Powder days often mean slow roads, big traffic delays, long lines, and other obstacles, all of which conspire against the corraling of cats. If you wait for your friends to show up, get dressed, put on their boots, buy their ski pass, go ...

The other reason they use the old style hand saws to drop trees is they are limited on how many times they can use machinery like chain saws 4 wheelers helicopters etc so they save those machine interference for bigger emergencies like fires or search and rescue oddly enough you could in theory drop something from a helicopter and it doesn't count unless the helicopter touches the ground my crew boss was just talking about using those saws when he used to work for the US forrest service

Nice video, did that hike one time. (Up from Big Meadows) If you want an even better one way hike park at Big Meadows and have someone drop you off at Lobo Overlook up above Wolf Creek Pass near the CD signs and take tge trailhead out from behind the big radio tower and hike down to Big Meadows, approx 16 miles you can do it in a day, mostly downhill, and see several other lakes. Also, juming on the CDT and going up Hope Mtn just above Archulata Lake is worth the views.

Thanks for watching. Collins backback fully loaded with water and food was about 35 pounds. My backpack is generally a little lighter than than. we could have done this particular trip with less items in our packs as there is water stations and bathrooms along the way. Also a restaurant at the bottom could help carry less food!
