The Talk: Content is the new currency in new media, especially in advertising circles. Predictions about the end of advertising as we know it feel as if they’re coming true. As the agency model shifts from interruptive bursts toward creating original content, some guidelines are beginning to appear. Legacy magazine publishers are struggling with the digital world for reasons that might not always be so obvious. Minority publications have an even greater challenge. But once they embrace that digital is not just a new publishing medium but a platform to reinvent the brand and “re-contextualize” a wealth of assets for a whole new audience, the opportunities are endless.

This "geobrowsing" effect provides location context and will give XOHM members...

"The hallmark of any great brand is authenticity just ask Harley-Davidson, Coke or Apple, especially when all of these brands lost their way and learned from it. Same thing applies to Brand You. In every tweak of a template, upload and keystroke, you have an opportunity to be authentic or disingenuous. Know what makes you special and unique, and tap into those qualities as you build your person...

describing content marketing, 10 years ago!
Wow, just discovering you and this was done in 2009. Love it! We're seeing this everywhere now! I follow blogs and vlogs who educate me on whatever topic I'm interested in at the moment; For example (trying to save money & color my own hair) - I follow some hairdressers on RUclips who teach how to die your hair blonde at home! Here are the products I use; Here's how long it took; Here's what I learned, etc. etc. It's just such a supportive way to pull in business. :)
....and then came open-source model.
why did the point not take off?
I'd assume it's because: if people gained funding to legalize recreational weed, how would they implement that funding? This kind of thing isn't easy to set up. There would need to be a lot of provablity before people took it seriously. Groupon was the path of least resistance
But "Can you feel it" really had no words. The "in the beginning" speech was laid on top of it by someone else.
Aunt Leah's On RUclips :)
I've seen a few people trying this!
Love it. We are going to be launching a new educational series soon to help out marketers all based around SMS Marketing for small businesses. Very excited to apply this.
I wish I had learned about this before. I would signed up in a heartbeat.
still reading...my own blog is stilted because my daughters are reading!
Sharing and teaching as marketing, great point! however bad analogy. Every person he mentioned created "BRANDS"...He purchased from Brands...CHEFS who got PAID to be on television. Not the local cook at a grocery store that gives cooking classes. Businesses do not give away things because you can't make money giving everything away. Still some great points to consider in here in regards to "culture" and how that impacts sales via marketing.
Extremely useful insights about sharing.
there is nothing new in this video, i did not learned anything.
I was frustrated.. (about ready to die actually LOL) chasing the "marketing method of the month".. Today's children might be looking at "holograms" of marketing messages from beams blasting out of their smart phones.. While the methods of marketing and making money change.. The principles are the same.. Learn how? to "reap the profits" of using "secret stealth" marketing methods.. Combined with with timeless marketing wisdom that "inspires buyers to take action".. Visit: MysteryToSuccess(dot)com
Check Deep Shift Labs Development blog (post 'Bolgging') - we show how this works for us so far.
Wow! This is a very useful video. I'm going to take this info and run with it.
Great Job Dad! Love your Daughter!
He's still selling records, i've bumped into him a few times here and there!
So glad that Bruce Montgomery had the vision to see the value of uniting to create the next generation of digital media leaders of Chicago's Creative Class and making it happen. Kai EL' Zabar
This is great, Jason - thank you - definitely right that you can't copyright an idea - but you can patent it... (and yes I know your reaction to that. ;) )
Love this, sounds like my new philosphy
@housemanchi I side with youmanchi ;)
@AppA ;-) Larry Sherman anyone?
...and is Rachael any better? Larry kept ALL the Trax artists' publishing & now she owns the catalog.
Andrew mason is a nice guy, really intellegent inmy opinion. 2011 i writing this and they have up to 120 million user! m not talking about casual users,NO.
The process of leadership is to turn your values into a compelling cause for others. How has your manager contributed to your success? slapCompany
This was really helpful..thanks Josh.
@skiffboy How am I harassing a client? I do no work for them. I'm calling attention to the pitfalls of sites like this and people supporting them. Get over yourself.
@skiffboy Sorry you feel that way. Stating that all you think I could do for you or your business is draw a pretty picture just proves my point. Crowdsourcing short changes a business. A good design process is not just the frosting to a cake, it can help support and grow a business; improve it to be more that face value.
Here is the business productivity app that truly unites all assets in a collaborative, cloud based environment. Projects, Contacts, Documents, CRM, and more: all under one Rule. ruclips.net/video/LCGDycufzFs/видео.html
We should consider using the same model for lawyers and doctors, hey, then maybe designers could afford legal services for clients who don't pay and cheap healthcare.
They might know what they like design-wise, but that doesn't mean they have a clue what is good design.
Hi Josh, I know this video of yours is old, but i found it very helpful - still very relevent. Thanks - Amy S.
$200 for a logo with 110+ designers... if ever designer only spent 1 hour on the design then that means companies are paying the design community $1.80 an hour for their work. Thanks US government for shafting the creative community. 99% of the designers get nothing but crowdSPRING is always getting at least 15% for doing none of the work. Designers... STOP DOING SPEC WORK! Do not support these trolls.

I like his communicational skill. It's incredibly organized and clear.
Car companies should be listening to this talk...
He is right. After reading 'Rework' and learning from that we share the same outlook on business and the 'Minimalist' approach...I now believe that 37 Signals products are top of the line. If I ever need software and I discover that their product suite can assist me with, I will MOST CERTAINLY chose them. Remember, that I feel this way because he taught me something in Rework.
sincere delivery, good subject matter, but what they produce does rise to the lofty vision discussed.
@levrone2000 case and point, levrone formula haha
works for me.
The music is too loud for the narration.
Thank you! This is a true very informative video for those who look for results!!! All the best.
Fascinating and compelling stuff Doug and a most informative lecture. Thank you.
U bet your ass he's right. His products are outstanding!! I have used all types of CRM programs, and I can't believe I didn't run into these people before.
Still GREAT!
The only thing i'll agree with in that statement is that it's nice that the labels can't screw over artist's.
The playing field shouldn't be level, the talent should rise to the top! Who wants easy thats lazy, so what your saying is any goof can make a track, and i think thats a shame and why everythings become so watered down and most of the music being created now sucks, it can't even touch the tracks of the past!!!
Sorry rachael i don't wanna do things anyone can do, i want to do things most people can't!!! 9 out of 10 dj's today are phony!!! The oldschool dj's are the true masters, back then it took true talent! Vinyl is where it's at!!! Oldschool djing is a true art! and all this computer djing crap is ruining it! Most of the stuff being produced today is absolute la la commercial Junk, and i wouldn't buy that crap!!!
no words... :))
