Gen-X Dad's 5 Strange Retirement Goals
Most of us Gen-X'ers are now approaching retirement, or have retired in. the last few years. Of course I have my normal list of things I want to do when I retire, like travel.
But I also have a list of more unusual things I want to do when I retire!
What are some of the more unusual things and hobbies you want to do when you retire?
Keep yelling at the clouds.
Be nice to each other!

Gen-X Dad Says DON'T "Fake It Till You Make It" ! It's Horrible Advice!
Просмотров 433День назад
While a few of the younger generations will work for progressive companies like google and shopify, most of you will still work in traditional roles, and find yourselves dealing with bosses ranging from the younger side of Boomers, all Gen-X'ers, and some older Millennials. Fake It Till You Make It, is a product of a different world that you won't be living in. It is terrible advice. Be genuine...
Help! I Need a Cover for my Novel!
Просмотров 2573 месяца назад
Hello Everyone. I’m looking for help in developing a novel cover for my coming of age 80’s book called Battery Hill. I’ll use it for you tube and wattpad, but I also intend to self publish a small run of books as well. For me the cover of the actual physical book is much more important than the virtual because really that’s my bucket list item. I’m okay with paying a small amount to someone who...
Shadows Over Tulsa: Chapter 1: A Strange Homecoming (Outsiders/Stranger Things Crossover)
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.5 месяцев назад
This is the first chapter in a project I started that combines some elements of Stranger Things with the world of The Outsiders. The events happen in the summer of '76, a couple years after the events of the book. I'm still working (editing) my first novel "Battery Hill" set in the 80's, but sometimes its fun to try something else. This story is not as polished as "Battery Hill" so hopefully yo...
Relive Bright Lights, Big City in 6 minute music video
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Set to The Church's haunting song "Under the Milky Way" relive this tour de force 80's movie in 6 minutes. While this 1988 film starring two of Canada's finest, Michael J. Fox & Kiefer Sutherland, isn't usually mentioned as one of the most iconic 80's movies I think it has unduly been forgotten. This is a great story of the excesses of the 80's and the road to redemption in the big city that ha...

Aldo Nova Dream Set List
Просмотров 4258 месяцев назад
While I have done my dream set lists for top selling artists Bruce Springsteen and Jimmy Buffett in the past, I decided to do something different and create one for the criminally underrated Canadian rock artist Aldo Nova. Aldo opened for my first concert ever in 1982, and I have tickets to see him again in November, over 40 years later. So here is my dream set list for that show, and some thou...
Follow Your Heart (80's movie tribute)
Просмотров 4 тыс.8 месяцев назад
Canada's second greatest trio Triumph"s "Follow Your Heart" (1984) baselines some 80's movie clips. Most of my vids I like to include a mix of stuff from around 75-95, the sweet spot for Gen-X'ers, and anything from movies, TV, celebrities, sports, wrestling, and just average people. However, for this one I stuck strictly to 80's movies. I hope you enjoy the video and take a few minutes to foll...
Thinkin' About the Years (Haywire) (Gen-X Tribute)
Просмотров 9489 месяцев назад
Aren't we all thinking about the years? They seem to go by so fast! Remember when the 2000's seemed like so far away from the 80's? Just crazy. The song is "Thinkin' About the Years" by Canadian pop/rock band Haywire. Clips may include; Adam West doing a commercial for Nick at Nite UHF some clips from a 60 Minutes special on Disco some clips from Haywire videos She's Having a Baby Blade Runner ...
Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead sings to Pee Wee Herman
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.10 месяцев назад
In July 2023 we lost two very interesting, talented, and controversial Generation X icons; Sinead O'Connor and Paul Reubens (aka Pee Wee Herman). At first these two obviously seem to be polar opposites in the seriousness scale, but we know that most comedians also have a very dark, serious side. The more I started to put this video together, the more it just felt right. Can you imagine Sinead s...
Never Surrender (Gen-X Tribute)

Hey Gen-X'ers, don't give up! Yeah the labour force sucks, yeah the stock markets and inflation make retirement a moving target, and yeah the global climate is going to hell. But hey, we'll always have our memories (at least until the dementia kicks in)! Clips include material primarily from the 70's-90's but all are Gen-X orientated. I got this extended version from you tube, someone had done ...

