Просмотров 36319 часов назад
On 28 January 1986, the space shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after launch. BBC Newsround was the first UK news programme to cover the story as it happened shortly before they went on air. 4 days later, this was a special edition of Newsround Extra presented by John Craven. It used the normal BBC News eet so was unusually one of the few times John Craven sat behind a desk.

Self indulgent BBC rubbish.
Damn, nostalgia is so so bitter-sweet.... sweet one was around to experience such programmes, yet so bitter we will never see the likes again
3 months later the world changed forever.
???
Chernobyl April 26th 1986?
17:45 Never thought id see Judiths camel toe
I personally would love to go and visit Guglovo and Svergino
Come on Eddie, you’ve got this.
Remeber watching this episode as a 13 year old
I was 20 years of age .
Monoclonal Antibodies to reduce fat. I just looked that up to see how that's going. Still not well developed yet. BUT, while Ozempic is all the rage right now. It's predicted that monoclonal antibodies will be the NEXT generation of fat-fighting medications.
Looking back now.... i realise some of the content was not relevant ... then again i'm not a golfing oil scientist with an interest in double basses...just saying 😊😊
I remember watching this when it first aired on BBC 1 when I was 11 and found it fascinating. It's 39 years old, but it still seems like yesterday in my mind 😢😢😢
I was 23 going on 24 when this aired !
By convenient coincidence, exactly 40 years ago today.
Indeed so there then too of course?!
The music when Howard is on the water is Storm Column by Mark Shreeve (1985)
We've sent further probes to Jupiter and Saturn. Uranus & Neptune have been left out. We've had HD pictures of Pluto. I hope they can arrange something in my lifetime and even drop a small probe inside the planets to see what it is like.
yeh see what judiths up to HAHAHAHAAHAA this was so amaturish. no wonder the beeb cant pull this crap anymore. people are wise to it.
We need a new TV series, Yesterday's World....
Yesterday's World ... When the BBC produced unbiased news and the people got decent content for their TV Licence fee!
Tomorrow's World was based AF! Oil drilling, against Soy milk, Rockets! They thought we would be amongst the stars today. Instead we doom scroll our phones!
Just about every feature you saw on TW was covered in the previous month's New Scientist magazine.
Tony Knowles beat Eddie Charlton to progress to the semis 😅.. oops .. spoiler alert 🚨 👍🏴
Does anyone remember that C&A sweater with a horizontal rainbow 🌈 stripes?!
How do you justify simply stealing material that isn't yours? (Rhetorical question. I know the answer is 'because no one is stopping you' even though you deserve censure for doing so.)
Why? This is 40 years ago. Nothing on the bbc is worth watching anymore, and we all paid for these programmes in the day. They couldn't pay me to watch their nonsense programming these days. At least back then, they still had some integrity.
From the perspective of this programne, we are now in tomorrows world. They could never have predicted how shit (in Britain anyway) it was going to be. 🙄
It is getting a tad dystopian as of late. Like so many sci fi futuristic films, and books have been portraying it. The bible also I think. Are we in the end days?
Interesting to see how long it’s taken for digitally colourised B&W films to catch on (Chaplin in the intro).
Hi Nigel, are you still about...Tony
It's Neil(!) but yes. HRB still going strong and now on DAB around Basingstoke as a local health and wellbeing community radio station. It feels like we have come full circle since the days of the RSLs. www.hrbasingstoke.co.uk
Still looking for members if you have withdrawal symptoms
@@neilogden Sorry Neil, not sure why I wrote Nigel. I moved to Germany for a six-month contract in 1997, and never returned to the UK. I would love to do radio work, but it would be a long way to the studio. I intend to come back to the UK next time, at the beginning of May. May see you then.

Tomorrows ... 'Thhhp!' World. 'Thhhp! Good lord - I'd forgotten about the uber-noisy breathing! What was that about?
Well, that catamaran thing certainly made a monumental impression on the World. Strangely they never seemed to know the World was going to be 'plunged into a climate disaster' a few years later. It's almost like it's a scam dreamt up in the last few years to make some select people very rich indeed. [Have to say a word in praise of the basic photo editing, courtesy of some buttons off the Star Ship Enterprise]
Here we are nearly 40 years later what climate disaster are you talking about ?
@@davidwebster8536 incase you were not being ironic, may I point you to the California wildfires in the middle of winter.
Ah yes the blinkenlights to convince the viewer that some editing was being done live. We all know how well live TV went with the TW team.😄
@DJ-Eye You gullible fool.
No zone
I used to have the Sony profeel tv they use in this program they were great.
It’s pronounced a-LUM-in-um!!!
If you're in America.
Not in English 😊
WRONG on Challenger diagnosis! Nothing to do with the fuel lines, and that was totally wrong!
I think that was the speculation at the time. Of course it was later shown that was wrong but it was one of many initial theories. It only happened a few days earlier.
How primitive
It’s pronounced YOUR-ANUS!!!!
I always thought the titles were a bit rushed The zoom out on the circle should have matched the O in the One.
Not really, for me the rushed nature would be seen in the 1993 revamp, with the computer generated set. The 1pm News intro music didn't match the opening with the spinning globe and the pull back to reveal the CGI glass coat of arms. The new revised music didn't fit it
