Hi! My name's Dave, and I live in Northamptonshire in the UK.
I love gadgets, I always have done. This vlog is always going to have a technical slant, but that's not all. You'll also see a lot of the UK's roads and transportation, and with cars and other forms of transport gaining more and more technology, seemingly by the day, that kind of goes hand in hand with what I want to talk about.
As well as my day job, I volunteer at two local radio stations - Corby Radio and PCRFM. You'll see a lot of those as I go out and about.
In my first set of videos, I try to live without a smartphone for a week and use a retro Nokia 6310i instead. It's surprising what I learn and it does change my attitude. Hit the subscribe button and follow along as I explore technology, old and new, and a bit of transportation thrown in!

Skoda Superb 2.0 TSI (petrol) part 2: real life fuel economy in Eco mode
The second of two episodes, testing the actual fuel economy I get from my 2020 Skoda Superb. I have a 17-mile commute on rural roads, and in this episode I am driving normally in Eco mode, where the engine shuts down cylinders when it can, and coasts in neutral when my foot is not on the accelerator.
See the actual difference this mode makes compared to the drive I did the previous day in 'normal' mode.

The time has come to say goodbye to the excellent 2016 Skoda Superb mk3 that I've had for the last three and a half years. As the PCP was coming to an end, it was actually more cost effective to trade the car in for a new one rather than pay the balloon payment and keep it. So today I pick up my brand new Superb L&K. As a volunteer on a community FM radio station for Peterborough, UK, I have a day job to pay the bills. So I record the local news bulletins every evening remotely, and upload them to the station, where they go out every hour from 7am to 6pm on weekdays, just after the main national news from Sky. I haven't driven a manual, but I believe it stays engaged until you press the brake or go below 20mph. Not entirely sure though.

How is the driving quality indicator supposed to be used?
The video is great. However, I dislike that virtual cockpit. It might be okay while parking. But setting up the most simple thing during driving is dangerious. One more reason to keep staying with my 8 years old car.

No, the virtual cockpit is only available for the facelift Superb from MY 2019, as far as I know.
Do you know how to make the sat nav in these skodas go live by any chance.
How did the photos end up? :) I just picked one of these up at a carboot sale and everything seemed in order after switching out the batteries, so I'm curious if the age of the camera has done anything to the picture quality in your case?
To be honest I never got any further with using this camera. My personal circumstances changed shortly after making this video which I why I no longer produce any more. I would expect, however, that the quality would still be the same, as it's just optics and film.

@@generationxtec5576 A few euros or pounds for the petrol. Not a good advertisement for the company in my opinion. Anyway, just picked up my new Superb from the dealer. Luckily with a full tank.
How do I change the average consumption from “Since Refuelling” to “Since Start”?
You press the right hand thumb wheel on the steering wheel to cycle between since start, since refuelling and long term.

This shows how smartphones create dependence and take away basic problem solving skills from the young generation. I love driving with my siemens sx1 a compass and a full map of all the road networks. Your brain works so different when you have no smart devices at your disposal. It will even surprise you.

Hi, I’ve got the same car but how do you get the speed limit icon to show in the cluster like you have? I’m missing that.
The speed limit icon comes from the traffic sign recognition system, which is an optional extra at the point of manufacture. If you haven't got that, the speed limit won't show.
Hi, is the virtual cockpit standard on a 2022 Karoq 1.5 sel or is it an added extra?

this video was helpful when i first purchased this camera on ebay, but my time was cut short with it since the tiny silver vertical piece in the film chamber fell off and was rattling around inside. found the video again when looking for repair advice. does that piece affect how the film rewinds? i suspect the photos i had taken are either double exposed (the frame counter had started over after blinking for a bit) or blank. suppose i have to take it for repair but i’m a bit intimidated!
Hello! I've just bought the camera from the thrift store earlier. The LCD back is on but upon clicking the on/off button, the camera lens won't open. What seems to be the problem here? Is the battery power low, or does it need film to turn on?
From memory, I think the LCD uses a different battery. The main batteries are CR123 lithium batteries, try replacing those.

No, unfortunately not. You can only get Google Maps on the infotainment system through Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, not on the virtual cockpit.
Hello, I have a question about the cockpit setup. In your video you have to see the alarm where the average consumption since refueling is displayed. In my car it shows the average long term consumption. How can I reconfigure it to also show from fill up or from start? Thank you for your advice. Tom.
Hi Tom, you can cycle through the long term/since start/since refuel displays by pressing the left thumb wheel on the steering wheel. It'll then stay on that setting until you change it again.

@@tomklema1160 On the steering wheel, the scroll wheel which turns the volume up and down. Press it, as opposed to rolling it up or down, and that changes the display. You may need to have the ignition on. Hope that helps 🙂

Erm I have just purchased this camera and it's also my first one film camera. I have a question that after finishing a film roll, will it auto-rewind the film roll? Or do we have to rewind the film roll manually?
When the film gets to the end, it will rewind automatically. Just keep taking pictures until it does 🙂

Yes it does, it uses a combination of the the GPS data and the front facing camera. So it picks up temporary speed limits in roadworks too.
Have had a Superb 2.0tsi 220 for 5years. Have had 55.6mpg on a drive back from Scotland, average 38 to 39 over 3000mile segments, never use economy mode, always in individual mode.....and just now and again in sport.

Hi, no that won't work unfortunately. The battery door has a contact on it that completes the circuit between the two cells.
