There's probably a better way to do live fadeouts (I typically automate them in a normal "studio" track, but that method doesn't exactly work for this kind of live take)--I'll figure it out! Thanks for watching!

All the instruments are from a VST called Medusa2, which has some really primitive waveform tones (Sine, saw, triangle, etc.). I added a bitcrush over the entire mix, which contributes to the "Fez-ness" of the song. I know that Disasterpeace actually uses the plug-in Massive for all the Fez music (there's a great tutorial video he made) but I didn't actually use that for this track. Sounds close enough!

Thanks! I compose everything directly in Renoise! I typically use a MIDI keyboard to enter notes, often recording a performance "live" while the song is playing back. In this example, I had the basic chords and melody in mind, and I entered the bassline of the song into the far left channel first, then recorded the performance of the chords and melody separately.

I usually try to write "compositional ambient" music, where there's a distinct melody or structure, but it's still minimal or quiet enough to keep the piece feeling ambient overall. On this one, I think the clarinet adds a warm contrast to the synth sounds--I'm really happy with how this turned out, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Agreed on the clarinet, I don't know much about music in general but it feels more "organic" compared to the sci-fi ambiences that feel like you're sitting right in front of a box fan. I'll be keeping this on loop for a while, but I'm looking forward to whatever you make next ✨
