Dirt bike riding single track in Arizona
Short video of dirt bike riding single track in Arizona on my Yamaha YZ250X. This ride was an exploratory ride of some single track we turned around on last weekend. The single track ended up dropping us into some overgrown sand wash that led us to some really old trail that was hard to follow. We will need much cooler weather, more energy and some spare gas to go back to see where that leads us. I think everybody got their moneys worth on this ride because everyone was pooped by the time we were done. Another great motorcycle weekend adventure!

Wildcat single track Arizona off road riding

Another beautiful day to ride motorcycles in Arizona. Off road riding close to the Wildcat area single track in Arizona. The was one of our Mid week club ride with Arizona Trail Riders. This time I took the YZ250X with the new Nitromousse in the rear, the 140/90-18 definitely seems to crown the tire more than the Artrax 120/100-18 I originally tired, we will see what kind of mileage I get out o...

Hump day single track ride with the motorcycle club guys. Ended up riding 41 miles. Usually Bruce has a loop planned but today we just pieced trail together and it ended up being a good mix of fast and flowy with some tighter stuff and we got a chance to explore some new areas. My YZ250X had a rear bib mousse that was worn out from last weekends single track ride so I rode my Beta 200RR. The Be...
They call it no dab hill, YZ250X riding rocky trail

I think we came up with the name no dab hill because everyone likes to try ride up it without a dab. It's doable but a few sections, if it were a song, would be called Detroit rock city. The GoPro makes it look more smooth than it really is. This trail did my bib mousse in at almost 400 miles. The right side of the bead came off some on the rear tire, so the mousse is either done or shrinking o...

We started with 8 and ended with 5 for Al's birthday ride. The morning started nice and cool but summer is trying to hang on, it was about 94 when we got off the single track. The world's luckiest ground squirrel is at about minute 5:08. They are super cute but they try to out run you down the trail half the time instead of just running off through the desert, I'm glad I missed him. It's time f...
Saturday Single Track Extravaganza, the first of two rides

Last Saturday's ride number one. Nothing too techy, just 43 miles of fun Arizona single track with some of the guys from the club. We were supposed to get rain on Friday, then they changed it to Saturday in the AM, I was rained on driving out to Boulders OHV but the rain never made it Northwest to the trails.

What a day of riding motorcycles! Got in 60 miles of single track today. This short vid is about finding this gem right about 50-ish miles after we took a lunch break where we ate about double of what we should have. The day started with a 40 mile ride with a total of six of us. After lunch Al, Mark and I decided to go back out since the weather was so nice and do a little exploring and we were...

Club rides are back! Not that they were really ever gone but some people have been summer hibernating, packing the calories in anticipation for cool, below triple digit Arizona single track riding days. I think we ended up with 35-ish miles and had five riders in our group. I put a one tooth larger rear sprocket on the YZ250X, it's quite nice for the more chunky slower hills and it puts the bik...

Every had one of those days where it was kind of off, kind of didn't flow quite right even though you still wanted to ride? That was today, it was kind of an off day for my wife but we still managed to get in 20 miles of trail riding through the beautiful desert. We took the easier trails since there's no reason to push when you feel a little off. Ran into some old friends I haven't seen in 15 ...
YZ250X woods riding loop

Great little single track motorcycle training loop in the mountains of Arizona. The loop is almost 5 miles, burns 250-300 calories per lap and my heart rate was in zone 4/5 the whole time. I did 5 laps and was a little beat since I just picked up a rower the day before and did an ambitious work out on it. My Gopro unknowingly kept shutting off, most likely overheating since I had it set on 4K, ...
Still summer in Arizona single track ride on my YZ P1

Summer is trying to hang on here in Arizona, it's 106 as I type this but the mornings are much cooler and perfect for motorcycle rides. I do look forward to the mornings I don't have to wake up at 4:00 to go riding. Had a group of 5 riders, Steve led on his #KTM, Jeff 2 was on his #Husqvarna, Mark and Max brought their Beta #Xtrainers. Got in about 30 miles of fun and chunky at times single track.

Part 2 of our 30 miles of single track in Arizona on my YZ250X. We started on what is known as the Cactus Trail and rode all over the place. At one point we ended up what I dubbed as ''2 corners'' taking fame from the famous 4 corners where you stand at the corners of 4 states. At 2 Corners you stand in two counties, Maricopa and Yavapai, not nearly as exciting but we are working with what we h...

