    Father I'm a 19 year old that has been looking into Orthodoxy. I come from a Non practicing catholic family. I'm from Spain and I've been wanting to attend the divine liturgy for some time now, but I get scared that the people might judge me and tht I will be so disoriented. I want to come with the upmost respect and I fear being looked down upon. I don't know what to wear or how to conduct myself. I dont know why I feel like I wont be accepted, or that I dont belong there. Also I fear not coming back to the church and making true the assumtions that new converts or inquirers tend to leave the faith. I care too much about whats others think, that's why I too fear telling people in my circle that I want to follow Christ. I should be brave and follow him regardless of what people are going to say about me and view me, but I still am fearful. I discovered orthodoxy through my partner who is Greek Orthodox, and even I am fearful of telling him I want to enter the church. Imagine the irrationality of my fear. I feel like he is going o judge me too. I'm just fearful in general and I hate that I am. Such and irrational fear and still I struggle to get rid of it. Do you have any advice on how to conquere this fear? I sometimes come close to, and then i hide behind my fear again. That was longer than I expected, sorry. Thank you for reading. ❤️‍🩹🙏🏾

    The Orthodox Church is the only church I've ever seen that is truly ethnically diverse And truly treats every person, regardless of ethnicity and gender, with respect. The church i attend now is hime to people of at least 12 distinct ethnicities, many are first generation Americans.

      If possible, call and talk with the priest of the parish you want to visit. There are several videos of an Orthodox Divine Liturgy service that will show you what to expect on your first visit. There is usually a coffee hour (agape meal) after the service. Go and talk to a couple of welcoming members (and there ought to be some!). Learning and making a decision about Orthodoxy will take more than one quick visit. Go a few times. If you are currently living under your parents' roof, obey them. If you show a strong desire to learn about the faith, they may relent and let you go to a service. Better still, they may attend with you.

    I also converted to orthodoxy after looking for the true church for decades, only to find it at a grocery store as a hermit monk who passed out in my arms from fasting started talking to me about God's church, and one year later, after religious instructions, I became orthodox.

    What is Blasefamy of the holy spirit ? Why do we need the Church to interpert scripture and does this mean we should not read the bible at Home because we cant interpret it for our self ? How does one gain salvation in the orthodox Church ? We does tradition play a part in orthodoxy ? And do you have a book called the triodion or “the book of odes “

    • @fr.deaconjohngresham7650
      @fr.deaconjohngresham7650 Месяц назад

      Let me begin with the last question. 1. I don't know of the Book of Odes or The Triodion. The Lenten Triodion is the three Sundays before the Great Fast. There probably is a book with the same title somewhere though. 2. There is "Tradition" and "tradition." The "T" consist of things that cannot and ought not change about our faith, such as there are only four Gospels or celebrating Pascha according to the cannon and not of a modern calendar. The "t" can be changed according to conditions such as using English instead of Arabic or Greek. 3. One doesn't "gain" what Christ has freely given. We must choose whether or not to live in our salvation. "Gaining salvation" can't be done. 4. Everyone can, and should, read the Bible. But scripture is not for private interpretation (2 Peter 1:20-21). We trust what the first generations of Christians who sat beside the Apostles said about scripture more than modern scholars or prophets. 5. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:22-32) is the rejection of God's total authority over evil to protect our own authority. Notice how the Pharisees knew Jesus healed the demon posessed man and still rejected the miracle. To admit He did it would be to confess that Christ is greater than themselves. I hope this is helpful. God Bless.

    It is my pleasure to have been - as a white men - a student and a servant of the African church and the Eastern church for many years. I admire the willingness of African Orthodox christians to follow Christ no matter the price they have to pay. There are hundreds of thousands of Christians in Egypt that have to make a living with the most dirty work because they do NOT betray Christ for a better living. Let us keep in mind John 15 verse 20: "Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also." Christian faith is NOT spritual entertainment, but paying the price.

    Leaving Protestantism was the best decision I have ever made, and nothing compares to coming home to the fullness of Christ in the Eastern Orthodox Church. The depth, richness, and reverence for our Lord is unmatched, and I am so thankful the Holy Spirit lead me home to the church. I’m grateful for my Protestant background, because I learned a lot of Bible. It was a great stepping stone for someone coming from the occult and criminal background I came from. Moses the Ethiopian was the one of the Saints that had helped me tremendously on my own repentance journey.

      Just like biblical and historical evidence proves that jesus and his apostles were vegatarians biblical and historical evidence also proves that the trinity, atonement, original sin and hell are very late misinterpretations and are not supported by the early creed hence its not a part of Christianity I pray that Allah swt revives Christianity both inside and out preserves and protects it and makes its massage be witnessed by all people but at the right moment, place and time The secred text of the Bible says ye shall know them by their fruits So too that I say to my christian brothers and sisters be fruitful and multiply Best regards from a Muslim ( line of ismail )
