DJI mini 4 Pro approaches a Common Buzzard on a Pylon

Common Buzzard caught with my DJI Drone today. Best viewed on a big screen with sound on. You can see the Buzzard thermaling at the start of the footage before it came to rest on the electricity pylon. Nice, simple unboxing and honest comments, thanks.
Looking forward to the hands on review.
Coming soon!
Nice to hear no nonsense real impressions. Kudos for your pronunciation of Scalextric too! I've been anguishing about replacing my D810 and going z for the wysiwyg finder with old lenses + ibis and the latest 105z micro (my ais is falling apart). I will have the same niggles as you so this vid was very funny and useful to me - a grumpy brit 😂
Hi, thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate that. The Z9 is a terrific camera but the 180-600 z lens that I have is nowhere near as decent as my old 200-500 F glass. I also think that the Z glass is WAYYYY OVERPRICED for what you get. The 105 Nikon Micro in F glass is a cracking lens but I do not own the newer Z glass 105 so it would be unfair to comment, other than the fact that the F glass will be cheaper now due to people switching over. The Z9 has focus stacking built in though and that is a definite plus. Good luck with your future decision making anyway!!
@@wildlifesnapper1 Thanks for responding.Yes my 105 is the AI-s but it is my workhorse lens and falling apart. I thought it might be time to upgrade it and although it seems daft to consider a top end mirrorless mostly for manual lenses - I have found they still hold their own... and I still shoot film on F3s
@@Φιδάκι I have a Nikon F4s but it is used as a bookend these days I'm afraid to say !!
So, my 5 yo lens, the exact same model, has the exact, same symptoms. I'm is the US and was going to send it off to NikonUSA for repair. I'm going to give this a try. If not successful, I'm wondering if NikonUSA will take on the problem after the seals have been tampered with? I purchased the lens, new, for $1400 dollars US and I've seen discounts from NikonUSA in recent months. I think I'll take the risk. Thanks for the YT video from across the pond.
Your issue with Nikon USA will be the cost of repair which will probably be the same as a good used 200-500 can be purchased for. This repair is simple and I have full strip down instructions if you encounter any other issues?
Thanks for the video. You helped me enormously. I had two screws that had completely come out! A bit of shaking (and not a small amount of cursing) and they both appeared. Nikon wanted £720 to repair it. Thanks again, I'm very happy once more. 🥳
@Swisztony my pleasure, you could buy a good used 200-500 for £750 so Nikon need to look at their repair pricing. Or, perhaps they'd rather not repair it and that's why they charge a fortune, who knows?
That’s really good
Great pics mate
Thanks a lot
Based on the issue I was having with my Nikkor 200-500mm lens and your instructions on your video I was able to repair the lens in about 5 minutes. Yep, the silver headed screw was the issue. It was a simple fix. Thank you so much for your video.
You are more than welcome, glad you are up & running again. Many thanks for taking the time to post your comment here.
But it's stuck. I can't turn it to expose the screw. That's the whole problem. 🧐
Yes it will be and you have to force it to expose the issue. If it is a screw then it will only scratch the inside of the plastic shroud and not the zoom barrel. If you don't want to do that then I have complete instructions to dismantle the lens, the choice is yours to make?
I have not got this lens yet but valuable to have advance info on such problems :) In fact I'm also concerned about this lens susceptibility to moisture ingress and thus condensation deposit internally. A well known 2nd hand kit supplier proposes approx 9/57 of this zoom model 'with light condensation' problem, and I am intrigued how to deal with this should it arise. Obviously, peeling back the rubber shroud would allow better airing and drying access. If anyone has more advice it would be gratefully recieved.
@treelee8485 Hi, thanks for the comment. In honesty I never had an issue with moisture when using the 200-500. I owned the lens for 8 years and it was used in all weather's but other than the screw issue I found the lens to be fantastic. I know of issues with some pro Nikon super telephotos that suffer from fungus but not the 200-500 which I highly recommend.
Yes! Everything was exactly as you described, and it took me just a few minutes to roll back the grip, locate the offending screw - which, as you pointed out, had become more visible against the black by rubbing its paint off against the housing, and tighten it with a precision screwdriver. Much less involved by a whole order of effort than what I was anticipating when the lens got stuck
That's great to hear, thanks for taking the time to comment here, much appreciated.
Thank you very much. Save my lens
That's great news, thanks for taking the time to comment.

