RZR 900s Tire Mount
Yet another distraction from the Locost! We set out to build a better version of an existing design and end up with a carbon copy with poor fit up, so all in all a raging success.

    Are therre any tips or tricks you know about to get the bends/ corners in the nose cone right? Or do you recommend just trail and error lol

    • @leftfootfirst9847
      @leftfootfirst9847 2 месяца назад

      Oh I have lots of tips! - use small peices. I used about 2-3 wide strips and folded them into the bends so that the overlap was always on a flat section - chop strand mat. This is way easier to work into the corners, but if you get fibers folded over just pull it out and trash that section. Folded fibers never lay flat - weave mat. Use one layer of overlapping section of this to give a uniform surface that your roller won't snag all the time. - Roll, Roll, Roll! Get a small roller that fits into all the nooks. You should have all you fiber down and fully wetted out by about halfway through your working time, then really start rolling and compressing the fibers together. As you Roll some of the resin will squeeze out, mop that up with a brush and dump it in the garbage cup. You want to squeeze as much resin out as possible while keeping the fibers wet so this is the most important part. You should be rolling until the resin is getting really goopy and you can't Roll any more. Let me know if you have questions.

    • @leftfootfirst9847
      @leftfootfirst9847 6 месяцев назад

      I don't vent it, there is enough air leakage around the door for most days, if I am doing mig welding or running an engine I crack a door. You could put in a port in the garage door like muffler shops, or a through wall pipe, then stuff it with insulation when you don't need it and it's cold.

    Give the aluminum option some more thought. It’s easy to work especially with the relatively simple shape you need to make. It also doesn’t stink and no fibreglass dust. And very light weight. Or go with the carbon option. Light and strong. Plus epoxy doesn’t stink as much as polyester resin. That’s my two cents anyhoo.

  • @19mati67

    I'm not looking forward dealing with the cowl and hood, and I never worked with aluminum(fiberglass either) either, but I will attempt it. I already have the nose from Kinetic though. Why not just cut it at the center all the way to the nose, and jig it with some wood, to hold the width and re fiberglass it?

    Recently moved to a farm in a valley and suddenly have trails to ride everywhere. Dusted off my 06 500 IRS outlaw that I've had since 2010 and finally started using it. Proceeded to break it almost immediately but decided it would be a waste to not get back into it to enjoy the property properly. Figured I should just learn how to work on these myself and have since converted an old shed to a mini moto garage & picked up a parts bike (to fix my 500), an 07 outlaw 525 IRS, 08 honda 700xx and have eyes on a ktm 525 xc. Appreciate your videos on this! Trying to work out my way around the ktm rfs engines. Did you ever do a video on finishing the rebuild? I've heard that you can reuse the timing chain btw, you just need to reinstall it in the same orientation as it wears into the gears.

      It's pretty easy on small stuff like your nosecone. Just use a few blocks of wood on the back to space it and hold the two parts, then glue some playing cards over the gap, then glass over them. Don't worry if you need to drill extra holes to brace the parts, filling those with some resin later is pretty simple

And making progress. I’m almost done the chassis on mine. FINALLY!!! It’s a roller! But I’m still undecided on paint or powder for coating the chassis. I bought a kinetic nose a long time ago. And I was never really happy with it. So now I’ve cut it back up and am redesigning it to look more like the current 620R from Caterham. And I’ve discovered that I really like sculpting foam. Fast and satisfying to shape. Looking forward to seeing this new project you’re doing. 👍

    I'm going to be very honest here. This entire series has taken way too long. Like WAY too long. This is why even after 4+ years, you don't have many subscribers. The production needs a lot of improvement. I think talking so much up front makes it very boring. By the time you get to what I came here for, I'm half asleep. Sorry this next one is going to be extra harsh. Most random viewers here dont care about what you have to say. We come here to learn this and that, and if the talking doesn't directly pertain to how to do xyz, then most don't care. Please watch successful build channels. Watch their pace, production, etc. The great channels know when to talk and when to show work. Perhaps you could try silent film and do a dub-over narration explaining the actual work. It cuts out all the agonizing talking in the beginning.

    • @leftfootfirst9847
      @leftfootfirst9847 Год назад

      I appreciate the feedback and trust me, I wish more than anyone that progress was quicker and wasn't taking WAY too long. I do belive however that you have missed the ethos of this build, and this channel as a whole. While I would love to live the RUclips creator life, that is not what this is about, I started this channel to let people who are genuinely interested in the process ride shotgun to something few people will ever attempt, scratch building a car for themselves. I'm not after random viewers, I don't care about subscriber numbers, I'm not interested in Clash of Clans sponsorships, I just want to show people what it really takes to build a car. I will try to cut the talking down and maybe try the commentated silent film out, however that takes significantly more effort in post-production and as such will slow the progress even further. So long story short, I cannot give you cake and let you eat it too.
