@@andreasluder8091 its pretty precise, enough for model building. I bought all electronics and linear rails and ball screws from Germany company Sorotec. They have some cnc kits available as well, it may be cheaper to buy kit with all aluminium profiles and plates, than buy all parts separetly and design and cut everything by your self. I wanted special size machine, so I decided to do it by my self.

do you consider any offset when you cnc the mould for paint thikness?
In this case not really. Paint layer thickness is about 0,05mm

Hi! Great job, very neat and meticulous! I have a few questions, please answer them. Why didn’t you paint the model in the mold? You could have gotten an excellent surface and color. I am sure that gliders are painted in the mold, maybe it's different for F3A. What did you coat the mold with after milling? First epoxy resin(?), and then something green, what is it? Thanks!

Well Done. i have a few questions if you dont mind me asking and it would help me a lot if you do, 1. after you CNC the part what was that thing you brushed on the surface ? 2. what was the Blue color that came out of nowhere on the surface hehe 3. and how was it sooooo smooth man how did it became so clean and nice, no matter what i do my molds never comes off as clean as yours
Thanks. After first machining, I brushed epoxy on it. Then final machining. After white primer there is 2k acrylic paint. Sanding make it smooth lol😃

How do you get the mdf not to warp when you apply what I assume is epoxy or polyester resin? I just cut a thin sheet and after I applied resin it cupped upwards quite badly. I was using 0.75” mdf and cutting maybe half of that at the wing root.
You have to glue several mdf plates together, then its more stable

It is normal 2k acrylic paint

Thanks! Ribs are 3mm PVC foam(Airex) and 105g glass on both sides

Outstanding work, why don't you convert it into a 3D file so that it can be printed in 3D so you can get people to fly F3A those who can't afford the costs of an F3A, just a idea , best regards.
Please if you make more videos change the light from the beginning video that flickering is very annoying. Otherwise great work and video.

When starting the video, I noticed the wing placement seems to be too much forward... just wanted to know, it is designed to stall bottom wing first or is it the top wing?
How do you go from machined foam to glossy finish in the mold?

That "plane" looks like a fish with dragonfly wings. It's not a model of anything that looks like a real airplane. With all that great technology, you should make something that's pleasing to look at..

I'm impressed by your skill on CNC jobs! Can you share more of the finishing technic? I saw you seem to apply some epoxy resin bebore finishing pass, isn't it? And is the last coat automotive paint, or tool gelcoat?
IMHO - While this is a FANTASTIC build and KUDOs to the builder, fliers like myself who rather spend our time flying, an ARF and/or PNP F3A/Pattern plane will do. There are a few ARF F3A/Pattern planes out there and since there are a few distributors who are now selling PNP BALSA AEROBATIC planes, the few F3A/Pattern plane distributors MUST follow them and offer PNP BALSA F3A/Pattern planes to us fliers. The distributors who are selling the AEROBATIC PNP BALSA planes - which BTW you can do the F3A/Pattern maneuvers - sell out of these planes VERY FAST and are OUT OF STOCK most of the time until they get another shipment from China - that tells anyone how popular the PNP BALSA AEROBATIC planes are and those type of planes are creating an interest in the RC plane hobby just like the ARF did YEARS ago!!! - IMHO
Wow! That is the best CNC and construction technique I’ve seen. The cutter used on the molded fuselage and other surfaces is tiny. Hopefully you can work out the difficulties in performance with more analysis and time.

Thanks! I have two cnc routers. Both are own design. Most of the parts I ordered from www.sorotec.de/shop/ Spindles and VFD are from China

Excellent work and perfect documented! Thank you very much for sharing! To cut the laminated Fuse I have seen a bit expander inserted in the spindle. Can you give me a link where to buy it? For milling fuselage moulds the most bits are not long enough and I could not find a expander for 1/4" bits.
Wow, great use of the cnc and tool paths, especially when machining all of your features in the fuselage using the mold as a fixture!
No big deal, I used to watch twin engine Varsity's training in the early sixties with one engine feathered.

Great detail of an impressive build process. Could easily be a series of short videos highlighting particular steps of the process. Amazing craftsmanship. Most great designs are interactions, rarely is the first interaction have many perfect design features. Any interaction is just an example of the current lessons applied in an ongoing learning process.
Your cad/cam and model building skills are very impressive. Sorry your efforts didn’t quite work out like you had hoped.
Well, if you screw up the aerodynamics and basic weight and balance, no amount of fancy equipment and software will save the day. This is proof of why one should always do a sloppy prototype before moving to production grade processes.
Yes, I always need to try if I screw up everything or is ir success, many times its hard to know in advance. This was quickly and cheaply made prototype not for production. Also wanted to try few new production methods

Yes. I do this kind of thing as my full time job, so its not only hobby. Most of my machines and workshop is own design and self made from cheap stuff you can find from internet.

Thanks! Normally I use 1,5mm Airex core, but this fuselage I used 2mm. Its super stiff, but heavy. I think 1,5mm is best choice for F3A. Moulds have aligment pin holes, by using those its very simple to align it. I have milled matching holes to cnc table. CNC have homing switches, so it can calibrate it self and always know where my molds/jigs are located

@@nulas87 I have one more question about the wing lay-up. Are you using any layer on top of the foam core for sandwiching, or are there just two layers?
There is 50g glassfibre on both side of the Airex core
