@MY_OUTDOORS. I know it won't be nearly as bright as really any Black Gold sight. Black gold gets the advantage for their fibers, for sure. I'm used to shooting .010 fibers in my dual trac, so I'm hoping the .019 fibers in the Spot Hogg will be equivalent. So far, I've not noticed a huge difference. When I got the new set of strings, one of the colors I ordered was missing only from one cable. When we let the manufacturer know, he built a new cable and sent it out right away. Their customer service is top notch. However, it was hunting season, so I left the first cable on my bow (still had the same diameter and strand count as the others. Just missing the green twist) This year, I was getting my bow dialed in for a hog hunt in Texas back in April. I remembered I had a brand new cable with all 3 colors. So I put it on the bow, tuned it, and went hunting. Well, after a few days, that cable finally relaxed. It caused the tuning issues you see on this video. One new cable, with all other cables and strings being 9 months old. Haha. I knew it would create weird flight eventually. But I also knew I could fix that. Once again, thanks for stopping by. @user-nx8vp5sy5d you are talking about his law that states... "an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force" Or " for every action (force) in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction" Both of these are halves to the arrow momentum example. Heavier objects take more force to stop. Think about a corvette doing 140mph and a semi doing 70mph. They both lose brakes and control, heading towards the same brick building. Which one makes it further into the building? Arrow mass is the same concept. Here's a simpler one. Throw a ping pong ball as hard as you can against a pane of glass. Now throw a golf ball half as fast. Both of those are examples of newton's laws. Thigh they are roughly the same size, they have different mass. If a ping pong ball weighs 2.7grams (courtesy of google) and a golf ball weighs around 1.8 ounces (thanks again google) there are 28.35 grams in an ounce. That means the golf ball is 18.9 times heavier (more mass) than the ping pong ball. Therefor takes 18.9 times more force to stop completely. All this is in despite of velocity. It's just math. @user-nx8vp5sy5d I've had this fletching jig for over 4 years now. It took a while to learn. I love these vanes, but they are made from a stiffer material. That's why I like them. Some of the bases are really "deep" is the only way I can describe it. You need to add more glue, and press harder for a few seconds longer. The voids happen on both sides on one out of every 10 vanes. Again, it's never a problem with other vanes that have a more flat base to mount to the carbon. Searching the internet, there are plenty of similar comments about Tac vanes. They require a bit more work. But in my opinion, the trade off is worth it. Thanks for watching. Happy Hunting!

@a.j.taylor4401 hello and thank you for your comment. I see the validity of your comment. I hunt with a wrist strap index style t release for this reason. I still refrain from punching the trigger. But in a circumstance where I NEED the bow to go off when I want it to, I have that ability. However, the purpose of this video wasn't to talk someone into getting a surprise release. Actually, at the end of the video, I talk about shooting YOUR BOW the way YOU WANT to. This video was essentially highlighting the exaggerated arm-flying-backwards movement that people have recently started doing to show people that they got a surprise release. In my opinion, it's ridiculous, and everyone can tell it's fabricated. That was the purpose of this video. Over the last 3 or so years, people have started caring WAY TOO MUCH about what other people think. At the end of the day, let's just shoot our bows, and try to get better than we were the day before. That was my intention of this video... because I agree with everything you wrote. @@PersonalBestOutdoors I understand what you are saying. I know you were trying to show that a surprise release doesn't make you move you arm that far back lol. Like you said people do that so other people will think they are using a surprise release when actually they aren't. I'm with you on shooting how you want. People care way too much about what other people think and are also quick to say you are doing it wrong. I am not the greatest shot and I don't care anything about back tension and all that. I know it's way more accurate but most of the time I am shooting in a hurry.

@denniswehling2147 Thank you for your comment! I have always known the merits of a heavier arrow. As the industry has gotten aroused by speed, like many others; I have tried it along with expandable heads... with obviously mixed and poor experiences. The last 5 years I've been back into the 550+ with fixed blade only setups. For the last 5 years, I've taken home every animal I've sent arrows at. In April of this year, I met Doc Ashby. Along with Rob Nielson, Jeremy Johnson and of course; Troy Fowler. Sitting there, sharing a bit of pipe tobacco with Doc and listening to his stories... seeing pictures of the large game this group has killed made everything so real to me. @TheNewBowunter if you are asking why I am electing to build an arrow that utilized glue on points, it is because structural integrity is the first and most important of the 12 factors enhancing arrow penetration. These arrows are going to be used on elk and other large game, along with an opportunity at dangerous game next year. Where a hard impact (like on heavy bone) is a possibility, threaded arrow heads and moving parts have been documented to fail upon impact, negatively effecting potential penetration. Additionally, building arrows is expensive. So I build them to last with quality components that do not break or fail. Where they can be re-sharpened, re-fletched and re-used. @wcwcgarner2717 Thank you. After meeting Troy and Doc, the whole experience took on a whole new meaning for me. Originally I started filming to send all this content to Troy. However, Troy recommended I start my own channel and share the content. So thank you for watching. I've had my VXR since the year after it came out. I was upgrading from a Hoyt intruder. It was a consignment bow, and I just shot it so well. I've harvested plenty of game with it. I don't think I'll ever trade it in.

