Hi Alxe, thanks for sharing your thoughts. We're sorry you're so upset. Take solace in knowing Stubby had lost his tail prior to joining our family. The previous owners stated another dragon may have injured it while both were babies. As for the scenario depicted above, based upon the reading and research we'd done prior-both through books and in speaking with fellow dragon owners-we decided it would be possible and humane to give Stubby a shot with the outside world, figuring it would give him an opportunity to experience a more natural environment. He seemed to enjoy much of his experience outside prior to his scurrying event. In hindsight, we concluded there were a number of possible factors resulting in his suddenly frightened response: an unusual sound, the possible presence of a predator, or even a scenario where he misinterpreted us as predators after we stood up to walk him back toward the house (a fault of our own). We were very aware of what his color change and puffed beard represented; it's one of the bearded dragon's most distinguishable characteristics. We understood he was frightened, so our first step was to secure and comfort him so we could take him back into a safer environment. The next step was to take the proper steps to ensure he could feel as safe as possible from that day forward.

Oh ok just a really big animal lover and have a beardie myself just see loads of things online. Think people now are seeing people being cruel to animals and pay no notice of me keep doing what your doing if it wasn't for people like you there would be a lot more animals in terrible conditions. As I said I'm just a big animal lover and wouldn't like to see any hurt. Sorry if I came across as nasty

No worries, my friend. We originally uploaded this video only because it was such an unusual and rare circumstance. Unfortunately, we realized it can be quite easy for viewers to pass broad judgments because they only see 1:24 of our entire lives with Stubby and this happened to be one of our unluckiest moments with him. To be honest, there's a lot of cruel folks out there so it can be tough not to jump to conclusions. We appreciate your open mindedness.

+Alisha Bennett We ditched that leash pretty quickly after this video. As you said, we weren't convinced it was a comfortable or safe option, particularly after the events shown above. As for his tail, he was apparently nipped by another dragon before he joined our crew. The uniqueness of his tail is a large part of what led us to bringing Stubby home in the first place.
