We did a one night backpacking trip to summit North and South Kinsman. We hiked up to the Kinsman Pond Shelter and grabbed a tent platform for the night. The next day we packed up and headed to the summits. We dropped our heavier packs along the way and took the essentials with us in smaller backpacks. On the way back we grabbed our larger packs and headed back down. Overall it was a great expe...
Shenandoah National Park | Rose River Falls Loop | Easy Short Hike
Просмотров 1013 года назад
Amy and I had a short timeframe to spend in Shenandoah National Park so we elected to do the Rose River Loop hike. This, less than 4 mile hike, was pretty amazing. Even though it was a little past peak the colors were still very beautiful! For a large portion of the hike you're hiking alongside a small river and there are many smaller cascades along the way. Definitely need to get back to this ...

We hiked Cannon Mountain adding to our quest for the 48 4k footers. We went up Hi Cannon trail up to the summit and came down Lonesome Lake trail. A really great hike. The ~3/4 of a mile going down Kinsman Ridge trail to Lonesome Lake trail was pretty steep. We really took our time in that section.
Massachusetts Midstate Trail Section 4 | Oxford to Charlton

Amy and I completed another section of our Midstate Trail through hike. This section went from Rocky Hill Road in Oxford to Old Worcester Road in Charlton [Approximately 5 miles]. This was a very diverse section. We encountered trails, gravel roads, paved roads, and power line service roads. As we entered the power line section Amy got a quick glimpse of a snake and that set the tone for this a...

My daughter Sarah was visiting so why not go climb a mountain. Decided on Mt. Moosilauke. It's a moderate hike and around 7 miles. Even though it was overcast, the views were amazing. Temps at the base were low 50's while the summit was in the mid-low 40's with a bit of a strong breeze. The cooler temps made for an enjoyable hike, but we were a little chilly on the summit.

