There are 4 players with over 700 home runs: Ruth, Pujols, Aaron and Bonds. Even though Bonds has the most home runs, he impresses me the least. Pujols and Aaron never hit 50 in a season, but were consistent for many years. Ruth played during a time when no one else was coming remotely close. Bonds shot up the list due to his steroid use. So he may have the record but not the respect.

Babe Ruth really revolutionized the game. He shot so far above all of his peers, and only after his example do you see the others pick up. Gehrig and Foxx were the only ones within his galaxy for a good stretch of time. That's why he's the G.O.A.T.

If you pause it at 3:48... you see Cobb, Speaker and E. Collins as the top 3 in hits all time in the American League...which is kind of cool because they were all on the same team (Philadelphia Athletics) in 1928.

Rose has the most hits. That said. He is not in the top 20 all time as a hitter! No hall of fame for a man who bet on baseball while he managed a team! EVER!

Unfortunately, hits are no longer a big deal nor is batting average. Home runs or strikeouts is where baseball went and took the excitement with it. Unless the metrics in MLB change, the top ten we see now will be cut in stone.

Of all the players since World War II, the player to come the closest to making this list was Stan Musial. He retired in 1963 with 177 triples, just 5 shy of making this list.

Lets face it. Babe Ruth is the true Home Run King! If he did not ever become a pitcher, He probably have 1000 homeruns in his career.

Babe Ruth is the only home run king the 2 guys that did beat his home run record who were Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds were both using performance enhancing drugs, Barry Bonds with steroids and Hank Aaron with amphetamines

It’s crazy to see no rungs being cleared in the late 70’s / early 80’s. I think some Vietnam bound baseball players could’ve smashed a few HR records along the way
