The reason that inflation is so high is that government spending increased massively while the productivity of the economy remained stagnant. People on the receiving end of public funds could buy more, more people were coming into the country and receiving benefits while they stayed here but more was not being created. If you're an upper middle class person, you were not worried about paying more for groceries, you were receiving the benefits of cheap labor when you required the service of the trades. The last four years have been a massive redistribution of wealth from the bottom to the top. It's not the top 1% in conflict with 99% of the population, that was a fantasy created for political expedience. It's the top 20% in conflict with the bottom 40%, it's the public sector in conflict with the private sector, it's the people who provide labor that is essential to survival in conflict with the people who receive the benefit of that labor. If we do not take permanent steps in the direction of addressing the grievances of the working class in this country, we are headed for disaster as a society. For decades the upper class in this country have been discussing the problem of finding a use for the useless excess population in society as technology advances. But these are not the people who are going to be replaced by AI. The world we are entering is not going through the same process as industrialization and mechanization, although that continues at a slower pace. The people who will be out of the job are the bean counters, the pencil pushers, programmers replaced by AI programmers, administrators, human resources. You will still need a locksmith to change your locks, a farmer to harvest crops, a linemen to keep the power lines up, a logger to harvest wood, even a trucker because no trucking company is going to leave their cargo unattended on the road. Think of all the people who were classified as essential workers during the pandemic. Almost all of them were working class. Our government has punished productive enterprise and incentivized rent seeking behavior. The only economic activity which it has made easier is seeking cheaper labor from other countries. That is why we now have class conflict in America, that is why the public voted in their own interests to elect Donald Trump. If he had never entered politics, we would still have the same problem, and if we don't work together to fix it in the next four years, we will still have that problem.