Looks like some fun riding! I just know I would target fixate on a cactus and straddle one 😆 Great video!
I think your wife did really good. Kudos to her for getting out there. Fun video!
Is your suspension stock on that Beta? Nice ride as always! Looking really good, great pace.
Stock other than putting in springs front and rear for my weight.
@@Monkeybutt_ADV Thanks, it looks like it's set up good for you.
The terrain looks like the mile markers. 👍. Just saw the new home development, south of the 74. I hope it takes them a long time to put those houses in. I like those trails in that area.
@@ml5955 It is.
One of my favorite places to ride.
Where is this trail?
This is NW of Boulders OHV.
Doesn't look like nuch sitting on that trail😂
Your channel keeps popping up in my feed, and I had stop in and show some love. Keep ripping brother, nice single track action. 🤙🏼
Thanks dude! Much appreciated.
Looks like the Yammer Hammer has taken over for the Beta! Your Beta must be gathering dust... I'm impressed with the blue machine! Good riding. I went out the same day, other side of town, out by Log Corral and yeah the heat was brutal towards the end of the ride about 12 noon. Hey does that trail have a name? Thanks for your awesome vids!
Yeah, the Beta's have been sitting since I got the YZ. I figured I would spend some real time on the YZ to get accustomed to the differences in the bikes. I've put 20 hours on the YZ now and it's super fun to ride and a great machine. I'm trying to decide if I should keep a stable of different bikes or just get a clone YZ and have 2 of them set up identically. Good problems to have I suppose. I don't know the names of them all but one of them was Cactus Trail. We were also on a trail where there was a concrete pyramid in the middle of nowhere by the single track, one side was labeled Maricopa County and the other Yavapai. Crazy to think someone walked all the way out there to build a concrete pyramid.
I'm from Arizona, third generation Arizonan. Those "Cholla cacti" are better known by natives as "jumping cactus" and they got their name by the fact that when you brush by them they "jump onto you!!!' When you try to pull them out they can hook into your skin...and you can get an infection if you don't keep the wound clean. Great ride, what year is that 250X? I watch your vids, you're with a much slower pack this ride😏
It's a 2023. Super fun bike!
Great Trail love seeing it. I’m in SoCal desert, but we don’t have really any Choya cactus to speak of. I have ridden Arizona and met those damn things firsthand and I do not like them! Lol!
They are quite sticky. Some areas are covered with so many of them.
Nice riding. Really hoping to get up there and ride the MM's this winter.
22:59 I was extremely fortunate to have seen a mountain lion. I was driving my rental car on 260 (Zane Grey Hwy.) through the Coconino National Forest from Prescott (Preskt 😉) back to Payson at night, about 3 weeks ago. The animal was about to cross the road, saw me and 180’d back into the forest. I had 3-4 seconds and got a good look at it in my headlights. I was surprised at how much bigger this one was than the ones I had seen in zoos before. I used to think that I could fight one off if I ever got attacked. But after that night, I’m not so sure anymore 😓. I am from back East and exploring the area in the hope of relocating here. I was told in the following few days how lucky I had been to have seen a mountain lion. Folks who’ve lived here all their lives are still hoping to see one.
Lucky to see one for sure! I'm sure one has seen me but I haven't seen one yet. I've seen a lot of Bobcat, some, like the mountain lion thing much larger than one would expect.
You were visibly going faster and faster each lap 👏
Update on these tires. I didn't run another one but I just rode with a guy with the T-45 on the rear of his GasGas that was fairly new, it was missing a few knobs and had some partially torn knobs. It seems like this tire is not built for the rock we have here in AZ. It may do fine if you ride somewhere like Wildcat or Northern AZ but the Boulders OHV area tears them up.
I’m at home with a badly pinched nerve in my left leg and a brand new KTM 300 in my garage. All I can do is watch you ride and pray I get well soon.
Bummer man. Hope you get better soon.
Great trail. Where is it?
This is Boulders OHV by Mile Marker 14.
@Monkeybutt_ADV Thank you
It’s always amazing to me how one tooth up in the rear can make such a huge difference in the gearing for a bike and how it performs on the trail. Great ride!
MM14?
Yep.
@@Monkeybutt_ADV are you north of the highway or do you go under the highway on the southside? I park usually right there by the chain fence and I am looking for rider friendly trails similar to this. Thanks
@@hustlewithchip This is north of 74. The trail is LP2 on the map but we're heading South/SW or clockwise if you looked at the map and went around the mountain. You can take LP2 right from the parking lot at mm14. There's tons of flowy stuff that runs west as well that leads all the way to MM4 and north of the highway.
@@Monkeybutt_ADV thank you so much for your time and advice!! I am looking on OnX is it trail 31002?
I just followed you on IG I will message you there, thanks again
Dunlops looked worse for me in that time in AZ
Depending on the model, some of the Dunlop tires go quick. This tire has an older date stamp on it, I may have to try it again. I'm running the Tusk Recon on the rear now with good outcomes, it has super soft knobs though but it is holding up well.
After spending a month riding in Colorado it's really difficult to get excited about sweating on my dirt bike.
What comes to mind is TG Sheppard's song lyrics from I loved 'em every one. Big, little or short or tall, wish I could've kept them all I loved 'em every one. Would need to change it up a little, something like cold, wet or dry or hot, I wish I could have rode them all.