My Favourite Movie - Every Year from 2022-1940
I think I'm going to be having a John Hughes marathon soon. I have most, if not all, of these movies.
Aww, man, this is AWESOME, Gen X Dad! Even if some of the clips weren't technically from the '80s, it's still wayyy cool. I remember all of those movies/tv shows. And the music too! Best time growing up! Thanks for the nostalgic trip, dude!
Sammy Elliot watched TV whenever he could sneak over to our house!! His dad wouldn’t let him….. we watched Cowboys!!! Gunsmoke!!
John is a lot of ways raised me.
Best decade Ever!!!!
Damn right
terminator 1 came out in the 80s. 2 came out in the 90s but because the video is so cool, I can let it slide
Great song with great clips. Such memories
Yep that's all man🎉❤
"What would you little maniacs like to do first" - this line still cracks me up! John Hughs was/is a legend!
agreed! ummm...take a shower together? Teenage boys stink so this was probably quite the relief for Lisa
@@gen-x-dad Agree. Thank you for sharing these 80s moments.
Man i miss being a kid and all the fun my friends and i had. Every kid should experience growing up in the 80's and what being a kid was really about. Sadly we cant go back and experience it again and there will never be another time like it.
Weird. US Olympics are pushing fencing hard. So hard that even the computer voice is pushing it.
sorry about the AI voice, but my voice really sucks. I have a face made for radio, and a voice made for newsprint.
@@gen-x-dad Why are you leaning toward fencing? Their is a huge DIE push for that sport. When I see anyone that mentions it, I become suspect. Face for radio is most of us, and I am not the one in ten that looks good unclothed, so I avoid all of it. But, STT and TTS is kinda cool stuff.
@@FerrisSOCAL I've always wanted to try it. I think it would be both fun and great exercise. I've never been much of a "joiner" of things so its a lot for me to show up at a club. I tried to get some friends interested but it didnt work out, so i would be going solo.
@@gen-x-dad Well good luck with that fast twitch sport. There should be plenty of coverage between now and the LA Olympics.
Born in 76 child of the 80s if I knew what was on the horizon I would have never left. Yes I would go back.
Valley Girl?
Great Minds think alike 🥂
I am a a high school teacher and feel so sorry for today's teenagers. Everything is so politicized, they cannot joke without worrying someone being too sensitive, and the country is going backwards. During the 80s, everything seemed to be going forward and everyone loved the USA!
but they can do it to the teachers without worry. Its like opposite day now. We have.a teacher in the family and they get called names by the students and can't do a darn thing about it ( especially when they are young and worried about their job.)
Weird Science is a cult classic.
@Gen X Dad, Thank you for making these getting ready to hit the road to date. Steve is doing amazing and is enjoying this as well. Thank you from all of us in the industry .
❤❤One Of. The. Best Bands. Of. All Time 😊😊❤❤
Long live the eighties ❤ Skating Rinks and greatest music ever
Hell yeah, I was fresh out of HS when this came out. I had a porn star mustache myself and the chicks digged it…..hot damn those were the days!
One of my favorites, thank you:)
Gen X Dad, You're awesome! Let's be friends, okay?
This makes my night. Thank you❤
Nothing compares to the 80's. Greatest decade ever!
Listening to our parents talking about the 50’s made me jealous of that awesome time period. I feel the same about the 80’s for us.
AIDS sucked.
What a time to be alive! The 80s were the best!
100% true, I have always hated that "fake it till you make it ", statement it's not just bad advice in the end it limits those who follow it making them think they can do more than they could actually putting in the effort and actually learning. That is a lie ,and unfortunately it's ruined many in this last generation, I'm a little bit younger Gen x man but I was raised like an older boomer and in a lot of ways like one from the silent generation, I've always been very old fashioned and never really agreed with alot of "ways of thinking ", like this, I do appreciate you making this video. Finally someone just stating facts and no opinions I love it 👍
thanks for the comment!
Of course, and thanks again for your video ,well done 👍
I graduated in 1983. Love this
And is still the generation the have above understanding and compassion not poisoning some food or trying to get me off balance
Class of '85 here and proud of it even though my favorite year was '84.
The 80s America... The Decade of the X... Without so many people, contributing to the art, music and lingo, the 80s would have been just another decade but from Animal House to Risky Business, Breakfast Club to St Elmo's Fire, we left parts of our souls in those old theaters. From Michael Jackson to Michael Jordan, we all wanted to be like Mike. Black lives mattered to us, ALREADY... the only thing those kneelers and marchers invented was a new low, culminating in the fine art of whining about shiz we already fixed in the 80s.... There is a lot about the 80s that about 40% of our citizens ignore.... Generation X needs to wake the woke.... they about some uneducated fools... pretending at a civil rights march that already started with I FOUND IT and found its final victory in HANDS ACROSS AMERICA... The 80s is the answer to all political issues of today... but the left doesnt study history so they dont even know how LATE TO THE PARTY they are.... weirdos and freaks dont make good statesmen. And those who pretend they are sometbing other than who they were at birth, are LIARS... PLAIN AND SIMPLE.. The 80s is when all us kids, who started with INTEGRATION, in the 70s, graduated from Higb School. Generation X is the first-generation of interracial friend groups... we are the reason that the world agrees that ALL LIVES MATTER. And no, this concept is not about any one minirity because it only works when its about EVERYBODY... we figured that out in the 70s and 80s... This new breed of citizen seemz to have decided that the 80s never even happened... Only a punk takes credit from their freakin elders...shame, shame... SHAME....
Love💖 this One!!! 80's 'n' 90's ROCK'D in 🍁Canada🍁 Eh! My 😛hockey 🏒🥅Team 💙🧡🤍won 💥5 💥Stanley🏆 Cups! 🛢'ers!!! Best Hockey 🏒Also!

