me. I'm second owner so not sure if something was changed before I got it but other VTX owners have the same issue so I assumed it came from the factory with the problem.

Two excellent choices for bikes to own. You should add one more bike that would fit right in to what the other two are. An early 80's Honda V-65 manga in black. In the 80's the magnas V-45 and V-65 were the fastest production bikes in their respective classes. Would make an awesome addition to the collection you have started. Stick with the best bike version of the respective year's. I'm sure that it's hard to decide what to ride. Probably comes down to the kind of mood your in as to which bike you ride. Enjoy !!!!

Fox82 I hope changing the battery helped you, that is what I tried first and didn't work for me. I replaced the battery with an original, an AGM and a gel type none of those batteries fixed the issue.

Thanks man. I’ve just started riding. I left work today on my 03 vtx1800r and stalled at a light. Restarted and headed on down the road when the starter "started starting!" Haha sorry, had to. I’ve had another issue where the starter wouldn’t start. The previous owner had mentioned needing a new solenoid, but I was hoping there was a video to confirm my situation. I appreciate you. I’ll have a solenoid in hand in 3 hours. Y’all take care.

My bike did this but once I got it turned off it won't crank now. Is it more then the solenoid?
Truth my people did it do the dieseling more than once? How is the battery? Will it turn over if you bypass the solenoid with a screwdriver?
@@Larsterlarster2010 I tried turning it off it wouldn't then it just turn off I can turn the key the light and dash come on but wont turn over
Truth my people This from VTX forum "You can bypass the start switch (and every other safty switch) by jumping it across the two large bolts at the starter relay (under the rubber boot). Careful though...this applies current straight to the starter and bypasses all the saftey switches....so make sure your in neutral or you'll be rolling :shock: Maybe get you by untill the switch comes in." Do this with the key on, if that won't turn it over you may have a battery issue