@@andreaskaphengst8121Thanks, I got a good deal on the Z9 firstly but the vertical grip and prolonged battery use were also important factors, as was the more durable magnesium alloy body.
Thanks for sharing this information. Very helpful indeed.

Hi !!! Just did what you suggested, thanks, worked perfectly without dismantling everything . Great job!!!
Great news, happy shooting, I've not had any issues since and that's about 2 years now.

Good nighht. Wildlife!you shared unusual !godspeed-

Why you downscaled it to full hd (2k) instead of upload it in 4k ?
The nikon D500 does have 1.4x crop factor due to DX sensor, plus an extra 1.5x crop in 4k mode (i think it's 2.1x total crop from a full frame equivalent) so adding the 1.4x teleconverter you got around 1700mm lens full frame equivalent shots, right ??
Exactly
@@wildlifesnapper1 How much did you paid this lens ?
@carminedepaola8018 I paid £3900 but that that was 2016, you can pick these up for £2000 and below depending on condition
@@wildlifesnapper1 I found one in very nice external condition (but the seller description said me that optically there is a little mold, but it does not affect the image) for around €1000+200 of shipping/fees You think I should buy it now or I might find a better price in future ?
@@carminedepaola8018 Mould will grow quite quickly and I would avoid that lens as damp is getting inside it from somewhere, there will be another one for sale without mould as many are now switching to Z lenses from F lenses.
The 600mm f4 D I AF-S (without VR) does have the same sharpness and optical performance of the VR one ?
VR on a 600 f/4 is pointless, you can't handhold these lenses as they are too heavy, this means you will need a tripod and as such needing VR is not going to be an issue. Yes, the sharpness is still superb, see my latest RUclips video which shows Herons in 4k shot on the 600.
Oh that face on that bird :). Love it. The video quality is wonderful and the bird chirping are very soothing. Great job my friend 💕🤗💕🤗🤗
You are so kind, thank you and stay well.
@@wildlifesnapper1 you too my friend :)💕🤗🤗🤗🤗
Stunning quality
My lens could only move between about 380mm and 500mm -- at 380mm, something would hit a hard stop and prevent me from retracting the lens any further, even with considerable force/torque. As such, I wasn't able to retract the lens far enough to reveal the screw you point out at 5:46. I ended up having to remove that shroud after all, which wasn't too bad: - With the lens at 500mm, I removed the screws with the nylon sleeves that are visible in the round holes to the left of each of the rectangular cutouts. (I don't know whether this step is necessary.) - I removed the rubber grip entirely (just pull it towards the lens mount) - This reveals a black and silver metal ring, connected firmly to that plastic shroud. - As mentioned by Kaleem Ahmed in ruclips.net/video/xF_bkZD2c0Q/видео.html (about 50 seconds in), the plastic shroud is held onto the black/silver metal part with adhesive. - I was able to slide the edge of my Jimmy (from iFixit) into the gap between the plastic shroud and the metal part, which gave me leverage to push the shroud forwards (towards the front of the lens). I worked my way all the way around the lens doing this, and once I had moved the shroud forward by a millimeter or two, I was able to slide it forward the rest of the way by hand. Once the shroud is off, sure enough, one of the three screws was sticking partway out, and the black coating had worn off the top. After tightening that back down, I could retract the lens all the way. Putting it back together: - Slide the plastic shroud back down. It'll only go all the way down in one orientation, so try rotating it a third or two thirds of a rotation if you can't get it back into place. My adhesive is still sticky enough that I'm not worried about this part moving around after the repair. - Zoom the lens to 500mm, put the screws + nylon sleeves back into place into the round holes next to each of the rectangular holes. - replace the rubber grip.
Thank you very helpful will video helped me sort my lens out with the same problem
I'm pleased that you are up and running again, it's a pity that Nikon have handed manufacture of this type of lens over to the Chinese as, sadly they are not as well manufactured as those pro lenses that still come out of Japan
@@wildlifesnapper1 this is why im thinking of changing brands
@mjtphotography be careful though, they are all, and I mean all, using China as a cheaper manufacturing base. Especially for mid and none pro camera gear, camera's, lenses and video camera's.