@madman432000 I appreciate the feedback! I am brand new to this videography stuff. I'll make sure to key that in mind in the future. My soft knots I not only tie tightly. I also put cool melt on the serving thread before tying them on there. Then put a sightly heated blade against them to allow the cool melt to do it's thing on my center serving. The result is a soft knot that you can still take off, but won't slide on you. I do use a nock for choosing where I'm going to tie my soft knots on. I showed this in my video. Thank you for watching. @AdamCooper-qg1oh ordinarily, I wouldn't use aluminum. However, the insert into the heads is made of steel. The aluminum footers from ethics archery are 20gn. When you Install them the way I have in this video (pushed forward into the broadhead and with JB Weld) they have done quite well in my durability testing. That video will be up soon. Since doc Ashby's first most important factor is structural integrity, I discussed the merits of aluminum with him on one of our phone calls. These footers serve one very specific purpose. Preventing the carbon from splintering and expanding upon a hard impact. When shot into a cinder block, they did their job well. I'm curious... what was your experience? Which brand of footers did you use? How were they installed?

@@Verticalbowoutdoors thank you for the comment. Although it may look that way on camera, I can assure you that there is only about 1/8" of space between my nock and moving point. This gap has been perfect for me to ensure I don't get any nock pinch when at full draw. I plan to make a video on this. So many people have nock pinch without being aware. This can cause major tuning issues. The level of the bubble is also a camera angle thing. Plus, I was more worried about the "left to right" bubble location. Without that being perfectly centered, it can manipulate the true distance reading between the center of the arrow and the inside of the riser on the bow. Thank you so much for watching. Each of them on this Playlist is important to understand the previous and next steps. I don't want to create conflict with people. For too long the industry has misled people into speed being the biggest factor in hunting. If that's so, how do people kill animals with trad equipment? I'm not mad at anyone who believes in speed. At the end of the day, i believe people need to shoot what gives them confidence. I've wounded animals that i didn't recover. Hunt long enough with a sharp stick and it's going to happen. At some point i believe everyone asks themselves how to be more successful. This Playlist is for those people, and will increase your efficiency. My process for building these arrows are common in the trad world. I'm not doing anything sickish or unique. It's actually been around for decades. Many compound target shooters do this same process to get the most forgiving spine in their arrow. I've actually met Doc Ashby, Rob Nielson (current president of the Ashby Bowhunting Foundation) and Troy Fowler aka the Ranch Fairy. They've got a lot to teach anyone open minded. Additionally, I would like to bring up a question... assuming he did only use traditional bows, how is it that a trad bow sitting a 900gn arrow could get a passthrough on large African game, but you see videos all over RUclips of people shooting a 400gn arrow from a modern compound and only getting half an arrows worth of penetration? Is it the fault of the bow? Or the arrow? Th is is why I started this channel. So many people are understandably misinformed about the Natal Study in general. @@PersonalBestOutdoors putting out the heavy arrow info is the worst thing you can do if you want to teach ethical hunting. More misses . More wounded animals . Can it be done ? Sure. Is it necessary? Not even close. Its a “fad” thing . In my opinion for people who are confused about hunting and killing animals cleanly and ethically. It has nothing to do with the weight of your arrow ( to an extent) its about well tuned bow and arrows and sharp broadheads . That is all. Oh wait shot placement and timing. ALL of which … the heavy arrow guys think they can get around. Just stop it!!

@tonyviers-de9qi I agree with everything you've said. You should check out the test of my content. Bow tuning, it's there. Shoot placement is critical. On that we agree. I fail to understand from your logic how a heavy arrow equals a miss, though. It's it an "fps" thing? If so, how have traditional archery users ever killed anything, then? All of those bows are substantially slower than any modern compound setup these days. Ethics? Now that's a subject we can get into. Riddle me this... why are there restrictions on minimum caliber usage for hunting in the states, but none (aside from draw weight) for bow hunting? If anything, a heavier, always deployed broadhead is more ethical. Sure to reduced range, it requires the user to get closer. Aka a more ethical shot. Have you done the math on flight time of arrows? I have. A 400gn arrow moving 300 fps (chronograph at the bow... that same arrow is only moving 278fps at 60 yards) takes .6 seconds to reach the target ASSUMING it is still moving 300 fps at 60 yards. Which it isn't. (180 feet divided by 300 fps) whereas a 656gn arrow moving at 235fps (at the bow) is still moving 226fps at 60. This is basic physics we will discuss in a later video. Anyway, that arrow takes .76 seconds to reach the target at 60 yards. We are talking about 16 one- thousands of a second slower. That's about as long as it takes a person to blink... there's your fun fact of the day. That's before even getting into momentum. Going back to physics... an object in motion, tends to stay in motion. A 650gn arrow at 235fps has 67.7 slugs of momentum. A 400gn arrow at has 53.2 Slugs. Momentum calculated as mass X velocity, then divided by 225,400 for slugs. Slugs represented as slug ft/sec. Momentum is the energy potential to continue THROUGH an intended target. In this case, meat. Every bow hunter in the world will agree 2 holes are better than 1. Therefor, how is 1 light arrow with less slugs more ethical than a heavier one producing 2 holes? I get it. Shot placement. I've pulled a bow since 16. I'm 36 now. I got that. You can't kill them if you don't hit the vitals. I agree. But what about that shot a bit too far forward? You minimize this risks by shooting within your effective range. I agree there. Be ethical. Is 650gn overkill for a white tail? Absolutely. But if I can get out to fly perfectly (featured in one of my videos) and am ethical about is usage... which I am. I find it comforting to know I have an arrow capable of breaching heavy bone and puting that animal down instead of wounding it. That's what this series is about. So where is this unethical? Once again, thanks for your comment. Discussions like these can be productive. They also really help the channel out. It also gives me ideas about how to do this project more justice and explain things better next time. So thank you.

Actually if anything it's the light Arrow that's going to make more unethical archers because everybody is going to these tac shoots thinking they can shoot out to 120 140 yards on a moving animal. Whereas people that use the heavy arrow actually learn some hunting skills and get close to the animal. ​@tonyviers-de9qi
