I dont think its not fair for the spouse not to get paid! I have a caregiver that is scheduled to work for 37 hours and she calls off half the time! I still work a f/t job but i get stressed knowing that my spouse is left alone alot because his caregiver calls off! I dont have a friend or relative that can care forhim so I rely on an agency.🫤 I guess the only step i could take is trying to find some work at home job.

Thank you for this video… I recently lost my grandmother. I was her primary caregiver for the last 10 years…. She added me to be a beneficiary, also to leave the property to my nephew by putting the property in a trust….. the problem is her two sons (my father and uncle) before she died they assured me multiple times that we had nothing to worry about. Now she has passed, they are running interference. I don’t want to sue but I don’t know exactly what to do!

My mom just has her regular insurance through Humana and then she has Medicare, can I still get paid to take care of her? She lives only on SS, which isn’t much for her at all, and she’s struggling to pay her bills, she lives in her own home. I drive over after work everyday to help care for her.

Look into seeing if she qualifies for Medicaid. My dad only has his monthly SS payment too and he recently qualified. Also, look into if your county has an office for the Aging or some similar dept. I didn't know that was a thing until a coworker told me. I was able to call that office up (after a quick Google search) and they helped me get my dad into an adult day center a few days/week and fill out the application for Medicaid, which has led to applying for long term managed care in the home. There ARE resources out there but we don't know how to access them unfortunately. I wish you luck!

So we applied for the 24 7 pension and Aid and attendance benefits about 9 months ago a very long process for my elderly almost 99 yr old mother. My later father was a WWII veteran honorable discharge and passed away almost 20 years ago. My mother owns her home, has very limited income a couple of small credit unions and is paying off her funeral expenses. I received her letter of eligibility and disappointed to see that she only qualifies for 47 .00 per month which is nothing! My mother is 98 yrs of age. She is needing help 24 7 in her home until we are able to secure a full time nursing facility . How can we get the authorization for aid and attendance in her home as she is needing this asp and cannot afford this with her current social security and now VA pension of 47.00 per month. Please advise.

I Have an 81 year old father with Parkinson's and other medical complications. ATM I'm his live in aide and on the lease. He visits his elderly gf frequently that's used him for decades and HELPS HER at a detriment to himself. I work HAVE to work my own job and it's been a huge tug o war juggling act. When my dads home he comes apart at the seams and it's getting much worse. I can't stop him from visiting his gf and am regularly giving him rides. My poor dad does way too much for her and she's always kept me away from their time together. Whenever I bring up compensation he acts as if we don't qualify. It's truly like something out of a twilight zone episode. My brother passed 5 years ago and isn't around to help share responsibility of our father. What I do for my dad is cook when we don't order, clean, help him use devices, joined store runs, med/grocery deliveries and much more. He pays gas for rides and sometimes I say not to worry about it. Whenever he's at his gf's though he's mostly on his own and I think he's ultimately trying to escape the aging process. It's the many little things he needs help with that is a chore in itself. Very forgetful when he can't use his phone he gets "pissed off" and it's always the devices fault. In the same fashion he's very frequently making small errors and getting clustered over every little tiny blender. Just today I brought up the idea of compensation again because we've been talking about it. He got all defensive and turned it into an argument. His keyword and argument seems to be qualify. But at this point I think we more than qualify and he just doesn't want to give up a sliver of control. I'm wondering if this situation has happened to anyone else? I'm sleeping on a couch feel extremely spread thin when I can be compensated and help both my dad and his girlfriend two birds with one stone. Which I'm already doing but all I want is to help them in a bigger way because they are both battling the aging process. Sometimes it feels like I'm being brought to a breaking point. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you

My mother took care of both her bedridden parents at the same time. She had to quit her job to do it. It nearly killed her. She should have been paid. If it was a paying job she might have valued her own efforts more. My grandparents had two other daughters, eight adults grandchildren, and a handful of older great grands living close by. All of which my grandparents had doted on and helped financially. Only the oldest grand came to help. It was rare and she insisted on getting paid. When my grandparents died, a week apart, my aunts broke in, looting my mother’s house, taking family heirlooms for themselves. They couldn’t lift a finger to help but they could steal from the dead. This greed made me so ashamed. I lost all respect for the women who had previously had so much influence on my life. I saw the same thing happen in my father’s family. I think my husband and his sister handled their responsibilities in a way that made their family proud. When my MIL had an accident that made her disabled and needing home healthcare. My SIL retired early and moved in with her mother to supervise the service providers. Even though they paid for full time caregivers, the companionship kept MIL from feeling so isolated in her condition. My husband stabilized MIL business and personal finances so there was plenty of money for a new vehicle that accommodated MIL disability, allowing them to travel, and enjoy entertainment the few years MIL had left. He even agreed to giving his sister a significantly more valuable portion of inheritance for her sacrifice. She earned it. I wished all families would work as well together as they did for their mother.

It may depend on the state as Medicaid is different in different states. Here in Washington state a parent can be paid for taking care of an adult disabled child under certain circumstances. For example, if the parent works and the state is already paying for an outside caregiver to care for the adult disabled child while the parent works, the parent can still receive a small amount for caring for their child after work hours and on their days off but only for a certain number of hours per month. I hope I wrote that in an understandable way, sorry if I didn't. I only know about the laws in Washington State because that's where I live and I was a caregiver for 18 years.
