ALBA SBD KIT INSTALL AND DYNO
Просмотров 16 тыс.3 года назад
We install the ALBA SBD Kit on a Yamaha YXZ 1000R SS SE....what HP numbers will it make?
Did you ever do street tires to get real numbers?
Why didnt you strap the lower frame when installing like everyone else. Is it better to leave the lower frame in a natural state?
We jack up the YXZ in the center just enough to release the tension. When taking off the factory cage you’ll know when you’re in the sweet spot as it will lift off with ease. Leave the jacket in that spot and assemble your cage.
@theyamigos everything is still lined up properly. Doors close normal etc..
@@nyarnell1 yup, worked out perfect, we did the same process on 2 of them.
2" wheel spacers all around or some extra offset wheels really helps the stability of these narrow cars. Also, you have to always keep the wheels spinning in the sand. The moment you let off in a turn, the sand bites and you roll. This roll is 100% driver error, at least it was in an easy spot where minimal damage was done, great opportunity to learn before getting into bigger and trickier situations.
Actually if you listen the video, full throttle is applied until it starts to tip over. This was later resolved due to too high of spring rates in the rear shocks which caused the back end to buck too quickly after compression. So sorry I disagree with your assessment. :)
@theyamigos you can apply full throttle and be in the wrong gear in the yxz. -still driver error. Also, the wrong move, letting off the throttle when you start to tip, still driver error. Age old idiom, when in doubt throttle out. You aren't going to roll on a tiny dune and say it was anything besides the driver here. Back to my original statement, you got to keep the wheels spinning, which with the yxz means be in the correct gear. 1st gear churns sand, if you were in the throttle churning sand there wouldn't have been a rollover. I live at the dunes, own a yxz, been riding sand dunes for nearly 2 decades, you're really not going to convince me otherwise, but you can try.
@theyamigos also, you have straight paddle which tends to slide out on turns so if you were churning sand is again less likely to stick and roll. Anyone with dune experience is going to back me up on all my points.
@@preston1614 LOL....okay so nobody has ever tipped over while doing doughnuts? As I mentioned before this was the first time out with new springs that where too heavy and caused the car to unload to rapidly. I quickly changed the springs when I got back home and it's been good ever since, without changing how I drive. Also, this car makes 390HP to the wheels and was coming up on boost...I was having fun and still do....you can call it driver error if having fun is an error. Do you have a 390HP YXZ? Is your car setup the same as mine? I don't think so. This really does take the cake though, I've heard of backseat driving but never comment driving. ROFL!
@theyamigos the yxz is oversprung in the rear so all aftermarket springs are sprung less than factory which is the opposite of what you said. My yxz is factory power which means it's much more important to drive correctly because the sand is less forgiving to lower power machines. I would accept that you were in-between boost which would make sense, but again that would boil down to driver error. Got to keep the wheels spinning in a turn. Lol. But thanks, something more to talk about this weekend at the dunes. I'll be at little sahara Oklahoma in a orange 16 yxz tomorrow and next weekend. Been here nearly every weekend for past few months. Dune season is almost over. I lease a lot at Chucks near North camp if your around, come ride.
I need the instructions? Mine didn’t come with them and you said in the video you were gonna post the instructions but I can’t find them. I’m on my phone. It’s for the rear springs. I need the starting setting for the rings to get them close
Did you watch the video? It is around the 2 min mark.
Wow 😮
Great video man! What rim and tire you have on there?
He should feel a different. If not, he doesn’t know what the feel for. Adding horsepower ain’t cheap.
I learned SFA from that.
lol! A little more info please, gentlemen...
Would you happen to have a link or part# for the blue fender? I've been wanting to replace mine, but can only find plastics on Yamaha oem sites, like partzilla that want $300+ for a new fender.
Instead of using XTR as the model when looking up the part, use the base model and you’ll see it. The black ones are the most expensive you can get yellow, blue and even the tan one from 2022 is way less than the black ones.
Man that's devastating. I sent my shocks to Weller for a full-service w/ dual rate springs set up for sand only and it's amazing.
Really diggin your channel and sorry for your loss! Three takeaways from this video: 1. I'm installing an easily accessible battery disconnect 2. Buying a set of 4 ramps lol, That's genius 3. Add a second fire extinguisher. Keep up the great videos! "Little nut sack" HAHAHA
Thanks, glad you enjoy it. The rebuild is almost complete and I’ll upload a video of the final product when done. One piece of advice would be to get a halon fire extinguisher, far more efficient and will not leave residue all over everything. They are spendy, but a lot less money than rebuilding a burnt SxS.