“Wasn’t any kind of Diddy stuff….” 😂😂😂
Hey buddy, there’s something wrong with your GoPro. The picture is blurry and won’t focus. Maybe I’ve been drinking too much!
Another outstanding ride, you are really gelling on the Yamaha. Been in AZ my entire life and did not know about 2 corners! Excellent footage of the trail, love the commentary, great show!
is that MM4?
No. This is around the mm14 area.
Great job, that looked like a steep hill!
The Monkey Butt guy rides great! Him and the guy Al, they can get it on those trails!!!
Nice video! I love my 250X. A group of us are planning on coming down to ride in AZ this winter. We should link up if you are interested?
For sure. Let me know ahead of time when you are coming, we can make some plans and get together.
Do you still have the beta 300? We need to ride again soon, temps are getting nice!
I do. I picked up the yz250x on the 6th so my other bikes are getting neglected until I get some seat time on this one. Temps are great in the early mornings. I think we're going out Saturday.
@@Monkeybutt_ADV Nice, I might check out mm8, just hit mm14 last weekend.
We just picked up a 2022 XC with 12 hours for $6,000. Not something you can do all the time but if you wait and have cash you can. I liked the Yamaha X quite a bit, I think you did great! Excellent bike.
Yeah, that's a good deal. I have to quit looking, lol.
@@Monkeybutt_ADV I know! Me too. Now you have me looking at a YZ 250X 🤣 I really liked that bike, a little twitchy but something I could fix easily.
Alright then haha 🤙
Is this out at boulders area? Do you run GPS or any route tracking?
This is Boulders. I don't have a GPS but this is one of the old original trails out there. We always knew it as fence line since portions follow the fence. My buddy Al just picked up a GPS but I think he's still trying to figure out how to get tracks off it.
Beautiful bike, one of my favorites. If that bike had a magic button KTM, Beta and Sherco would be in a lot of trouble...
my dad has the same bike and im 13 and rode it, man is that thing a beast
Not realy a Fail. You got it on the second try. Cool clip.
do you guys ever ride tucson 11 mile marana ?
Haven't been down there to ride it. How is it?
@@Monkeybutt_ADV just moved to Tucson from TN I will be out in around 6 months have to get another bike. Thanks for the video
@@paulmessamore2440 Very cool. Tons of great riding in AZ. You will have to check out Glamis, it's wild. Great riding in Prescott and Flagstaff if you want woods riding. Hit us up when you have a bike and we can show you around the Phoenix area stuff.
Nice. You have dual sport bikes so you always ride to the trailheads? Correct?
This type of riding we truck the bikes to.
@@Monkeybutt_ADV I thought so, I asked because I wanted to say how impressed I am that after riding in AZ in the summer you have enough stamina left to load the bikes back for transport. Loading and unloading as the bike is heavy is definitely my least favorite part of riding. Nice job sir
Cool video in some hot weather! This isn’t Wildcat is it?
It's Boulders OHV. Unfortunately Wildcat is closed for a while due to a fire they had earlier in the year. Wildcat is supposedly going to open not too far in the future but they have been known to prolong closures at times.
@@Monkeybutt_ADV Got it. I’m in AZ and hoped this was Wildcat and that is was reopened! Soon!!
chunky, chuuuunky! The cross-rut fun save and the subsequent bush dive was a moment of excitement I bet. Some of that trail looks tricksy-tricksy! Who am I kidding...all of it does to me...😆🔥☀
So do you get out of bed at 3am? It's 116 right now. I'm hating it.
@@SaveAmerica1-pz2xg 3:30, got that extra 30 minutes of zzzz's, lol.
Monkeybutt, can you tell us where that trail is at the Boulders? Like the name and when you park at the main staging area how to get to the trail itself? Much appreciated and I enjoy all your vids. Subbed too. Thank you so much for your vids!
Unfortunately I don't know exactly how to tell you since I don't gps any of my rides. In general we rode West towards MM4, took trail North and ended up on Castle Hot Springs Road. The more hilly part is through a big green gate off Castle Hot Springs.
Could always tag along at some point and we could show you.
Great trails. What area are you guys riding in?
NW of Phoenix in Boulders OHV.
That was a fantastic ride! You guys were hauling the mail for sure. How far back were the other riders? For riding in the summer (regardless of the morning hour) that was impressive riding. Thanks for taking us along!!!
It was just 3 of us this time so not too far back. We always wait at turns, let everyone catch up and make sure everyone is ready to keep rolling.
Steve Ryan had a saying that he shared with me at his practice track in San Juan Capistrano: "You aren't trying hard enough until you crash"
Nice ride. I'm from AZ too and ride in the same areas. Anyway, yeah, we have to get up super early this time of year for it to be even reotely cool!
My wife is 62 and kicks my ass every time we ride. I used to think I was fast 😂. If you love it ,keep at it. 😊
I'm surprised how little bit of dust was kicked up going that speed and how dry it is. I was out there last week as well, I felt fine when moving but when we stopped I would feel crappy. We were pushing it pretty hard at one point and I paid for that later on. Hey, your wife is running at a really good pace! Good for her. Thanks for sharing!
She's getting faster, she's a good C pace now. We were lucky enough to have a little wind that kept some of the dust down.
Where you guys at with this one?
That's up in Prescott.
It’s a klx it’ll be fine! Good attempt, is this Prescott?
It is Prescott. Lots of good stuff up there.