Not bad. Got thru some of those twigs pretty good actually
Thanks, yes, the difficulty is putting your trust in the drone to do what it should be capable of doing. The problems will however arise when you expect too much from the obstacle avoidance system. Others on youtube have fallen foul of overconfidence. Also bear in mind that it does not work at night and in low light.
@@wildlifesnapper1 wise words. Thank you
Looks good, i just started and my flight is way too quick. But i know what i did wrong. The thing i kept thinking in your video was....is he goint through the arc?😊
Thanks, if you mean you were waiting for me to go through the window then I did that but the wind had picked up and the footage was not smooth as the drone was being blown around. I will however re shoot that another day.
I have now flown through the arch window.
Congratulations on your first flight. Looks like you managed it well

How much (£) are they please? Also, as a new 4-eyes I came here because I was looking to find out what type of cloth is the best for cleaning classes. Any tips? Thank you in advance.
You can get 250 wipes on ebay for about £22
always spray the cleaning solution onto the wipe, not the lens
These wipes are already pre soaked in alcohol, so no sprays are needed. Thanks for the comment.
settings??
from memory lens was wide open at f/4 and the shutter speed was either 1/250 0r 1/500 at ISO 400 but you would have to experiment, either way, those settings will get you somewhere near. With hindsight I should have put them on this video but as its been 5 years now I am guestimating. Thanks for the question, and thanks for watching.
That is very clear footage.
The 4k capabilities of the D500 are excellent.
Excellent video!
Many thanks, I am still using my 2 Nikon D500's on a daily basis.
Very helpful and easy to understand instructions - sadly my lens does not retract far enough for me to see the otherwise hidden screws.
Thanks for the kind words. You can force the lens, if the screw has dropped out then the zoom shroud is plastic and the screw tends to scratch the inner shroud and not the outer barrel so any marks are not visible. It's up to you if you want to try that though but if you want the strip down instructions I'm happy to send them?
It’s tempting but I will instead have it repaired by a technician through the London Camera Exchange 😊
@@andyyacoub466 that is obviously an option but will be costly, good luck.
Brillaint thank you. Worked a treat 👍👍
Great to hear, happy snapping
This problematic shit happened again. This lens fucking sucks.
Sorry to hear that, I guess Nikon must have a screw loose putting most of their lens assembly in China!!
I have had my 200-500 for about two years now without any issues, until today when I finished a session and could not close the zoom down below about 250mm. I immediately found that it was stuck in that position. I had read on various forums that this was a known issue and that it had something to do with an internal screw coming loose but hoped I would never have to deal with it. Thankfully I found your video and felt confident enough to attempt a repair. I folded back the rubber grip then removed the tape and metal strips. This exposed the three “windows” however with the lens stuck at 250mm none of the offending screws are visible. I had to get pretty physical with the lens in order to get it to move at all. Eventually it became free and I was able to move it all the way out to 500. I found the position where the screws were visible, but testing with a screwdriver they all seemed as tight as I could get them. I took a risk and closed the lens down to 200 and to my horror found it was stuck again. ! Using force, I managed to get it to zoom out. I decided my only option at this point was to put everything back how it was and tape something near the top end of the barrel to prevent me closing it past 250mm. So that is what I have done.
I have the complete strip down instructions if you would like them, there is another issue which can make the barrel stick but you would need to strip the lens further to find the offending screw. I have sent these instructions to many people now and all have managed to resolve the issue?
Wow, thanks for responding so quickly. I would be very interested in seeing them. I would read through , then decide if I had the tools/ skill to go further :-) do you need an email address or do you just have a link ? thanks in advance . Martin. @@wildlifesnapper1

please any help my lens stuck on 200mm and i cannot able to reach those srew is there any way i can fix it
You should be able to force the zoom to locate the screw, any resistance should only scratch the plastic sleeve and not the lens barrel and this is not visible. If you are reluctant to do this then I can email the strip down guide to you which others have found helpful?