I wanna go back to a time that was real and made sense 80s
I'm so happy I was born in that era❤❤❤❤
Funny thing is that the first 3-5 years of the 90’s felt like the 80’s afterglow. 80’s movies, music, and TV were still being used all the time and became staples in our culture.
Yes. I recently read Chuck Klosterman's excellent book The Nineties, and he book ends the decades more with events, eg) the Nineties ended with the 9/11 attacks. I can't remember what he said about the 80's. But I feel that the 70's aesthetic dominated until around late 83. We started to see the fashion trends we associated with the 80's emerge then. I would say by around 92/93 it was all grunge and flannel and any last vestiges of neon were gone. R.I.P. Fun.
❤ I’m so glad someone is saying this❤ I’ve always told my employees that it’s ok not to know the answer; tell me what you think we should do.
yes exactly. some things can't be learned from a podcast
Forgot to add BIG.. 😢 miss you 80s
The last generation to understand what the world was like without internet and cellphones. Social contact was in person and not through an app and screen.
Class of 88❤❤❤
Grew up in the 80s, graduated H.S. in '89, spent my late teens, early 20s in the military, was a "radical" and "knarly" time to be alive! Will never, ever be, a more wonderfully awesome decade!! Long live the 80s!!
Great song, great video.
I love❤ John Hughes n his movies
Love this song❤n group
Who is the guy at 0:11?
James Spader!
Thank you for including a clip from Dr. Detroit - a true lost movie gem from the 80s. 😎
Now days kids and young adults are so angry in this woke culture. Back then, there was less hate and more fun.
Josh is a little creeper! 🤣🤣
The 80s was the best
Damn I miss the 80’s
Love it! I wrote and produced that record.
That's awesome. I grew up on Bro Jake, Tom & Larry, 92.1 & 97. Thanks for dropping in.
