Twisted Aussie Native gets a pot.

I've been growing this Aussie Leptospermum Tea Tree, and a couple others, for a few years now. It's been worked, neglected, and worked again, but now it's time to give it some love and get it in a decent soil mix to help it regain some strength.

Just catching up on a few little tidy up jobs to round out the year. Time to take a little break until the new year, probably a very little break because I do enjoy making these videos. Hope you all have a happy holiday and I'll see you in 2025.

Fuck it I'll swear , fucking awesome stuff ,I always love a progression vid , n that's like a teaser to next series,👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Haha thanks mate. It's one of the cool things I was wanting from what I'm doing, to be able to watch a tree change from nothing to something.
👍👌
That was grouse seeing the changes you made in one video 👍
It is cool to be able to watch the changes over a long period, sometimes I forget where they started.
@ not only tree but shows your skills and knowledge growing too
@@thetreestyler 100%
So good mate transformation
Mostly why I started this channel was so I could look back like that and see where my trees started and how they'd changed, it's pretty cool.
@@Bearded_Bonsai Same it was a video diary for me. I enjoy styling trees and making vids😁
I'm exactly the same mate. Good stuff 👍
👍👌
Decisions, decisions oh boy its endless... looks great in the pot. Cheers David
It could go either way haha
What bonsai mix are you using? Cheers.
It's a home made mix of scoria, perlite and zeolite. I plan on adding some pumice to the mix and maybe some akadama to see how that goes.
An awesome bench tour. A lot of great looking trees here. Thanks for the tour!
Thank you 👍
👍👌
G’day Dave, have you had success reporting these in summer or better to wait till spring?
Spring is probably the best. This one was done in late November, so almost Summer. If it was in active growth and the weather conditions weren't looking too bad for a week or two, I'd be happy to repot it and put it somewhere protected with plenty of water for a few weeks, but that's just me.
@ cheers mate. I might just slip pot it then and do a bonsai repot spring. Cheers for the advice. 😉👍🏻
Probably for the best. My next video is another Leptospermum that I repotted about 5 days ago, it's still looking good after the repot but it's also hidden away in the shade with auto misters watering it morning and afternoon.
@ cool. Look forward to it. I’ve gotta at least scrape the surface soil back on mine as it’s crusty as. I’ll upsize it in a large plastic pot and give it a style. Hey, can I ask what you use to edit your videos? Going to have a crack and seems to be heaps of different opinions out there. Any advice would be really appreciated.
@@BonsaiAnyone I use Wondershare Filmora. I was fortunate enough to buy it back when you could get an actual lifetime license, unfortunately now you need to pay a continuing subscription fee. Filmora works OK, I stick with it mainly because I know how to use it and I don't really want to have to learn another editing program if I don't have to. If I was going to switch, I'd probably look at DaVinci Resolve, it seems to get rave reviews and I believe the free version has most features that you'd need.
nice, the flowers are really light, the ones on my big fella were real dark blood red
The dark red will look good in flower. These ones should be a darker purple, I think this one had old, faded flowers.
Maybe one of the trunks could be shorter?you could cut the current plastic pot down, just a thought, tfs😊
That's probably not a bad idea with the trunks, give it a bit of asymmetry. I think I'll wait until I get a pot for it and can decide for sure on a front and go from there. Thanks.
Have to get a bigger pot maaate
My pot radar is on haha
Out of control mate. !
Yeah I don't really remember that one when I potted them all up, but it's probably on the original video. Not sure what I was thinking to be honest haha
Thats a monster David 😮... when you get a pot give us a show.. cheers ( little fella) 😂😂😂
For sure. Just gotta find a big enough pot that won't cost the earth. Thanks.
lol - yeti foot 😂. What soil did use for this one?
I reckon leave the foot, just a bigger pot mate 👍🏻😉
It's just gone back into a standard potting mix for now. Once I find a pot that it'll fit into, I'll put it into a bonsai mix and we can also have a better look at how the big Yeti foot will look all exposed above the surface haha
👍👌
👍👌
Just missed the live 😮 the tree looks terrific David. I think the tree is tall enough and the pot is sweet as
Thank you. I think it looks pretty good too. Just some continual refinement work now 👍