I have an article from 1955 explaining the crash. It was thought, at the time, that the plane had crashed into the reservoir. It indeed was a Lockheed F-94(B) Starfire fighter plane - not that I am by any stretch an air force/ military person - this is what the article states. 26 year old Lt. Dewey Durrett [arachuted safely after ejecting from the plane April 3, 1955, due to low fuel and a snow storm (squall?). He landed on Prescott Peninsula, and walked 2 hours before reaching a road. I have a fragment of an article dated April 17, 1958, where they discovered a 4ft fuel tank. I do not have enough of the article to determine if this was found at the actual crash site, as the article states they "went in a patrol boat to examine the 4 ft. length of tank". Anyone familiar with the crash site knows it's easier to get to the site by driving/walking, not by boat. On a completely different topic, the lane you walked up went to the Isaac Doane home site, cellar hole still intact, not far from the crash site. House shown on 1897 map (under Alfred, Isaac's son), but was probably gone not much longer after.
Wow, I'm amazed at the perspective on some of those shots. How long is your selfie stick? 😄
😂Extends to nearly 10 feet, but a lot of the perspective is done in post where having 360 footage offers a lot of options. Thanks for watching!
Nice video. What camera did you use?
Used an Insta360 X4. Fun little camera. Definitely gives some interesting perspectives.
@@KenKohls thanks!
That is So Awesome ♥️
Glad you enjoyed it.
This is so cool! Definitely gotta go here
Definitely worth the trip.
Have a double *trip typo. My bad 😂
Good choice of roads. I live in Clinton and know all the roads you rode. Very good route and it must have been a blast.
Went there last weekend. Such a huge area. People must have removed the recognizable parts like altimeter gauges a long time ago.
Keep making videos, love your energy!! Don't miss out > Promo'SM!!
Haha, Fliberty - I like that. Glad to see the video from you. 🙂
Thanks. I’m a little late on the editing. Need to get out more often.
You introduced yourselves at the beginning, so you can keep the camera on the trail for now on. We are here to see....THE TRAIL... That would be great. I have been to Lonesome Lake more times than I can count, but, never took the Hi Canon trail to get there. So it was good that you showed parts of it. It's funny how each hiker rates it a bit differently; but they all say it's a steady up hill. Believe me you really can show the trail and talk at the same time. Especially if you trade in the stick for a go-pro chest strap.
Thank you for the feedback. Yeah, I'm still trying to find that balance of trail/scenic video and talking head shots. Happy hiking!
So I got another question and its about hiking poles again in this video are you using regular trekking poles or ski poles because I feel like trekking poles will just punch through the snow, like I said on a different video been building a kit just tryna get it right lol
The poles I’m using are standard hiking poles, but I have the snow baskets attached. This makes them function like ski poles and helps prevents from punching straight through the snow. Some hiking poles come with these baskets while others you may have to purchase separately.
are those walking sticks worth it I did franconia ridge yesterday and backpack was not it lol but I didnt even finish the whole loop because we got there at like 1pm ended up being dark on our last 2 river crossings
I use them a lot. They help take some of the weight off the legs and definitely help with the knees on the descents. The mountains will always be there so you’ll just need to go back and enjoy them again. Thanks for watching.
What exit is this trail on?
Just cuz I know the notch got like 5 exits
We parked at the Old Bridle Path Trailhead parking lot on the North bound side of I-93. You could also park at the Lafayette Place Campground lot on the south bound side. There are other ways to get to this trail, but that’s the area where we started from.
@@KenKohls Since there is no longer parking on the road, thank God, what we do is park at the general store at Lafayette place and ask what campsites are open. There are usually 3 or 4. We snag a site, then we have plenty of room, with picnic table, to put our boots on, get our gear together, visit the bath house and load our sandwiches in our backpack without having to dodge cars zooming around the parking lot trying to find a parking space. The cost is about $25. It makes the decent so much calmer also. Get the boots off, change into sneakers and just chill without people asking: "Are you leaving?" well yes but don't hold your breath. We're "chillin. If we wanted, we could make a fire and cook a burger. Just saying. Great idea if with a group you don't get to visit with too often, kind of stretch the day into evening. Some people in your group could pitch a tent for the night. We have not done that since we have a campsite in Littleton with our Winnebago Mini Drop. Winnie.
@@roxannegordon2854 This is an excellent idea and I will certainly consider this for future trips! Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
I was out there today!! There’s not much left
Awww.. I hope people aren’t removing pieces. That would be a shame. Thanks for watching the video. Hope you had as much fun out there as I did.
@@KenKohls it’s a nice hike.. did you find the grave off the common?
I did not. I guess more reason to go back out there. Bet it’s pretty this time of year.
He's back! Lotta folks at Kinsman Pond? I camped there August 2021 on a Friday and had to place to myself. They didn't have that fancy blue tarp over the kitchen so maybe I came between caretakers. Next time you're up there, head to Black Mtn Burger Co in Lincoln. Fantastic grub.
