60s AM Radio CBS Labs Audio Processing Sample
I've been putting together a selection of 60s & 70s CBS Labs audio processing for quite a while now and am planning to film a series of videos about them for the channel...
This is just a short sample; lots more to come about these classic boxes!
In this video: CBS Audimax III (AGC compressor) & CBS Volumax 400 (peak limiter).
I've got a couple of other CBS boxes to show you in the future, too...

Replacing an 8-Track Pad Without Punching Holes in the Label
Просмотров 40Год назад
I recently purchased an absolutely gorgeous 8-track of Gordon Lightfoot’s 1969 “Back Here On Earth.” There’s only one problem - the pad is shot and in order to replace it, I would usually have to punch holes in the pristine label. I found a way around that, which I share with you in this video! If you dig 50s/60s/70s music, check out my radio show, the Stax O’ Wax Show. It’s a live show where I...

Adjusting Sony PS-LX300 USB Turntable Speed
Просмотров 27 тыс.6 лет назад
In a previous video, ruclips.net/video/nj18DqnN5ms/видео.html, I reviewed the Sony PS-LX300 USB Turntable. In that video, one of the negatives I gave was that the turntable speed on mine was slightly off from the factory. In this video, I'll show you how to fix that issue. This same fix works on many other modern turntables as well.

    Most loop antennas are inductively coupled to the loop antenna in all receivers. If the receiver has an external antenna input for MW(AM). As far as a ground connection, never connect the ground to the the AC ground of your home. You may be living in a building with poor electrical wiring, which can damage your receiver, and electrocute you! To ensure a proper ground for your antenna you'll need a copper stake, crushed charcoal, salt and water. Prepare the soil where the ground is located. Add to the soil in order: charcoal, salt, water, ground stake. For best conductivuty keep it moist . If you live where you can't plant a ground stake, you can still have a ground. Fill up a gallon jar with natural soil, salt and crushed charcoal. Fill the jar halfway. Solder a piece of wire to a 3×5 or 4×6 pcb and placei into the jar. Put in the remaining soil mixture. Connect the antenna and ground to the external inputs . In the event of a storm disconnect the antenna from the receiver, as electrostatic discharge can damage your receiver. I use a loop wiyh a variable capacitor to tune in stations and to null out interference. Hope this info helps.

    My first experience with high-speed recording was with the Uher Reporter reel-to-reel-the sound quality at max speed was jaw-dropping. Now, with my Marantz SD 3020, which I reviewed on my channel, I’m diving into various tapes and speeds, even using my guitar to reveal its capabilities. The precision of these machines is remarkable!

    Hi Mike thx for your video. I got this platine from one of my friend because he found the sound was not good and ask me my advise. I am first very surprised by the weight/force put on the cell. When the arm goes down it really crashes down (an airplane landing like that on a tarmac would not survive I think) the saphir letting the small yellow cap at less than one millimeter from the disk. Is it normal ? I can add that I try to mesure the weight with a micro balance (1-200g) and I found that the saphir weight is 4,79 g. I found it very high but it s perhaps normal for this kind of entry level platine. Thx in advance for your feedback backs.

    Multitrack cassette recorders often ran at the 3.75 ips speed... some models featured both 1 7/8ths and 3 3/4ths speed and the cheap ones only at the 1.78 (avoid those) speed. Like others have said, I wish cassette deck makers back in the day had a double speed feature. Has anyone here experimented with multitrack recorders (featuring 3 3/4ths ips speed) for recording LP's and such?

    Thank you! I HAD attempted to do this before with a strobe, and I got the speed fairly close, but it was a little fast. Was pleased to see this video to remind me what to do. This time I used an app. The big problem is actually finding the screw slot to pop the screwdriver into. Probably took me 45 minutes to sort. Initial attempts, we unsuccessful, since it became obvious I didn't find the slot! Then eventually I DID adjust it, but now it was too slow!. More attempts, back to too fast! EVENTUALLY I got is spot on! Compared playing a vinly track in sync with the same track on Spotify. They were IN SYNC! Phew!!

    Why are they placing these pods in a so inconvenient place? They could have moved them on the back with 2 potentiometers instead. I get that you don't adjust the speeds of your turntable that often, but when you need to, you have to have a special stand or table with holes to reach the bottom of the unit, lol. I'd happily pay an extra few $$$ to get a more convenient placement.

    • @mikestech1119
      @mikestech1119 Год назад

      No doubt the placement is a bit inconvenient adjustment-wise but it seems like placing these pots on the bottom is pretty standard. I've got several other turntables from other manufacturers that do the same thing. The best solution? Buy a Quartz-locked Technics turntable. You'll never have to set the speed again.

  • @jricoc3475
    @jricoc3475 Год назад

    This helped a lot. I never would have imagined this was so readily resolvable. I used a 2.4mm precision driver, You have to press fairly firmly and twist to catch the screw slot through the rubber protector. Clockwise turn to increase speed, I cut about a 1/2 inch of toilet paper roll to use as a stand for the phone. That's important, because it allows you to place the phone over the center spindle. My adjustments took about ten minutes, and I got to a reading of 33.30. The sound has been restored to virtually normal. Thanks for the tip(s) ...

    Just got done doing this to my turntable. You really have to use a tiny screwdriver. I used a 1.2mm flat head. Then you have to push past the black soft part and actually make sure it's clinging onto something. Then you have to make the most MINOR of adjustments. Took me about 10 tries overall but I finally got super close to 33 1/3. Thanks for the video!

    Great post. Can’t see the radio very well but it looks cool!! I’m getting materials now for my 250’ SW long wire antenna. Amazingly with a 20’ random wire I’ve been able to pickup several European stations targeting the americas. Including the weird numbers station stuff. Looking for a good lightning arrestor… safety first. 😊

      Good idea on the lightning arrestor. Impressive that you've been able to pick up some European stations. I've always wanted to get into shortwave but never have. The radio is a Tivoli Model II. The AM tuner on it is pretty poor, bringing in only the strongest of stations. With this antenna upgrade, it picked up a whole lot more. My dad now has it in his office in a nearby city to play CDs.
