We've lit up our runway for the first time - and it's an incredible sight! 💡
With more than 2800 aeronautical ground lights, linked by 300 km of cabling, it's been a massive feat.
Our high intensity approach lights can be seen from 10 miles away and are equipped with a 'flasher' to show pilots the direction of approach ✈️
There are 6 lighting intensity settings - which can be changed automatically based on the weather.
This means that aircraft can land even in foggy conditions - so less delays due to weather. How good!
It's one step closer to welcoming our first passengers in late 2026 - and we can't wait!

130,000 lifts 🏗️ 27 months 📆 One brand-new terminal! ✈️ The team at Multiplex have started dismantling the cranes that have worked so hard to build the Western Sydney International Airport terminal! While it’s a bit of a sad moment to see them go, it’s an exciting step towards welcoming our first customers in 2026.

Building a brand new international airport in western Sydney has already created thousands of high quality jobs - with even more to come when we open in late 2026 ✈ Nearly 50% of people working on WSI are western Sydney locals. No, two runways (similar layout as at London Heathrow) and ultimately about six times the terminal capacity that you now see being built. Those are not 7 'gates'. Each has multiple aerobridges. Each is capable of handling one large wide-bodied airliner, two domestic jets like 737s and A 320s, or up to four smaller commuter aircraft. Don't you read readily available information on the web before throwing away any credibility to comment.

Don’t know which genius thought building the underground station so far from the actual terminal building rather than under it or immediately in front was a great idea. Australian planning never misses a chance to miss a chance.
a single story airport with 6 gates as a "new gateway into australia" is completely insane the fact that *this* is what took 50 years to build is insane, this wouldn't even make state news in America or national news in the UK or Europe
that's because in the long term layout plan for the airport, the station will be right in the middle between the terminals. Obviously, they're making a future proof design right now.
@@KingFinnchIt's being built to handle the passenger and aircraft numbers that are expected in its' first few years of operation. If (more likely when) these numbers increase then the terminal can be easily enlarged, and there is plenty of space to do so.
@@clevergirl4457Exactly. In its' ultimate configuration the metro station will be at the centre of the airport, with terminals and runways on both sides. Finally there's someone here who knows what they're talking about...

How many people realise that the Badgerys Creek Public School used to exist on this airport construction site? As well as Pitt Street, Gardiner Road, Taylors Road, Longleys Road, and Badgerys Creek Road? There was Badgerys Creek Park too.

Once this 24 hour airport opens property prices will crash around it. Anyone who lives next to Sydney airport knows this. All those property owners currently selling around there with stratospheric asking prices and no takers will realise this very quickly.
