#101 - Advanced Training Techniques Athletes Need To Be Using - Don Moxley
What makes a good strength and conditioning program?
Is it just doing hard stuff in the gym so you’re more prepared for the sport?
It’s actually quite far from that, and Don Moxley has a TON of data to prove it.
Don Moxley is a sports scientist, who helped many athletes achieve incredible success in wrestling, including Olympic medals and many world championships.
This is Don’s 2nd appearance on the show, as he was on from Episode 75, and we picked up right where we left off, talking about the details so many people miss when it comes to good strength and conditioning programs.
This discussion was even more detailed in its discussion of how someone can appreciate using more data rather than...

This episode is a big one. It was an absolute honor to have this guest on. My father…Don Qually. My dad has been a grain farmer all his life. He’s seen some good years, some bad years, and terrible years. But no matter what he kept pushing through. My dad is by far one of the hardest-working people I’ve ever met. Sun up to sun down. And no one has shown me a better example of what it means to c...

      @@RQTrainingNutritionjust the quality of cinnamon😇 it’s not the cinnamon itself but rather contamination during processing🙈 So any good quality cinnamon should be just fine🙏 however if you consume a lot of cinnamon on a daily basis you should probably stick with Ceylon cinnamon instead of cassia cinnamon (most normal/common type). since cassia contains a lot of coumarin which can be toxic to the liver in high amounts. So a good quality Ceylon (which most Ceylon cinnamon is) and you can basically eat as much as you dare👏 hope that helps🥰 they look absolutely delicious by the way😋

    • @RQTrainingNutrition
      @RQTrainingNutrition Месяц назад

      Major in kinesiology and then a second degree in nutrition. But this I learnt in the gym because most people don’t know that strength comes down to the power equation. Force X Velocity = Watts so when you strength train you want to optimize that but more recent research has shown for muscle building is about mechanical tension which is the last few reps I spoke about.

    • @davkang9030

      Bro though that he asked mocking question, but got legit answer 💀

    • @Schnorzel1337
      @Schnorzel1337 Месяц назад

      I don't agree with the idea of thinking about your training in terms of power and work. The physical units. Telling someone to stop on speed decrease is weak tho. If your muscle trains with more power output but does less work it will not grow as much or adapt. And for the competition lifts you need to practice low rep ranges.

    • @RQTrainingNutrition
      @RQTrainingNutrition Месяц назад

      Well, the physical units are real. And when I say you should stop when speed reduces is backed by powerlifters AND the research when it comes to strength development. You want to keep reps in reserve and NOT go to failure. Notice I didn't say it has to be fast relative to what you think fast is. When powerlifters lift their reps, it looks slow, but the problem is when you're doing a set and it gets slower during the rep. Deceleration is a sign your body is overworked. I didn't say go light. But I kept it simple terms for the average lifter saying 1-8 reps. So if you want a specific number you should be 80% or higher of your 1 rep max, only IF you're an experienced lifter. I did say lower rep ranges, and I fully agree if you're preparing for competition, it should usually be 1-3 reps. But most people don't have nearly good enough technique to work effectively in the 1-3 rep range. So they are too heavy to learn good technique. The average person can get GREAT gains doing 4-8 reps with a heavyish load and good technique. This comes not just from research data, but also over 14 years of watching the average lifter.

    Not really with the whole just because you’re in a deficit it doesn’t matter what your insulin is doing. It’s just not the same for people who care about health. You can also be in a calorie deficit and still be unhealthy asf because the calories don’t matter where they come from as long as you eat below maintenance. And she is also right btw. Glucose monitors show that when you eat rice or potatoes or even oatmeal your glucose will spike almost or damn near the same as if you ate processed sugar. Carbohydrates are not an essential nutrient to the human body. Thats just a lie that’s been pushed to you since you were a kid. If it was essential you would need them to not only live but thrive. I eat no carbs and I’m in better shape then like 99% of the population

    • @RQTrainingNutrition
      @RQTrainingNutrition 2 месяца назад

      You’re correct Carbs are not essential by the definition of your body can make it its own. And that’s terrific you’ve found cutting a whole food for up works for you. A vast majority of people do not want to and do not have to. The only way the carbs like rice, potatoes, raise the blood sugar is if they are eaten independently of any other food. Of course That’s not a healthy diet. If you have with protein and fiber you’ll significantly blunt the response. The only major concern for anyone is if a food spikes their appetite. I don’t think we’re seeing epidemic because people are having too much rice and potatoes. There are plenty of people who want to continue to eat a lot of snickers and snicker like foods. So this is why the comparison is useless.

    • @isaiahhopson6757
      @isaiahhopson6757 2 месяца назад

      @@RQTrainingNutrition Yes but Carbs are the number one thing that spikes peoples appetite. The entire reason as to why people become overweight is in the process of eating Carbs whether it’s through candy bars or rice. If someone were to eat a fatty steak they would get full rather quickly but if you place a huge bowl of spaghetti in front of them they could easily over eat on calories. Same with rice and potatoes. They lead too more calories that people shouldn’t be having. It’s projected in a couple years that 50 percent of America will be obese. What macronutrient do you think that is a result of? It’s not protein or healthy fats. Also, all carbs contain glucose, fructose, sucrose, some sort of sugar. Most people have sugar addictions so carbs make them relapse on their calorie deficits leading to no progress. You could make the argument of people just having discipline but if you eat the proper human diet you don’t need to worry about weight gain. My issue with influencers like you is you say all that matters is essentially a calorie deficit and don’t worry about carbs. You also stated you don’t think we are in a carb epidemic but I’ll ask again what macronutrient is causing all the weight gain if it isn’t carbs. It’s very easy to understanding. Catering to what people think tastes good is not how we are gonna progress as humans. At least if your going to say too eat carbs educate yourself on the things you have too lookout for and then say that too your audience.

He started working which had him on his feet and walking, he changes his diet, started walking home from work and lifting weights when he got home. He lost over 30 lbs. in about 6 months of doing this. He’s not restricting any food groups but doesn’t overdo anything to the extreme. He schedules his annual checkup with a new doctor first thing she wants to do is put him on Ozempic and he was like Uh I’m only 25 years old. She quipped back really quick on we have PEDIATRIC patients 😅. Yeah needless to say he passed on the prescription and continues to make progress slow and steadily on his own and I couldn’t be prouder of him.
