Disappointed and Heartbroken: A Story of Mismanagement We chose Neotia Bhagirathi Woman & Child Care Centre in Kolkata with so much hope, believing it would give the best care for my wife and our baby. My wife, Madhurima, had gestational diabetes (GDM), and we followed every instruction-from monitoring her blood sugar to maintaining a strict diet. However, when we shifted to Kolkata, proper GDM management was ignored despite clear signs like elevated sugar levels and a large baby weight of 3.3 kg at 37 weeks. The doctor failed to prescribe insulin or metformin as per standard protocols, which could have prevented the complications our baby faced after birth. Our baby had respiratory distress, transient tachypnea, and even sepsis, requiring NICU care. While we accepted the need for care, feeding mismanagement and questionable billing practices at the hospital added to our pain. We trusted this hospital to provide the best care, but lapses in GDM management and basic neonatal care have left us heartbroken and questioning the system.