Yep. Been awhile since I made any videos. Feel pretty out of practice 😂 There weren’t a ton of people there. We had our pick of platforms, but they were eventually all taken by the end of the day. A group of AT through hikers were there. I’ve heard great things about Black Mtn Burger. It’s definitely on the list for post hike food/beverage.
Loved the trail info! 🤩
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching. I gotta get back out there soon. Been too long.
Nice hike. Take care 👍
It's creepy this has 666 views
I guess I need more subscribers for more views. 😜 Thanks for watching.
What is name of the trail?
We were on the South Rim Trail.
I'll be visiting for the 1st time March 2022.
You’ll enjoy it immensely! Have a safe trip and lots of fun!!
@@KenKohls thanks I plan on spending two days at the canyon. I'm hoping the weather is clear. I want to stay long enough for the sun to go down and see it at night as well.
Grand Canyon south rim it's such an awesome place. Wife and I've been there two times. Trying to talk her into going again. Central Texas is kind of a long drive but it's well worth it
It certainly is worth the trip. Can’t wait to get back there. I think next time we’ll hike down into the canyon.
Beautiful place. In Virginia? Another NP I need to check out.
Yep. Western Virginia. So beautiful there. The AT runs right through the park. The Skyline drive was pretty great too. I believe it is (or is at least connected to) part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We definitely want to go back and explore more.
Doing this trail this weekend with the family…looks like we will need to go slow at the top..We are cheating and taking the tram up…
Tram up and hike down? That’s a pretty awesome plan. Should be beautiful up there. Yes, the section up top is steep in areas. Just take your time and stay in whatever your comfort zone is and you’ll be fine. Enjoy your bike!
That’s some beautiful country. Nifty shot with the grass circle. 👍🏼
Certainly is beautiful. Has made the list of potential retirement spots in many many many many many … years from now
Hi-Cannon is a great trail. Love that one.
It was a lot of fun and the ladder really isn’t that bad. I must say, it’s not blazed very well. We ended up going a little off trail a couple times.
Great Job.
Thank you! It was a great hike!
Awesome 😎 views on your hike 😃
Thanks. We certainly enjoyed them. Looking forward to many more.
Does that trail continue on past the visitor center? Does it meet up with all the other stops that the red bus takes? I feel that’s a better way to see the sites instead of the bus.
The south rim trail is pretty long. The path at a minimum covers the orange, blue, and red line buses. Plenty of walking can be done. Here is a link the to pocket guide map of the south rim area. www.nps.gov/grca/learn/news/upload/sr-pocket-map.pdf
@@KenKohls thanks. Any other trails you recommend
@@jaredrobertson1955 if you want to hike down into the canyon a bit there the Bright Angel Trail which is very popular. It has rest stops and water along the way. Not knowing what your hiking experience is, you’ll definitely want to do some research before venturing down into the canyon.
How were the crowds? Was this recent?
We did this on May 15, 2021. We got to the parking lot around 7:30am and it wasn’t too bad. However, by about 9ish or so the crowds did pick up and there were quite a few people there.
Would that trail be suitable to push someone in a wheelchair on? And can you then get a shuttle bus to take you back to where you started? We are planning on taking a bus tour to the south rim from Las Vegas next May.
So, yes. The south rim trail is accessible. Where the trail gets a little narrow they have a wider path for wheelchairs/strollers. When we were there they didn’t have the Blue bus route running due to COVID. I’m sure that’ll be running by then (if it’s not already) and that would get you back to where you started. Enjoy your trip. It is amazing there.
You didn’t go to the other Summit?
We went to the actual summit and also the area just off the summit where all the views are. Is there another area we missed?
@@KenKohls nope, nvm. Nice!
I’ve hiked sunrises all through the White Mountains, the best sunrise I have ever seen on a mountain was this mountain. How was the sunset?
Sunset was beautiful. Add the fact that it’s a relatively short hike and it’s a great spot. Thanks for watching.
@@KenKohls I attempted a sunset last night but of course it got insanely foggy.
looks like a fun time!
It was.. a great group of people!
Great job!
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
Its fun to see the different sections your taking. I am not a road walker but if I was this would be one of my choices. Love the 360
At least there were a few nice things to see along the way. The 360 is a lot of fun. Makes for some interesting post production options. Thanks for watching!
Looks like a nice place to get out for a day hike. I have never been to Massachusetts yet so thanks for sharing the area with me. I saw you on another hiking channel and wanted to come over and checks yours out. Glad I did, looking forward to seeing more videos.
Thanks for checking out my channel. I’m itching to get out soon and enjoy the outdoors. It’s fun to share the experience with others.
I would plant some type of hedge fencing
Some tall ones for sure!

I really like to do hiking and exploring nature..Thank you for sharing..loved from Sri Lanka
Hey uncle Ken. This video is great. It would be great to go hiking with you at some point in the future. The view looks absolutely amazing and it looks like a lot of fun. Seeing this from the heat of Florida makes me jealous. I wish you the best
Nice video . What editor ?
Mainly Premiere Pro. I was having some issues with the Reframe plugin for Premiere Pro in handling the 360 video clips so I edited those in the Intsta360 studio software and just imported them into Pro.
This is beautiful. A perfect blanket of snow!
Nice job! 👍
Thank you!
Pretty awesome video! Y'all get some serious snow up there. Thanks for sharing!
That we certainly do!
