Inspired by a selection from John Wesley's Tuesday morning prayer.

If we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, then why should we engage in the means of grace? John Wesley addressed this in his sermon "The Means of Grace" with the emphasis that we wait for grace (which God can give at any time and in any way, apart from what we do) by preparing to receive the grace we wait for God to give.

Drawing upon several scriptural references and images, the aim of our hearts as disciples of Jesus Christ is revealed through simplicity and sincerity as we love God and our neighbors.

Romans 8:16 How do we know if it is the Holy Spirit, or just our imagination, that we are forgiven, saved, led, and formed by God? John Wesley dealt with this question in his sermon "The Witness of the Spirit." This is my interpretation of the main ideas, set out as a hymn, in the sermon.

Based on John Wesley's sermon "A Spirit of Bondage and of Adoption," we try to hide our sins (fig leaf imagery) from ourself, God, and others. Yet by grace God's provides, we can know our sins, find forgiveness, and become disciples of Jesus Christ.

I believe that, sometimes, a prayer is more likely to be used if it is sung. This is based on a prayer from Kenya, a prayer with many echoes in the prayers of John Wesley. It is a prayer seeking truth that we are afraid to receive, truth beyond the half-truths that confirm our biases, and the truth we cannot see because we are not looking for it (nor see the need to look for it.)

Based on Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire," this is a fun way to cover (very briefly!) the Bible stories. While RUclips will likely run ads so that Mr. Joel can be compensated for his music, I am posting this only for the satisfaction of sharing the Story!

The true religion of Methodists, according to John Wesley in his sermon "The Way to the Kingdom," is summarized in this new hymn. Note: it is not a claim to THE true religion, but to what is true about how Methodists are called to live as disciples.

Disciples of Jesus Christ live by grace, responding in love to God and our neighbors. This hymn shares how grace calls us to love!

Romans 4:5 We are saved by grace through faith, and yet we often expect others to be "good enough" for us to offer them this same grace which was extended to us. This hymn helps us to sing the affirmation that we are saved, not because we are good, but because God is good!

Hope is an essential part of being a disciple of Jesus Christ, as we work and pray for "they kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven" affirming that we believe that God has better things to come!

In John Wesley's sermon "Salvation by Faith," he declares the good news of God's grace through Jesus Christ, and then deals with why people object to grace being available to sinners. This new hymn shares those objections, and how the gospel affirms that it is by grace that we become good, not that we must be good in order to receive grace.