@@theyamigos 👍🏻
Do you have any mud/water issues with the engine so low and exposed?
No, but we don’t take it underwater either. We have had them as deep as covering the wheels but not any deeper than that.
I just bought a spring kit and I think the measurements are wrong I have a 2019 with the RC 2 shocks the problem is the front shocks . Instruction say 5” pre load and set the cross over ring at 5 1/4 there’s not enough room Mybe I have the wrong springs could you let me know your thoughts
At the 2 min mark of the video I have a screen shot of the settings. For stock arm RC2 shocks you should have preload at 3.5" and crossover at 4"...if you have the HD spring kit! part number 10070
Also as a note....I swapped out the HD rears for Standard only on the long spring. It was way too stiff otherwise. I ended up making adjustments to the whole setup. So what I ended up doing was jacking the vehicle entirely off the ground with tires still on. I then backed off the preload all the way until the springs had slack. I then put about a 1/4" to 1/2" preload on the springs, just enough to make sure the springs will not be too loose on full extension. I then set the crossover with the same tolerances as recommended which is 1/2" in the front and 2" in rear. I set my shocks in the middle settings on everything and adjust depending on the terrain. Hope this helped! Let me know if you have any questions.
How did those springs feel?
So I ended up with running the short track long springs with the long travel short spring in the rear and was much better. I also took some preload out of the springs all around and it’s even better.
Well if the kit adds 30% more power would that not be more like 110 HP?
Great video! Love the helmet cam and raw audio 😎
What turbo kit and how much boost?
Look at his older videos
1st man, Ben is soooo DREAMY.
Great mod for the money. It's a different machine after this!
That’s so much work I’m very impressed
The washing was great!! I love watching car washing videos. You are extremely detailed with cleaning! Love it. Chicago Auto Pros is one of my go-to for cleaning.
Cheers from Oregon (Grant County). Nothin' but good "CLEAN" fun. Can't wait to get a YXZ for myself.
Crawl box on the yamaha?
No crawl boxes on any of ours.....yet. :)
@@theyamigos In your opinion does the machine need it for the rough/technical trails. Have fun, be safe, Good Luck to You and Yours.
@@liljohnp132 In my opinion the only time I would like a crawl box is if I was doing extreme rock crawling...very large boulder situation where you are often off camber and a delicate throttle is needed. Other than that I haven't seen a need for it. I recently came across wishing I had one (sorry didn't film it, will start filming new content soon) we went down a trail called Boulder Alley and the rocks where spaced enough that you couldn't go between them and had to go over them. It was very challenging and my buddy broke 2 tie rods at the same time on that trail. So anywhere that you need delicate throttle and power control then the crawl box would be ideal.....along with 1/2" skids plates, upgraded steering rack and tie rods. :)
@@theyamigos Great info , The YXZ is my dream machine. My brother and several friends/family have side by sides and when I get one it will be the YXZ Yammer Jammer. Thanks a lot for the response, I look forward to future vids , I'm subbing now. LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL.🏁
at the wheels...lol awesome
I found a Air intake by dirt launch, What do you think about that. Could it be combinated with this Alba Kit?
How has your set up held after almost 6 months

@@theyamigos bummer John from JTE and I are heading up there. Would have been really cool to see another JTE equipped car up there. Have a good one next time

Nice. You have a link for the rubber moulding on the bottom of you're windshield? I had a couple but never fit good. Thanks so much.
I use to have the rear Yamaha polycarbonate rear that obviously doesn’t work with the aftermarket cage. It came with the rubber molding on it that I used for the front lower. There are similar products on Amazon that might work. Search for “Automotive weather stripping top bulb” they have it in various heights.
Mind if I ask what's the displacement of the engine? Is it the one out of the MT9?...
It’s a 998cc similar to the Viper Snowmobile

Will do, have some rides planned soon!
“ She is extremely dirty…” - *laughs in east coast trail mud*
Lol, yeah I realized after I said it. Typically way worse when I’m up in mountain trails. But sand can be a PIA constantly chasing it around.
Mine has the same set up and it feels like it slipping the clutch in forth and fifth when I'm really getting on it on hill ? Sure would like to have seen the final numbers thanks for the video
Me too, we couldn't get the dyno for the stock pass and still have enough time to get all the mods done. We reached out to all of our local contacts and couldn't find any "dyno or street" tires to put on it either. We honestly tried very hard to get it all done, but we don't own the dyno and the person that does snuck us in between his customers. On your clutch slip....we came across that even on our stock setup as well. Have you ever had that thing stuck and working the gas with no movement? Did you smell some clutch at any point? If so you may want to change out the clutch discs. We found if they even get slightly burnt they will slip. It's an easy job and I've done it at camp, just make sure to align the tabs correctly in the basket. Also make sure to use the recommend YamaLube oil and change it frequently. If the fluid smells burnt or has a lot of clutch material in it, it is most likely smoked. In my Turbo YXZ SS we put a Manual clutch kit in it and was able to add 2 more frictions and still maintain the stock pack height. Plus the manual clutch steels are dimpled as opposed to the SS smooth steels, this will hold more oil and assist in grip. The only downside is that when you warm it up and first put it in gear it will kill the machine, but once you restart, it's fine for the rest of the day. Maybe I should do a video on that the next time I service the clutch, what do you think?
Are you using a blow off valve ?
No, I have the wastegate
@@theyamigos one more question what muffler is that, I got a cheap Amazon one now that’s way to loud, core done blew out
@@jevsrt Vibrant Performance 1061 it's loud when you get up in the RPM's. Ask as many questions as you want, no worries.
@@theyamigos not being rude but I would think you’d know the difference between the 2
@@Sandeep9201 Yes I do, which is why I don't run a BOV. The reason is I'm typically in throttle all the way or a slight flutter when doing turns or other maneuvers. By not running a BOV I reduce turbo lag when I blip the throttle, instead of dumping it and then needing to recharge it. Are there some risk to damage the turbo....maybe but this isn't a China turbo either. :)
Just turbo it.
Look at our other videos and you will see the turbo
Hey man...wanted to say how much I enjoy your vids. Video and audio quality is very good, info is solid, no gimmicks. Keep em coming
