    7:33 _“And that was the McLaren/Amon car, which started _*_well behind_*_ the Miles/Hulme machine.”_ but then you show a photo of the cars lined up at the start, with the #2 car (McLaren/Amon) just 2 spots behind the #1 car (Miles/Hulme)- to “well behind”, since it's just two positions back (so “barely behind” would be accurate). It's true that the #1 car got moving a bit later than many other cars, but that's not relevant here, since the position is judged by distance, not start time. Put another way- if Miles had crossed the finish line just 2 car lengths ahead of the #2 GT40, he would've gotten first by all accounts. Ford could've still gotten their photo finish and he would be #1 if he punched it in the last 10 seconds up to the line.

      Did you miss the part where Miles had to pit to get his door sorted out? He lost laps doing that. Seems a lot of people don't understand that the number of laps done is what determines the Winner. It's a 24hr Endurance race, not a 20-lap sprint, it involves many many pitstops for driver changes, fuel, mechanical repairs etc. When the 24hrs is up, the winner is the one that's done the most laps. It doesn't matter who crosses the line first, unless the other cars on the same lap have done the same number of laps.

  • @Triboro100
    @Triboro100 2 месяца назад

    What I never understood about the finish was that Track officials and historians always mention Miles was up 2 laps over McLaren, so really Miles covered more ground than McLaren regardless of him starting behind Miles. Miles was cheated out of the triple crown

    Surely the qualifying times determined the starting position so the car in front deserves the win despite who made the quicker time from behind, if Ken pulled up and let Bruce through so be it..shit call I think ✌🍻

    Duct taping the rear bodywork in place . . . The yellow MkIV (Mark Donahue) lost it's rear bodywork. He managed to prop it onto the car and limp back to the pits where it was duct taped in place. As a precaution the bodywork on the Gurney/Foyt car also received the duct tape treatment.

    That's another way at looking at it after all in Australia we have a very strict law about left hand drive card but any car that is right hand drive no problem that will include any vehicle from Japan South Africa and the UK and been right hand drive there would be no problem importing a Ford GT40 into Australia intact there are probably a couple in Australia

    When making a movie on actual events there is a little bit of poetic lisense as the finsh of the 1966 LeMans race was in rain were in the finish in Ford verses Ferrari it is in sun shine and the two Ford GT40s in the film they were much closer and we must not forget the Ford GT40 is a british car because its right hand drive if it was a USA car it would have been left hand drive because in most states in Australia you can not import a left hand drive unless its a certian age but you can import any right habd drive car any age into Australia and we get plenty of grey imports from Japan in Australia

      @Gurn_Blanston The main reason it's a british car the GT40 is right hand drive if at all it was from the USA it would be left hand drive

    A perfect example of failed american arrogance and thank god if loosing a few races means not having automotive hegemony considering design marvels such as the ford zephyr. Lets see ford taking over formula 1😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 The only reason ford ever won was on account of the dollars thrown at it. Ferrari equals passion. And time has proven them right. One point not made here is that had Ken Miles won LeMans that year, he would have been the only person to win the 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 hours of Daytona, and the 24 hours of LaMans in the same year. But I also wondered what happened to those laps ahead he was. I'm glad it was talked about here.
