What is that chord that is beat on? Some places I see it shown as some E7#9(no5th) played like (high to low) x8767X but playing that against the record does not sound right. It sounds like the Hendrix E7#9 that is played but some kind of inversion perhaps on beefheart's record.

Well, the song, which I did not write, can be seen as a hard satire on how government and power think. The opening words are "Efficiency and progress is ours once a-more, now that we have the neutron bomb, it's nice and quick and clean and gets things done. Away with excess enemy, with no less value to property, all systems go to kill the poor tonight!" In other words, policy which may result in millions of deaths is spun as simply an increase in efficiency and a boon to the economy, not as genocide. Kind of like the U.S. government. In short, yes, it's a comedy routine. And comedy, as Steve Martin noted, is not pretty.

Very interesting to watch this film, especially the wedding scene. I imagine there are many sources where one can learn about the film's context. I recommend "The Yiddish Cinema in American Life" by Goldman, which is in a very interesting collection of essays entitled "Yiddish in America" edited by Edward S. Shapiro.

Am watching this as I stroll thru a mans diary from 1938 I found in the attic of an old farmhouse in California and listening to and watching things he mentions he saw with friends on particular days. This one said, ' (Saturday March 26 1938) Worked some and Jack and I cleaned and polished the Ford. Lucille and I saw Molly Picon(?) in a Yiddle and his Fiddle at the Esquire. It was really good". Just thought I'd share a moment in a man's nearly forgotten life.
