Apple Blossoms at Dawn - An Oil Painting Meditation
Просмотров 35914 дней назад
Beneath the soft glow of an amber horizon, the orchard awakens, cloaked in whispers of mist and blossoming light. The apple trees, their limbs gnarled with age yet adorned with delicate petals, stretch towards the dawning day, cradled by an emerald carpet that hums with life. The air shimmers, alive with the interplay of golden warmth and cool verdant shadows-a fleeting moment of balance betwee...

I've conducted many workshops around the globe and inevitably there will always be one student who grabs the palette backwards! I don't know what it is, and there is now SHAME involved here, but it happens:) Now there is a video telling you how to hold an artist's palette.

In this demonstration via Pochade Palette, Michael Klein goes through part by part explaining how he thinks through a painting and reimagines what he was looking at from life. Sometimes we don't get the chance to snap a photograph when working from a life model and here he shows you how to continue despite not having a reference. The Art of Connection by Ardie Son
I love your observations and reminders. Have been thinking about feeling evoked over purely technical skill.
The pre mixing you do on your palette makes so much sense, thank you 🎨
Thank you for all that you do, a valuable meditation. I think Fantin rises above other artists for these reasons and has an ability to render his subjects in such a way they become more real because he’s painted our earliest responses to them as children, he captures our surprise and all of our senses as if we see it for the first time and then our memories conjure the fragrance , the taste the texture the delicacy the transience the beauty and he gave it as a gift with total humility. It’s a favourite painting
Incredibly, a few weeks ago I made a master copy of this work, in my painting classes and I learned a lot from what you mention in the video, thanks for sharing.
beautiful painting and beautiful words, thanks!
Beautiful piece! I remember doing a master copy of this one 15 years ago when I was first learning to paint
Been looking at this particular painting for about a week as I practice composition. I could never tire of Fantin-Latour. I enjoy your comments, especially on his humility; he is able to make everything he paints beautiful because he knows it already is.
Beautiful video on such an amazing artist, thank you.
Twoje malarstwo jest zachwycajace
Peonies are my favourite flowers, pink or white. I deeply love them. At my sense they are rather mystical ! I am used to admire peonies decorations or in paintings especially in chinese handcrafts and paintings or wooden sculptures in architecture decoration. Today, I have to say you expressed the nature of peonies in a very subtle way of painting to the point of translating the life in them with dynamic touches. You have also succeeded, through blurred and prolonged touches, in letting the materiality of the flower rise above, the performance of suggesting its fragrance as much as the spiritual aspect of his nature. This is how your painting is for me like an echo of the love I have for these flowers ! Thanks ✨
Thank you Jasmine!
Beautiful Michael
Thanks!
Czy z takim darem się urodziłeś? Czy to lata pracy ?:))) Pięknie namalowane, pięknie opisane . Pozdrawiam serdecznie. Were you born with this gift? Or is it years of work?:))) Beautifully painted, beautifully described. Warmest regards.
@@chaconne0488 a little of both, thanks! 🙏🏻
The real question is, did Bob Ross hold his palette correctly? 😂😉
The beauty of painting a whispering calm!
Very pleasant and peaceful atmosphere. I also like the way you painted it, touch and palette choice ✨. My best wishes for the next year 🌟😃🎉
Yeah, happy 2025!
What a cute and fun video to watch! It also helped me to see how you have the Pochade Palette set up and how easy it is to just go out and sketch. Were you painting on a panel or paper? Had you planned on painting the ducks before you left to go outside, or did it just occur to you when you went outside? Thanks for sharing your process <3
yes, I was definitely planning on sketching them. I take care of the animals everyday and often watch them and sometimes paint. This time my wife filmed the live video.
For the first 4 minutes in I stared at this video trying to figure out what the red and black thing on your pallet was. 😂
ha ha! that's funny. I thought about not using it but I almost always have gloves on nowadays. It's rare that I'm painting with my right hand without a glove.
That was fun to watch and calming, and must of been challenging but you did great!
