@@Kewickviper one mulligan per game, decided after you’ve seen your original starting hand but before security is placed. Reshuffle and draw a new hand and then place security

@@cawabunga360 nope! You cannot set your opponent past 10 memory, so if any thing you play would do that, you can’t play that card. So at minimum you would need 4 memory to play a 14 cost card As for delay effects via security, you won’t ever be able to activate the main effect if it was placed in the field via its security effect, bc the main effect is also what places it on the field. But you can activate its delay effect

@@cawabunga360 digimon in the breeding area are unaffected by everything but also cannot do anything(unless an effect EXPLICITLY mentions the breeding area)! The breeding area exists in its own separate little world where suspension doesn’t exist either! The only thing a Digimon in the breeding area can do is provide a color for the purposes of playing options!

@Shocari No sorry hehe, just happen to stumble across a digimon tcg vid and I got curious and watched this. Im kinda thinking if the digimon atk are directed to the security at default or they have the freedom to choose btwn security cards or the opposing digimon

@@benetite_ so i made a video right before this that goes over all the basic mechanics of the game! this is just an in-depth look at most of the mechanics that were out at the time of recording! digimon can attack either the opponent's security or their suspended digimon(some can attack unsuspended digimon).

@@benetite_ sadly we'll probably never get an official one :( game's been out since like 2020-21 and nothing other than a tutorial app. there's a couple of unofficial sims out there, though

So the way the game is structured the phases are thus: Unsuspend phase > draw phase > breeding phase > main phase. During your main phase, as long as you have memory, you can do whatever you want in whatever order you want. There is no singular battle phase as battles are unique to each attack. So yes, you could attack, digivolve, attack with something else ad infinitum(until you're out of memory)!

The memory system prevents the solitaire feeling that Pokémon and modern Yugioh create, as it encourages players to really think about what card(s) they should be playing during their turn, instead of the same couple of combo lines that lead to most games feeling the same. IMO Digimon took the best parts of the big 3 TCGs(plus Vanguard/BSS) and left out all of the bloat to be able to keep games relatively short and concise, but still full of tension and meaningful interaction that literally makes every card count.

@Shocari ill agree on your points on pokemon and modern yugioh as those games are so heavily meta focused that 98% of cards are unplayable. I've really settled on mtg specifically edh format as there are alot of fun playstyles to be had where there are many plays you can make per turn. I've only played a little cedh as it suffers from alot of the same problems modern yugioh has. Digimon feels very cookie cutter to me and is oddly tough for me to get my head around. It's the card game I've struggled to learn most for some reason and my best guess is the memory system. You're right about it forcing you to really think about each card you play but it also has the inverse feeling of playing the wrong card and just feeling bad about it. Different strokes for different folks I'm sure. I love the artwork in the Digimon tcg they are some of the best I've seen in any card game. I wish I flowed with the game better

I'm glad you enjoyed both the guide and the deck! We now have another version in the form of Seven Great Demon Lords, which is like probably 85% similar in terms of gameplay!

@@greenhillmario Usually pretty good! 2 copies of the deck can go pretty far! Fortunately the two new starter decks are also releasing alongside a new set that also contains support with them so you can tweak the deck immediately if you want to!

Thankfully it’s not nearly enough of a technical nightmare as Yugioh!

We’re currently in BT16, and there are some cards from BT1 that still see competitive presence! Things do get gradually stronger over time of course, but the inherent design of the game keeps things relatively balanced for the most part, and there’s really only a handful of cards that fetch a higher price tag(ShineGreymon Ruin Mode, for instance, but it’s also a secret rare and a high power blowout card that you’re only running one copy of anyway). Most of my decks I’ve built for $60 or less!

While yes, it is based on DP, it's also technically based on their Level since no Level 2 Digimon has a DP value. Mother D Reaper also isn't Level 2, either, os yes while the DP stipulation does affect King Drasil and Gate of Deadly Sins, they(alongside D Reaper) are also very niche, very fringe cases, though I did not in the video itself that there are exceptions(and they were not worth covering for an introductory video, imo).

Were there any ones in particular? I might have explained one or two wrong, but I had the official rules and FAQs pulled up as I was writing this as well as having those linked so others could double check on their own

@@Shocari 2 off the top of my head: I saw multiple videos saying that there was no mulligans and a few saying that if you run out of cards then you lose. Both you stated the opposite. But idk, maybe you have the newer rules?

@@MakaiKishiZero you get one mulligan per game. world.digimoncard.com/rule/pdf/manual.pdf page 5, “setting up the game”, section 4. Mulligans were added last year or maybe the year before. Perhaps the videos you saw were from before that? If you cannot draw a card at the start of your turn, you lose. This was stated in the previous video, “how to play the Digimon tcg 2024”! I believe in this video I said that you can’t lose if you would activate an effect that makes you draw cards but are unable to, which is true. Pokémon has the same rule. The game only cares if you can’t draw as part of the natural phase of the turn. Same link as above, page 12c “ending the game”.

To my knowledge, almost every token has a play cost given to them for the express purpose of being able to be targeted by certain effects. Mother D-Reaper would be exempt since she doesn’t have a cost though.

@@Shocari Dang, alright thank you for the reply. I'm brand new to this game and coming from YuGiOh and Magic this game feels almost too straightforward sometimes. That being said I heckin LOVE WarGreymon so this actually came up when playing with a friend, eventhough Mother D-Reaper would have been immune due to it's own protective effect we were not able to find the answer to this question in any FAQ or ruling statement.

Blocker is indeed the only way, outside of some kind of “when your opponents digimon attacks” effect that would allow you to delete the digimon or reduce its dp etc. Non-suspended digimon effectively do nothing defensively

TCGplayer is always a decent choice!

Millith is the main milling strat in Digimon, utilizing the red/purple Guilmon line alongside Lilithmon, and it’s quite effective! It has top cut some tournaments as far as I’m aware! Apocalymon can also mill tremendously and was limited to 1 as a result because it was very easy to slap down 4 of them in one turn and mill your opponent for 32 cards right then and there, although with the limit the deck doesn’t really care about doing that anymore.

There's litterally a tutorial app for kids to learn the basics. I play it with my 14 y/o brother and he can pull off some good combos every now and then

Take the time to teach your kids and make it fun, and if they’re too young when they’re older you’ll be able to play together for sure

It was explained! After the breeding phase is the main phase, in which you play cards until the memory passes. So you can take any action and as many as you wish until the memory passes to the opponent. Turn 1 this usually means either digivolving a 3 onto the egg and/or playing one additional card, since you’re starting at 0.

Not necessarily a bad thing! Experimentation is part of the fun! I personally try to just find archetypes that are similar to ones I enjoy in other tcgs!