Luv my swampys
Growing them in water makes the roots thicken up very fast. They can turn into a huge wooden knot. I recommend root pruning every year otherwise you may never get them into a bonsai pot.
Thanks for the pointers. I might have to do some root work on them sooner rather than later.
Nice work David 👏
👍👌
I didn't get to finish this vid last time so back again. Def try the thread graft mate if you don't get and buds.
I've been thinking about it more since the video and it makes sense to try to use that low back branch and thread graft a branch on the side. I reckon I'll give it a crack. Cheers.
The tea tree cant stop growing !
She's a good grower. I'm noticing a bit of yellowing in the foliage of my trees since changing to a more inorganic mix though, it's more evident on camera I think, so I'll have to look at what fertiliser I'm using and maybe add something with trace elements in it.
I enjoy experimenting on trees...so much fun. Thanks again
Thank you. It's an exciting wait to see how they'll turn out.
you are doing a great job. what fertiliser do you use for your natives?
Thank you. I just use about 50/50 dynamic lifter and blood and bone in a cotton tea bag. Works well, the bag looks a bit ugly but it's better than me forgetting to fertilise my trees for months haha
Mate one day U,LL blink n that bottle tree will be huge
Funny but true 😂
Thanks mate, I sure hope so. It would be cool to have a bottle tree with big old fat trunk taking pride of place out front.
Your getting humid thunder storms in Australia and we are due snow here in Ireland 😂 your guava has some lovely movement and starting to get a nice root base to it a lovely tree 🌳 hopefully your safe with your weather. All the best mate 👍
Yeah we are all safe at the moment, has been some nasty weather around but not in our immediate area. I'm already looking forward to the end of summer though, our heat can be relentless. The tree is coming together I think, a lot closer to a nice bonsai than when I started with it, so I'm happy with that. Thanks.
Coming along nicely David 👍
Thanks. I think it's starting to look OK too.
Lovely tree to start the year would like to see you demo tye threading.
That's a pretty good idea, I should give it a go. Thanks 👍
This tree looks the goods
Thanks mate, not 100% happy with it yet but it's a lot better than where it started.
Great looking trees 🌱
Thank you 👍
Nice collection Sir, I got kind of same trees atm, I'm located in qld and find out that the best for Australian conditions are the natives and tropical.
Thanks mate. The natives definitely grow best for me, that's for sure, although there's a couple exotics that seem to do OK too.
happy new year mate!
Happy new year!

Happy New Year mate 🎉 Thanks for the tour, looking like a great selection of plants to keep you busy lol 😊 Is your farm around Gin Gin? Been searching for the empty tea bags but can’t find them any suggestions for me please
Thank you. I do like to stay busy haha. Yes we are in the Gin Gin area. These are the bags I've been using --> www.ebay.com.au/itm/174857860655?_skw=tea+bag&itmmeta=01JGGAKV3H3XTZ69JYGVAQJRYQ&hash=item28b657362f:g:cGAAAOSwmFhb0AJ8
Thanks heaps for the link David and thought it was around there somewhere I looked at properties up that way but wife didn’t want to move that far away. Nice farm 👍
It was some of the best value for money property around when we bought, but yes it's a bit out of the way for some.
Happy new yr mate
Happy New Year to you too mate.
The rooster hahaha. I have a Jaboticaba too mate. not that big. 16.00 the bark on the casuarina! Cheers David. Lots of trees in development mate. Just enjoy your trees and the subs will come. Happy New Year !
That Jaboticaba would be 25 years old, it would have been 2002 or 2003 when I dug it and put it in a pot. Lot's of trees everywhere here haha. Happy New Year mate.
Happy new year mate, love the idea of the eucalyptus growing a native species and a challenge throughout Australia. Plenty of trees to learn from. Hope you have a great growing year 👍
Thank you. The natives definitely have the best growth rates, for me anyway. Happy New Year!
Nice bench fella. Watching

@thetreestyler That's awesome, I'll have some good bonsai material to watch over the break. I've got a ham brining in the fridge to go in the smoker Christmas morning, will make some adult eggnog as well, I'll be a merry fat man by the end of the day haha. Just me and the Mrs at home this year so it'll be pretty chilled. And yeah, it's a pretty safe bet that I'll touch some trees, might even go for a dig somewhere.
@@Bearded_Bonsai I have my kids so had to be organised and leave the trees alone. Cheers mate
The ride of its life!!! Its all good to try different styles. I agree that this one would take too much time to keep maintained. I dont freak out now when doing the native roots, i know its going to be a chop fest. But they cant stay like that for bonsai. Cheers mate
Yep, it always just looked like a little shrub, except for the first week after pruning and wiring, when it actually looked a bit wind swept. It's now "go hard or go home", I'll give it a bit to recover, then it'll be pushed further to become a tiny little upright of some description.