@@TheHottuna66 thanks Miles!! Yeah it’s tough but I do them for fun more than anything.
Mr. Klein, this is unlike anything I've seen from you in the past as regards your palette set-up. Have you changed your approach altogether, or just for this painting? Also, why do you usually put your yellows on the other side of white? Beautiful work as always.
Yes, I arranged the palette closer to the visible spectrum of light. So the wave lengths of color correspond to the way colors flow into one another from that perspective, hope that makes sense.
@@michaelkleinpochadepalette Ahh yes I see now, that does make sense. Thank you!
I’d like to see the entire process of this painting….is it available?
not this one in particular but I have a lot of demos on patreon
Color values are exceptional here, those shadow colors make the painting. Thanks!
Thanks so much
Amazing!
Hello, allow me to offer my own opinion on the study of glazing in order to clear up the great confusion surrounding a practice which, once understood, is quite simple. For me, there are two ways to apply it, and several expected effects. The first (most common) of which is the enamel itself. It is always applied in the shadows or dark parts of the work. Its goal, through the play of transparency, is to modify the intensity, or the nuance of the color on which it is applied without covering it completely: it is in no way a question of repentance. This method of glazing always darkens the color it is applied to; and depending on the effects we wish to obtain, this can sometimes be similar to Leonardo da Vinci's sfumato. It is always applied in thin layers. The second method consists of applying a naturally opaque color or by making it opaque with white or even applying pure white in order to accentuate the lights on the lightest parts of your painting such as the petals of your flowers in your demonstration for ex. We must then speak more of vélature (Vélatura, smoke in Italian), than of glaze. They provide luminous accents: shine of jewelry, glass, metal, etc. Or again, they envelop the subjects in an evanescent veil, an effect of fog, of opalescence: the veils of virgins, in ancient paintings, were painted in this way as well as the lace of certain garments.
Thank you Michael you have a way of teaching. You gave me a new understanding of Munsell too.
Extremely beautiful, love all the brush strokes ❤️ 😍
Learning a lot from you--also just kind of love how you'll be totally focused on something small and very reflexive and focused and then you feel something and do something really bold--some real passion in there along with that very calm voice.
I always learn from being able to observe you work. Thank you for sharing Michael.
This is the worst tutorial I’ve ever seen. your pallet has a million different colors and tones on it from years of work. You talk in circles. No explanation of the colors you use, if you are using any kind of medium and you title it “for beginners “ 😂 I hope your Patron is a hell of a lot more informative than this mess
😂😘
so once this dries, will you scrape the flowers down and then go in for a second layer?
You can do anything you want really. I ended this particular piece “as is” for a demo, there are a few other videos on here that illustrate how to continue painting on something once it is dry.
Leaves are so difficult , why ?
Good question, probably the character of the shape. Leaves are thin so there is a lot of perspective issues as well, nature is always complex and pretty much anything is difficult in the end.
@ is there anyway you can view some of my work and then get back with me with your opinions on what may be my weaknesses ? I do work indirectly, but I also like to do wet into wet.
Your brush technique is wonderful.
So Beautifully done ❤ Thank you for sharing your process! This could apply to so many subjects.
Thank you Michael.
Thank you for position, I hope you would talk some about if you were using turps vs medium as the painting progressed. I took a class recently that talked about using the damvar linseed oil and turps, but a friend told me the damvar would eat my brushes and it seems to be true.
Watching you paint is poetry
Great demo just a bit too slow 😊
I don't understand the point of painting a photograph. The camera has already done the painting for you.
It’s a good point, you should never work from photographs. But I will.
@@michaelkleinpochadepalette Have you ever thought about refrigerating your flowers in between sessions to keep them alive?

Love this painting, this could be most days. The beauty is in it being so natural!
Thanks, nice observation
