This sub, SS 249 was the USS Flasher. Flasher was the only US sub to officially be credited with sinking over 100,000 tons of enemy shipping. I placed the second Flasher in commission in 1966 and at commissioning the last commanding officer of this sub, George Grider, presented the WW II subs battle flag to us and it hung in our Crewsmess for all the crew to see.

By far, this is the best looking Gato class Sub I have seen. I love the colors, bottom paint and especially the rust. Spot on, looks as real as it can be. I received this model last week and received all the Photo etch upgrades yesterday. Many questions about when did one sub have what colors? Did they have propeller guards. When did they have bottom paint? Mostly the early ones built in 1941-42? No two subs were alike. I like this version.... this is the version I'm going to do for a museum with all the photo etch upgrades I can. Honestly....... who is going to know the difference???? If they do know, then ask them to show you. I build models for museums fulltime, 28 years now. Trust me, Only one out of a million people might know some of the differences. That's a good thing because now they might be able to SHOW YOU PROOF!!!
